I know it's never going to happen, but all I want is a screen with something similar to the 27" 5k panels out of the old retina 2014 iMacs for a reasonable price.

It doesn't need any clever features, integrated Apple Chips, webcam or high refresh rates... Just a good screen at a good price for normal people.

It would be the ideal add-on for any Mac Mini, or MacBook for 99% of people and Apple would sell a lot of them.

Breaking rumours: Apple is working on new iPhones! We now know that they will be faster and better then the previous models and they will probably be presented next fall due to latest rumours!

Probably most people here want a "pro monitor" for web browsing (no offence - that's just reality of things), so here's a wishlist from an actual "pro" for a pro monitor to be as versatile and appealing as possible for a broad range of people working with visual stuff be it motion, design etc. For reference, I animate (traditionally), illustrate, design and do motion design. So yeah, I think this list will be pretty versatile.

- 30" in 16:9 format as this is the most versatile for us to work with. No ultra wide ********. Bigger than 30" apart from some film industry applications isnt really that useful so chill with that and dont go crazy. Bigger's not always better
- PPI > screen real estate. 300 PPI please. I want to see stuff 1:1 without scaling as it would be printed in current print standards.
- built-in calibration Eizo style.
- dont claim its a reference monitor and dont even try to do it - it's not going to happen below 25-30k anyway
- 120 Hz. We don't need anything more than that for work. But we do work 10h+ hours so a smooth experience is appreciated
- as wide color gamut as possible
- monitor incorporating technology that prevents burn in if it's OLED (preferably QD OLED or Mini LED with a ******** of dimming zones - in the perfect world Micro LED but we are not there yet). There's a ton of UI stuff that will always be in the same space as we all configure our workspaces according to our workflow
- for some people HDR capability may start to be important for content creation, especially if youtube incorporates this in its platform, but for now I'm on the fence about it (personally I don't need it but I'm trying to walk in other's shoes with this list as well)
- monitor available in both matte and glossy screen finish.
- CONNECTIVITY. A lot of it. And no, this doesnt mean 5 USB-C instead of 3. Include different, industry standard ports even if its not a reference monitor.
- No, we don't need a camera in a pro display.
- No, we don't need a microwave, a built in butler service or a disco ball
- VESA mount compatible, DETATCHABLE from the stand, with a stand that actually allows full control of the monitor including rotating it 90 deg.
I think this would be enough for a near perfect product :). That would be quite an expensive monitor - they could include a gradation of these features in 2 or 3 models so that pros from different fields and revenues are able to justify this expense. Bitching about pro item prices, if they are truly pro not just by name, makes little sense to me. It's a tool that is supposed to earn you money. It's NOT a consumer product and its not supposed to be used for web browsing. You don't pick an axe to kill a fly - there are better tools for that.

No it wont. Even the iPad has blooming issues and thats only 12.9". 32" even if the zones are doubled its still not enough to eliminate blooming. Once MicroLED will be available in affordable and big sizes that is when we will truly get a spectacular screen.

The true next-gen improvement for Pro Display XDR is more dimmable zones. I'm guessing they'll shoot for 5,000, up from the iPad Pro's 2,500, and up from the current-gen Pro Display XDR's 576. With enough dimmable zones, bloom will be eliminated from mini-LED screens and they'll compete far better against OLEDs with their superior brightness and HDR capabilities.

My studio display camera works perfectly.
No, it doesn't. The quality of the camera used in the studio display was written about to a pretty insane degree when the monitors were first released. There were firmware updates, but they did nothing to help with the quality.

Yours doesn't magically have a better camera than the others.

As I noted in the 2023 iMac thread, "where the puck is going" is 8K HDR content creation and I expect Apple to be on the leading wave with hardware to meet those needs.

An 8K Pro XDR display for 2023 (using the current 6K XDR Pro pixel pitch of 128/ppi) yields a 40–42" panel.

I would expect, since Apple has made its ROI with the 6K panel and with scale of production factored, that that panel will be repurposed and find its way into a 2023 32" iMac "Pro"/"Studio"...toss in M3 and price it out-the-door starting at ~$2.5k for a base model.

The new 8K Pro XDR weighing in at approximately current 6K display pricing.

Fast forward 4-years, 46" 10K XDR Pro and repurposed 42" 8K panel iMac at near the same price points (inflation adjusted).

The all-in-one is here to stay, it's part of the Apple/Macintosh DNA and is the anti-theft and ease-of-use product-of-choice for institutional and educational facilities and for "run it lean-and-mean", "one power cord to rule them all" simplicity-loving creatives...such as, well, moi! LOL

With my MacBook Pro I am using 2 LG UltraFine 24" 4K displays, which cost $700 each. I would pay a little more for Apple's quality and attention to detail, but where the hell is their competitive offering here? I need at least one of them to be able to rotate as needed, so where does that leave me? With what I have, basically. Since the $700 LG displays came with their own stands (if you want to use them) but also with VESA mounts so they could put onto more flexible stands.

It's an Ultra Wide lens that has been cropped. It doesn't get much worse than that.

Why would a ProMotion/MiniLED Studio Display be released *so soon* after the previous one?

It has not even been a year. Apple rarely updates non-Phone/iPad/Mac devices on an annual basis. Look at how long it took them to upgrade the Airpod Pros/Max.

Previous track record updating displays is not very hopeful.

While I would love a 5k ProMotion/MiniLED priced like the current ASD I think it is a pipedream right now. Where can you even get a 4k miniled with 120fps refresh?

Another thing: 5k 120fps will take a lot of bandwidth. Most USBC/Thundsrbolt standards could barely support it, esp with multiple monitors.

My prediction: this wont come until macs are all updated with new versions of Thunderbolt/USBC
Who said it was an update? Apple doesn't do updates anymore. They add 1 or 2 features, and raise the price substantially, and call it a new product.

Hopefully they'll fix the abysmal camera on the Studio display, and cut the price by at least $100 while they're at it.
Studio display with a camera that doesn't suck please.
Now that continuity camera is a thing, I would almost rather the Studio Display lose the camera altogether for a price reduction. However, price reduction wouldn't be a guarantee with such an action anyway, and this is likely an unpopular opinion. I can understand those who want the whole kit.

On one hand I really wish I could get a set of mini led displays to replace my current two studio displays. But the reasonable part of me recognizes that my work (drafting, photoshop) doesn’t really benefit all that much. On the other I have noticed my eyes strain while using my studio displays and none of my other devices. Unless I could get okay value for my studio displays I’m probably stuck with them for years (and they are very nice).

I am sure others in the thread have or are going to make similar statements/requests.
My unfounded theory? The new displays will have NO cameras, but instead have a Magsafe mount/charger for Continuity Camera use. People complaining about wanting to use their phone will be able to use an updated "Handoff" feature to access their phone features from their desktop while using Continuity Camera.

The one in my ASD works fine. How long have you owned your ASD? And how does it suck, from your first hand observation?
I bought it when it was first announced. The problems I have with my camera is consistent with the reports online. Lack of clarity, grainy, not at all what I'd expect from any Apple device, let alone one that cost as much as this did.

The poor quality of the camera is well documented, and this is not a situation where some cameras are suffering from a fault that can be repaired or replaced. Your camera is not any better or worse than mine.

Again... Mine works fine.
