Agreed.yesterday while using my iPhone I felt that the software design just 'doesn't' belong to planet earth... the colors, the 2D look, no shadow, no depth etc, looks alienist to me at this point to be honest.
i think it's time to move away from flat, no depth and no details design and return to a much more earth like materials UI, not skeuomorphism which mimics a real world object, a new design language where the software look like being made from glass, metal, stone etc but in a new and more modern design, a more detailed oriented crafted UI (a crafted aluminum volume knob instead of round white circle without any details for example)
IMO that flat design trend which came from the fashion industry doesn't really have a soul.
That's not an OS-level issue. It would be nice to have multiuser capability on iOS and iPadOS.
For now I have to use several browsers to maintain several accounts from the same websites.
Would be nice just to use a gesture and switch to another user account. It’s certainly not a storage or memory problem or performance.
I don't think neomorphic design is the direction apple need to take, basically it is flat design + shadows & depth, nothing more.Agreed.
I think we will see a neomorphic redesign for iOS etc but I wonder if it’ll be after we see the AR/VR stuff.
Presumably the OS for that will use that 3D-ish look and Apple will want to splash / focus the new product category with that.
Sorry, not paying $40/year for a weather app. I made the mistake once of supporting Weather Line, paid for the lifetime version only for them to sell the app to some unknown developer shortly thereafter.Buy a good app. Jeez. You can crash a thousand dollars on an iPad but not a few dollars on a good calculator or a subscription to a good weather app?
To be honest I think that describes Silicon Valley as of late. 😉yesterday while using my iPhone I felt that the software design just 'doesn't' belong to planet earth... the colors, the 2D look, no shadow, no depth etc, looks alienist to me at this point to be honest.

Be careful what you wish for. "Improving" generally doesn't mean the same to Apple as it does to you and me. I foresee tons of new bugs and spending hours trying to figure out where to tap/slide/spin or whatever else crazy 💩 the UI team comes up with.Improving any Apple apps is welcome. Almost all of them need it
While factually true, using the search feature as a calculator is a horrendous experience for anything more than a simple equation. And I did support Weather Line, only to be burned by them shortly thereafter. I'm done paying for a weather app. Then, hear me out, be willing to pay a developer a nominal fee both for their work as well as to offset costs in obtaining weather data from an API and serving that back out to customers. That’s not free, and with Apple making it increasingly difficult for the ad industry to make money on iOS (for better or worse), the breakeven solution for existing “free” apps is more ads.
If you use your iPad with a keyboard, you can use the built-in search feature as a calculator without even leaving the app you’re in. ⌘Space and type in your calculation and it’s done. If you don’t have a keyboard, the search feature can also be accessed by pulling down the lock screen and then swiping down.
I've been a PCALC user for probably at least a decade. Just checked out Tydlig, 😲! Thank you for the suggestion. The stock calculator sucks, why bother? Tydlig is the best calculator I have used on my iPhone and iPad for many years now.
I hope iOS 16 does more with LIDAR. Use it to scan objects or rooms…make a 3D model…perhaps use this model in CAD or Photoshop or Pages. The longer and closer a person scans an object the more refined and detailed the model
PCALC is awesome, Carrot costs $40/year. No thanks.Carrot weather and Pcalc are solid, non-ad supported weather and calculator apps that work well on the iPad.
I forgot it's even there. They should just remove LiDAR it’s a waste of space in an iPhone
Automation's is pretty much useless for me. Any app I want to actually spend the time to write an automation for, I can't. And anyone you can does what I want it to do.I just want to see effort made with Shortcuts, Automations, HomeKit & Matter, and Focus Modes. I expect that I'll be disappointed.
couldn't agree more.To be honest I think that describes Silicon Valley as of late. 😉
I believe you can enable this in Settings - notifications. How about let's just make accessing the notification center gesture consistent regardless of what screen you are on.
I should be able to swipe down from the top edge of my screen ANYWHERE and open notifications.
Currently this only works on the home screen and in apps on my iPhone - but not the lock screen, I have to swipe up from the middle of the screen on JUST the lock screen.
And on my iPad swiping down from the top edge only opens notifications on the home screen. NOT on the lock screen OR in apps.
What is wrong with Apple UX designers? I thought swipe down from the top to view notifications was a universally agreed upon mobile UI convention at this point?!
Apple needs to squash A LOT of bugs before even thinking about a redesign.iOS stopped being iconic since iOS 7. That redesign was quite awful. It has been polished a bit over the years but it’s still quite bad. A complete reset is needed.
Per usual it’s to keep people reading. He will dump all the goods the week or day before WWDC.Gotta get the clicks and $$
You know you can ask Apple for a refund in cases like this, right? You paid for functionality that went away. (ETA: Not sure if you’d receive one this late in the game, but if you had done so soon after that announcement I’d say it’s very likely you’d have received a full refund.)Sorry, not paying $40/year for a weather app. I made the mistake once of supporting Weather Line, paid for the lifetime version only for them to sell the app to some unknown developer shortly thereafter.
While I did so on macOS, I used the Spotlight calculator to do entire math-heavy homework assignments in a pinch as a STEM major in college. It's not "horrendous" at all — though obviously a real scientific calculator was preferable, the best calculator is the one you have with you. I'd argue it's quite a bit better than the regular Calculator app for anything past simple arithmetic because you can see what you’ve entered and correct any errors in-place instead of having to start over. While factually true, using the search feature as a calculator is a horrendous experience for anything more than a simple equation. A widget that you can tap on and interact with without opening the respective app, for example a calculator widget.Maybe (definitely) I am dumb. What is an interactive widget?
Quit using free garbage. You get what you pay for. If a calculator app is that important to you, buy a good one.Actually no there aren’t. At least what’s free is becoming garbage and riddled with ads like weather channel app on iPad. Don’t even defend apple on that one. Everyone knows it’s getting pathetic at this point the damn iPad doesn’t have a built in calculator either.
So you don’t think its at all weird that the watch, phone and mac have a calculator app but the iPad doesn’t? GOT IT!Quit using free garbage. You get what you pay for. If a calculator app is that important to you, buy a good one.
I think you are right today but to keep that shared look across all Apple platforms, there should be at least one more redesign to include AR/VR in those platforms.idk why people want a redesign so badly. iOS is iconic and looks great as it is and the general look is shared across all Apple platforms. A new design would only bring a ton of bugs, inconstancy with many third-party apps and complains from many people.
But hey, at least it would feel new for a month.
I also need a new Home Screen. Don’t ask me for specifics, just “new” 😉
Weather Line did what they did and Apple let them. You're right, I should have at least attempted to get a refund, however this shows that most subscription based apps are flawed. Not saying there isn't a use for them for things like entertainment services, but not for something as basic as this. In the end I lost money supporting the developer and purchasing the app outright. I will avoid any future apps from this developer and/or using this revenue model. You know you can ask Apple for a refund in cases like this, right? You paid for functionality that went away. Because of Apple's App Store policies, the developer can't offer it themselves upon request, let alone just hand out refunds, but usually it’s the case when there's a buyout like that...current subscribers either often get the chance to finish out their subscription or receive either a prorated or full refund as appropriate.

Yeah…but I also believe he is “pressured” to deliver Apple news, even when there isn’t any. MR is guilty of the same.I feel like he’s just talking without any credible information. I really don’t understand what he’s saying. Sorry, but it’s so vague![]()
Carrot has both free and "pro" levels. The Pro just allows more customizations....
PCALC is awesome, Carrot costs $40/year. No thanks.
