idk why people want a redesign so badly. iOS is iconic and looks great as it is and the general look is shared across all Apple platforms. A new design would only bring a ton of bugs, inconstancy with many third-party apps and complains from many people.

But hey, at least it would feel new for a month.
I want to get rid of flat. It's ugly, it's been ugly since iOS 7, and it will keep being ugly until it's finally ditched forever as one of the worst mistakes in graphic design history.

How about let's just make accessing the notification center gesture consistent regardless of what screen you are on.

I should be able to swipe down from the top edge of my screen ANYWHERE and open notifications.

Currently this only works on the home screen and in apps on my iPhone - but not the lock screen, I have to swipe up from the middle of the screen on JUST the lock screen.

And on my iPad swiping down from the top edge only opens notifications on the home screen. NOT on the lock screen OR in apps.

What is wrong with Apple UX designers? I thought swipe down from the top to view notifications was a universally agreed upon mobile UI convention at this point?!

I must be a weirdo, but I kinda liked the skeuomorphism.
The idea of photo realistic surfaces is what really pushed UI forward in the 2000's. The drab 3D gray UI of Windows 95 and classic OS, which ironically was first introduced on NeXTStep was getting really dated. The only advance I saw with it was drop shadow under the mouse pointer in Windows 2000 and a lighter more appealing gray. Mac OS 10.0 was such a game changer with the real looking icons. As Steve Jobs noted at the time, we have all this graphical power that's not being utilized most of the time. But I think by the end of the decade it had also run its course and was taking on a meaningless direction. Icons are meant to help a user understand the purpose of the application. Creating a leather-bound interface in calendar was just looking for trouble.

But I think the flat look itself is running its course and maybe more vibrant design needs to return for iconography in iOS and macOS.

They need to fix the focus mode/time sensitive/do not disturb situation. It's too complicated and they need to bring back permanent do not disturb while screen is off.

It is just your thinking.

For example, the Weather app could be left on to play nature background noises.
I actually remember some weather app that did just what your discussing from many years back when they used widgets in the MacOS X dashboard for the GUI (10.4 Tiger). They had associated audio sounds for what was occurring weather wise. But I also remember how that example can lead to the GUI more oriented to entertaining then using the OS's GUI to be able to do the most things possible. Thats kinda where we are with iOS 15.5, next up iOS 16. This iPhone/IPad OS has to become more useful with working more then one thing at a time. That Samsung Split screen example on a recent post with the video on top and macrumors forum post below is a good example of what lacking with iOS/IpadOS split screen. Apple's implementation is too simplistic in portrait mode with only vertical side by side.

Be able to swipe away the left tab bar in safari instead of pressing the button again to close.

I looked at your example of the split screen with the video on-top. My 12.9 iPad Pro generation 4 does that kind of split screen. I often use split screen on my iPad and two things are going-on at the same time. I can also make a split screen with 2 apps in the multitasking view (drag-and-drop one app on another makes the pair).

Perhaps because the look of the OS is STALE? The only nice-looking parts are mail and messages.

The mini 6 in portrait mode is limited to side by in one orientation (portrait vs landscaped), I mistakenly described it as horizontal, its vertical panes with my model. Interesting the iPad Pro can do more.

We could see
  1. Apple Pencil for iOS.
  2. Notification synchronization across all devices.
  3. A password manager.
  4. Dictionary as a new App.
  5. Split screen for iPhone Pro Max.
  6. Privacy Relay evolving towards a full-fledged VPN.
  7. Apple Search as an option.
  8. New API to allow the ability to have FaceTime chats with Android devices.
  9. New API to allow the ability to send messages from Messages to Android devices.
  10. Merging of FaceTime with Messages like most other messaging apps.
  11. Disappearing messages and the ability to delete messages for all.
  12. Multilingual Personal Requests for Siri in a multilingual environment.
  13. HomeKit improvements, foundation work for Matter.
  14. Finder-esque file manager in iPadOS.
  15. Some limited customization of the status bar.
  16. A new UI language starting with iOS 16 then gradually trickling down to macOS.
We will not see any of these.

I would like to have two audio/video sources playing simultaneously; on my Mac I can have a muted video playing while I listen to music. Im also tired of my music being paused if I switch to a social media app that has videos even if I have the videos set to muted.

Your reminding me how a lot loved smaller MacOS based laptops over iPhones/iPads. Just think what a redesigned 11" 2015 MBA utilizing a M1 and a retina display could be capable of doing compared to a 11" M1 iPad Pro.

Still not a touchscreen tablet so it's just lighter MBA. Would be a fantastic travel Mac tho.

yesterday while using my iPhone I felt that the software design just 'doesn't' belong to planet earth... the colors, the 3D look, no shadow, no depth etc, looks alienist to me at this point to be honest.

i think it's time to move away from flat, no depth and no details design and return to a much more earth like materials UI, not skeuomorphism which mimics a real world object, a new design language where the software look like being made from glass, metal, stone etc but in a new and more modern design, a more detailed oriented crafted UI (a crafted aluminum volume knob instead of round white circle without any details for example)

IMO that flat design trend which came from the fashion industry doesn't really have a soul.

I think I found the perfect design for you:

But but but… the icons are the same!!!
???
Garbage update, Steve Jobs would never, Tim Crook bad, I need my new icons (that i’ll get bored of after 15 minutes of playing with) and I need them now!!!
/s
You did all that and it seems snappier

I actually really liked the skeuomorphic design of iOS and one of its design benefits is that it makes it easy to see what to interact with. When iOS 7 came out, there wasn’t a lot of indication as to what you should tap, long-press, etc.

I would like the little slide away multitasking arrow on iPad.. to disappear/ to be able to dismiss it - too many times I want that arrow gone and I have to go into multitasking and manually close the app.
