I actually think it will be quite a bit heavier than an AppleTV. I don’t expect those problems for most.
Best case use a cable splitter (so single cable to outlet and video hidden behind monitor) with a Mac mini mount on the back of your not apple monitor for an upgradable imac

The Apple TV sized ones work great with just adhesive- my atv is mounted this way

If it's AppleTV (re)sized, conceptually it also going to be lighter. A stiff HDMI cable can make it hard to keep an AppleTV facing straight ahead. What will keep this cute/tiny "Micro" Mac from being yanked off the desk or readily twisted by accessory shifts, etc. For example, I plug in an optical drive and then move it a bit for better access. Does that risk rotating/moving this Micro? If I barely move the HDMI cable in the AppleTV, it can significantly rotate.

A reason for Apple to make an accessory is to put some weight back on this desktop to hold it in place. How (modern) Apple-like to break out some heft to scratch the "need a redesign" crowd's itch, keep the price the same or raise it a bit and then make a towards-essential accessory at an added cost to be able to have one feature that comes with any of the existing design: it's heavy enough to hold its spot on a desk. Geniu$ by APPL. 💰💰💰

Else, just think this trough: how are you buyers going to keep this Micro from moving at relatively light touches/shifts of cables/shifts of power plug, etc?
MagSafe?

Why is everybody buying into that Russian “leak”? With something as simple as:
1) Apple has never launched a new generation MacBook with the same wallpaper and packaging. Ever. That would be a terrible marketing mistake—one Apple would never make. Even cheap Windows PC brands change the packaging from one generation/year to the next.

2) The supposed packaging wallpaper isn’t even the same as the default wallpaper when the “leaker” turns on the M4 MacBook “for the first time.” It’s the default Sonoma wallpaper, which only shows on restored Macs.

3) With the realese of the M4 iPad Pro was extremely easy to fake the “geekbench” results.

OMG… So, either Apple blogs and reviewers are extremely easy to fool, or a “leak” like this just generates a lot of monetizing views even if it’s fake.

I don‘t think that’s Apple’s style. They usually leave that stuff to third parties. It sort of implies the Mac mini doesn’t come fully equipped and one needs to buy extras just to make it work. I would like one of these to go with a separate Studio Display I have not being used.
I have had too many docks have random disconnects. I even had the multiple expensive OWC docks and they all had major issues when my system went to sleep. It would be nice if they had an official one that worked better.

I don't think "pity." As an ULTRA Studio owner, I'd NEVER buy another if the schedule of releases doesn't flip. Saving Ultra for last of a generation means that only 4-5 months later at most, the next gen MAX generally "catches up" and/or exceeds in some measures. For all of the money Apple demands for ULTRA, it should hold "king of the (power) hill" for longer than that.

So I buy an occasional rumor that Apple will FLIP the seemingly established order by finishing M4 with MBair in the spring and then rolling out M5 ULTRA & MAX around WWDC, essentially putting ULTRA in "most powerful Mac" position until the next generation is announced at least a year later.

In other words, the apparent "pattern" we think we know is:
  1. Base, then
  2. PRO & MAX then
  3. Ultra
This rumor flips that:
  1. ULTRA & MAX
  2. PRO & MAX (if MAX didn't also hit with Ultra)
  3. Base
Why would Apple consider this: presumably the super-high pricing for ULTRA makes them the most profitable Macs to sell on a per-unit-sold basis. The crowd that burns to own the "latest" and "most powerful" would have to be more tempted to pay up for them instead of doing what many do now... just wait less than half a year and the next generation MAX will be as good if not better for much less cost (and thus less profit for Apple).

Apple likes money. Customers like "most powerful." Flip the order and harvest both without those customers who opt for ULTRA feeling a bit burned when less than half a year later, a better chip is out in the next generation at much less cost.

"But, but, but... MBs are the bread & butter." Yes they are and this concept wouldn't change their Fall release schedule at all... so Apple still gets all they can get from laptop buyers on the same schedule: MBpros in the Fall and MBair the following Spring.

Who gets to take the psychological hit? The Base chip Mac buyers who wait for those... only to see them followed by the release of the next generation. Why would Apple want that? Presumably base unit buyers are least profit-per-unit sold... and the contrast of comparing "new base" vs. "next generation ULTRA" specs might move more base buyers to at least buy PRO or MAX to not feel like they are buying late for much less power than what is about to hit. If so, that's more profit per unit sold to Apple. Again, Apple likes profit.

At least in my case, the ONLY way I would buy another ULTRA is if it can be "king of the power hill" for longer than less than one half year. So when it comes time to replace this one, I would only consider MAX which typically gets to hold that crown for much longer than half a year or even a full year since ULTRAs don't roll out annually.

What would stop Apple from flipping the schedule? Seems like there's nothing but just choosing to do it. This change likely makes more profit per Mac sold without impacting the high volume units because they hold to their existing schedule. So this seems to mostly be grounded in a simple corporate choice to pursue maximum profit per Mac sold.

"Think different"
As someone with three Ultra Mac Studios, I agree. However, I need a desktop since I need the IO. But there is no M3 Max desktop available.

neither of those machines will support said configuration... such a monitor doesn't exist and won't until thunderbolt 5 comes into play...
Tell that to the Dell U4025QW that has been on the market since February. And LG is releasing OLED panels that also fit the bill, in this quarter, meaning actual monitors will most likely hit the market at CES in January.

And whether or not the M4 Macs will support it comes down to the display controller. HDMI 2.1 will support them just fine, which the M3 MBPs already have - And they already support the Dell display.

I have never been more excited for an Apple product refresh. My M2 Pro Mini is still an amazing machine that I use 8 hours a day and I can’t wait for the upgrade!
What is there to be excited about going from m2 pro mini to m4 pro mini?

i am on a 2012 intel imac, now that’s excitement going to a m4 pro mini!

It takes 100`s of millions of $$$ to re-tool and design every aspect of Apple products and people on here still insult apple engineers and product designers every time something new comes out. I just don't get it.
3 trillion dollars every year.. 1000`s of personal to get just one year of products out the door.
Think about it people. Stop the madness.

I bought my Mac mini Pro 1tb a year ago, no matter what the M4 has to offer unless my Mini 1TB mini leaves Earths orbit for some unknown reason it is staying on my desk for years to come, I don't update computers yearly for the sake of it, its just pointless as I wont really notice the difference and I don't need it for video work, updating for the sake of having a M4 because its new is a huge waste of money as I see it. If I needed a computer now yes I would buy one but mine is fast enough for me, no matter what the benchmarks say.

I would like to see the new form factor happen. I really like the Mac Studio, and a similar height for a Mac mini would benefit cooling as long as they don't chop the logic board like in the Cube.

Just a few hours after claiming that the first Macs with M4 chips are launching "very soon," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has followed up with a slightly more specific timeframe. In his latest social media post today, he said an "M4 Mac launch" is on Apple's schedule for next week, but he did not mention a specific day.

A concept of a smaller Mac mini with front-facing USB-C ports

"Busy week for Apple next week: Apple Intelligence on Monday, then M4 Mac launch, then earnings results on Thursday," he posted.

In another social media post today, Gurman said that Apple is inviting journalists and content creators to a hands-on experience in Los Angeles next Wednesday, and he believes this means the new Macs would need to be announced before then.

In another twist, leaker Sonny Dickson today claimed that he heard the new Mac mini with five USB-C ports might launch this week instead. Dickson has revealed some accurate details about upcoming Apple products through leaked cases and dummy models, but some of his hardware-related claims have proven to be inaccurate.

In any case, it looks like Apple will announce the first Macs with M4 chips in around a week from now at the latest, based on these latest claims. It's still not entirely clear if the announcements will be part of an online event, like the "Scary Fast" event on October 30 last year, or if the products will be announced in press releases on the Apple Newsroom website only. There is still time left in October for Apple to invite the media to watch an online event, but the window for that is gradually coming to a close. We'll see!

Here is everything that Apple is likely to announce in the coming days:

The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M4 chip allegedly leaked in a few unboxing videos earlier this month, and it was shown to be a November 2024 model in those videos. If the videos are legitimate, that means the first Macs with M4 chips might not arrive to customers until next month, even if they are announced within the next week or so.

I am hoping that they bring back the TouchBar!

We have to ask ourselves, will a current M3
Mac do the same thing as a M4 Mac or provide a similar experience to Apple Intelligence? The answer is yes, but only 20% slower. The question for everyone, are the M4’s with the upgrade?
Over M3? I wouldn’t think so, but from intel or M1? Yeah that sounds like a good upgrade.

you are arguing against yourself lol, 1000s of personal billions in r&d to get one product out the door…and that’s all they could came up with - minimal incremental changes. It just shows how badly mismanaged apples r&d and innovation road map is under an operations ceo. Their production is second to none and highly efficient as that’s what Tim does.

However after Steve died and they used up whatever was left in the queue, apple has been spinning Ever since. All the existing products are nothing but minor increments, their new products under Tim are unmitigated disasters - the car was cancelled after wasting hundreds of billions, the Vision Pro was a total failure, zero plans for Siri/AI even with a 10+ year buffer to improve until chatgpt comes along, now they realized how badly behind apple and ended up having to outsource to openai for major integrations - from a company whose #1 priority was privacy….to use openai who is known to freely leverage user dat….

And then you got the Chinese...who is innovating like crazy with their phones, and it’s evident by the market share in China. Only reason it has not happened in US is the outright ban to prevent those phones to compete against apple.

I’m with you. I saw BS when I watched it. So easy to fake the number being M4 over M3 on the box. Apple would not be using the same wallpaper like you said.

I don't really get the excitement over these M4 Macs. They will be a barely noticeable spec bump and only noticable for those people who do heavy video work. For everyone else this is just another year of another spec bump until Apple decides to redesign the MacBook Pro. It will be same colors, same battery life, same screen, everything else with a minor bump in speed.

I get the Mac Mini and some excitement around that, but everythign else is just a big shoulder shrug.
Yeah, we've gotten to the point where general stuff like web browsing, emails, and Google Docs won't see drastic improvements in speed. Maybe some improvements to photos/videos.

Like others, I'd like to see a redesign of iMac. Basic redesign I'd like to see lose the chin, maybe a few millimeters thicker to accommodate ethernet and memory card slot again. A more drastic redesign I'd like is bring back something like the iMac G4 with a swivel screen, and make it touch/Apple Pencil sensitive. Make it useful for graphic artists. I know macOS is designed for keyboard/mouse input, but some things could be big enough for touch. Also put some kind of SSD slots to augment the built-in storage. But I don't see Apple doing that as people would skimp on Apple storage and get a cheaper, yet bigger SSD elsewhere. If anything, I can see Apple doing the proprietary connector thing and make it expensive as heck, which I'd hate.

The closer we get to the weekend, the closer that there will be no event. Rather a press release and call it a day.

Well, imagine how many of us 'don't get it' if and when they appear to pay such exorbitant costs to achieve something fairly petty (further miniaturizing what was already a very small desktop computer) instead of something very useful (e.g.: add an internal SSD bay for DIY storage upgrades with much cheaper 3rd party storage).

It's a rehash of the Intel-era iMac development over time years ago; boast about making it slightly thinner...when it was a desktop system not carried around...and in use viewed from the front where thinness isn't even evident.
