I’m really eager to see the new Mac mini; however, I’m considering waiting a bit longer until the RAM used on the M5 or M6 is LPDDR6, which is much faster. I plan to upgrade the RAM and having bigger speeds and bandwidth will benefit the overall performance.

But who am I kidding. It’s very likely that I’ll finally replace my 2014 Mac mini.

Apple has said the ultra-thin 2024 iPad Pro serves as a model for its upcoming design philosophy, with the company planning to offer "the thinnest and lightest products" in each category across the tech industry.
So, does this mean they're going to make the Mac Mini even smaller? I remember Quinn Nelson's (SnazzyLabs) video where he had fun cutting down an M1 Mini.

I wonder if they will shrink the Mini or even stuff it inside a keyboard. It's had that same profile for a long time now.
AppleTV size or smaller would be great. Remove power supply and have single cable to display with PD. Would be minimal setup with ASD or most PD monitors.

That will only work as long as Apple continue to support Intel processors in their new releases. It will be interesting to see how long they continue with that.
Not really because there's OpenCore Legacy Patcher which will be available. You can install Sonoma on a 2012 Mini or MacBook with Legacy Patcher.

“ there is "at least one Mac model that will get more dramatic changes."

I might finally get my MacBook Mini

That would certainly be interesting. I’m looking forward to the Mini upgrade because I use mine all day for work and I’d really like it to be able to display some better resolutions for dual monitors. Hoping the M4 upgrade allows for that.

Putting it in a keyboard sounds fun, but they wouldn’t do that considering all the ports you’d need coming out of it.

Great news about Apple going to be putting M4 chips in the iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro models in 2024. I really would love to see Mac Studio and Mac Pro M4 updates also, but I understand Apple is updating their more popular models first. I hope that the increased performance boosts that MaxTech estimates come to reality. I would really like to see a 32" iMac Pro model with the M4 Pro chip and Pro level specs!

It is absolutely ridiculous that there will be M4 Max MBPs while the Studio and Pro are still on M2.

The higher-end M3 Max already had nearly the same performance as the M2 Ultra in some areas, the M4 Max is likely to beat it out across the board.
It’s not absolutely ridiculous. “Absolutely frustrating”? Sure. Maybe. This is a business. They know what products sell and where to drive the most in sales. They’ve finely tuned their strategy on this over many years. To them, it makes sense.

I say this as someone in the market for an M4 Max Studio.

The masses always come before the niche markets.

Wait! Did Apple just rehire Jony Ive?! 😀

Agree with Mystery. The SD card slot was standard on the MacBook Airs through 2017. See https://support.apple.com/en-us/111924

My 2013 and 2015 had it.

The SD card slot is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a "professional" port. Nor are the MacBook Airs "low-end consumer models". (Or, were they, for that matter!)

Unlikely on the SD Card and HDMI ports. Those are professional ports while the Air is a low-end consumer model aimed at
😂😂😂 YMMD - and once more 😂😂😂 P-R-O-P-F-E-S-S-I-O-N-A-L yeah, got it - like connection your MBA to a bigger screen to watch Netflix.

Will we finally see entry level Macs get more RAM? Other wiser enhanced AI capabilities of the M4 don't make much sense. And even 16GB is on the lower end for AI.

I’m lined up for an M4 Pro Mac Mini as soon as they come out, so it’s good to hear that may happen this year (although it’s also possible they’ll hold off the Pro version until next year).

Currently using a 6-core Intel Mini from shortly before the transition, which is less fun than using a few-year-old, decently-specc’d computer should be.

Same here. My 2018 Mac Mini has been fine but I think almost 6 years later, it's time to replace it with an M4 Pro Mac Mini when it comes out!

What about iPad mini?
What about it? Rumors have been saying an A15 our A17 chip. Rumors also said late this year. So… September with the iPhones or October? I’ve stopped waiting.

I'm using a 2015 MBA with SD Card slot. I don't want a heavy, chunky MBP, nor a dongle or adapter, and I do want an SD Card. You're only saying that about the SD Card Macs because it's the thing people say. Never once did I think my MBA was a pro machine all these years. Real world compatibility is a must for all Macs, and adding HDMI and SD Card helps to provide that. When MBP (and MBA) had just USB-C ports I gave feedback to Apple for four years asking them to bring back ports on all of those machines, including MagSafe. Sometimes I would post about it here and on Reddit but I was cheekily told by smart arses re Macs those ports were dead and were not coming back—users here and there mocked and laughed—they were wrong.

I continue to give Apple this feedback in relation to MBA. Processor and upgrade wise I think Apple should widen the gap between MBA and MBP. For one, they should get rid of the "M3" model of MBP. Pro machines = pro chips. They should not only bring back the wedge design to the MBA, but they should make MBP a wedge too (a thicker wedge; same wedge angle) as a wedge design is superior ergonomically. Port variety across Macs should be consistent, and MBP should have a higher Thunderbolt 4 port count—four for MBP; two for MBA.

We don’t need the thinnest and lightest products lmao. Didn’t we already do this mess with Jony Ive? Is Apple just going in a circle? Just keep refining what already works! More battery life, more power, more green! Thinner and lighter doesn’t always mean better. Well, computer wise that is lol

I would like that to. But I think an USB-C as Power Plug would be to dangerous without a puffer batterie.
