Well, that Mac Studio with the larger Mac mini form factor doesn't make much sense unless it has something faster and hotter than the existing M1 Max. So, it would either have to be a dual M1 Pro and/or Max or something else and I don't think I've seen any speculation that the current M1 can be used in a multi-processor configuration.

The Mac Pro would have to support multi-processor setups but I kind of assumed that would require a next-generation chip design.

In any case, if the Mac Studio really has dual M1 Pro/Max chips and if it looks anything like the posted (rumored) renderings then it would be exactly what I was hoping for from Apple. But, the entry level price would have to be no more than about $2.5K (512GB NVME and 16GB DRAM) for the dual M1 Pro version before I'd really be THAT interested.

However, that "Peek" suggestion for the event may mean that they will just reveal plans for the Mac Studio with a promised release by the end of 2022. Maybe the Mac Studio at the end of 2022 with the Mac Pro in early 2023?

Display studio price: 1999 USD
I guess we wont see an affordable 27” iMac as it was in Intel era.
M1 27” iMac price would be more close to iMac Pro with better specs than MBP

In Intel era, same specs MBP and iMac 27 were same price but iMac had vetter CPU and better GPU. With M1 Max, Apple just cant offer this at similar price

Yes, it wouldn't make sense to make it bigger just for the M1 Pro/Max since the current laptops can handle them just fine.

"Monitor running iOS" must surely mean they will add Apple Pencil support and it will be able to swivel so that you can draw on it. Similar to the Microsoft Surface Studio All in One. Would find it hard to see the value in a monitor running iOS if it wasn't able to use the Apple Pencil.

Edit: literal Mark Gurman quote is "Running iOS = has an A-Series chip powering it." So he doesn't actually know if it runs iOS. He just knows it has an A-Series chip, which could be used to do just about anything, not actually means it has to run iOS.

The only reason to put an A-chip in the monitor and to run iOS/iPad OS on it is to enable touch screen / pen support on the screen. That will be a great combo together with the MacOS 12.3 with universal control.
not seeing touch in a vertical external display, almost 0 chances
That SoC is to make the laptop cold, even the intel ones, in clam shell today are running very hot when they are connected to external displays. Also universal control i can see it

How about the processor being there to work with Universal Control and add some fancy features?

Like allowing UC to control whether your Mac (of whatever model) or MacBook (of whatever model) or iPad (of whatever model) is using the display? That is, a fancy way of implementing a display input switch. Possibly including various screen split options. Just use your mouse to switch input. Say, you use bottom left corner to invoke a tiled window showing all currently available inputs.

Allow any number of wireless display inputs to be active. So it could be used with multiple headless Macs.

Also, allow two (or more) of these displays to work together. So from one you can select the inputs and tiling for both (or all) of them.

Finally, enable your iPhone to connect and display without even taking it out of your pocket.

that is a microsoft studio...that is used for touch on horizontal, not in vertical. I dont see this external montior to be able to sit almost flat on table to be used as a touch monitor
And we know microsoft like to place touch in everything just for the sake of sales

Agree, remember the T2 chip that was basically an A8 series that was for touchID secure enclaved and the touchbar

M1 Pro is not set up for multi SoC use, M1 Max is...

Minimum dual SoC model might be $3399 (20/48, 64/512, dual Gigabit Ethernet)...

"Mac Studio and Apple Studio Display available now...!"
Gotta have something fresh to sell until the Fall release of the new M2 line-up to sell to the folks that spent the last half year or so drooling over the new Mac Studio line-up but can't quite afford it...!

Okay, here is my guess for the "Peek Performance" event for the desktop Macs.

Apple will put the current M1 Pro/Max into the existing Mac mini form factor and drop the current Intel offering of same. Ship date could be immediate or next week.

Then, they will pre-announce or offer a "peek" at the Mac Studio with a next-generation, dual-processor version of Apple silicon. This will ship before the end of 2022 (late summer or more likely this fall). They may or may not provide a "peek" at the next-generation Mac Pro, but that probably won't ship until early 2023.

Also, I don't know why they wouldn't ship a new iMac with a larger display and the M1 Pro/Max. But, maybe the display (mini LED?) isn't ready yet.

And remember, the pre-event rumors are nearly always overblown (i.e. what we actually get is always less than the "best" of the rumors).

i switched to ultrawide format a year ago. and i love this format to one hundred percent. would never go back. my main tasks are big excel sheets, python coding, logic pro with a lot of plugins.

Heat dissipation since they will be plugged in all the time and rev up way more.
Think it might to be more than that... even with M(1/2/Pro/Max)CPUs the current enclosure can handle the dissipation... now if they've done something "radical" (like a GPU chip... though with that, or even the dual processor config they'll need to do something about the UMA, e.g. a UMA bridge)... or adding space for storage.

But excited if indeed a larger "mini" form factor is coming as that could really be a monster in a small package, and hopefully not just all GPU muscle, but some meat on the CPU side for more dev/CPU bound folks (though the name studio implies it's GPU)

The 34" or the 38" one? I forget the details but the resolution of these are different.

I think Apple will eventually release a new Mini, even if it isn’t tomorrow. A pro-level desktop with monitor option now makes sense given the lack of an updated 27” iMac. Should be an interesting event!

Will be interesting what’s iOS on the display for. Use it like a huge iPad with Apple Pencil (in an alternative mode)?
Could it be they go all wireless besides the power cord? Only way to connect it to your Mac is through WiFi?

Dual internal ssd highly unlikely isn’t it? ;(
If by SSD you mean M.2, then no, that’s totally reasonable. SATA, very much not going to happen. Presumably Tim Cooke got a PS5 in the last two years, yeah?
