My wild, out-of-left-field speculation is that there’s a chance that this may not be a MacBook Air, but a new plain ol’ MacBook. It may be a replacement for the 13 inch Pro which, frankly, makes no sense any longer without at least an M1 Pro chip option. In fact, Apple could essentially eliminate the 13 inch Pro AND the Air with one brand new laptop. It simplifies the product line while still offering a lower end laptop.
I am expecting Air to come out in colours. But maybe like you have said, hopefully it is not a MacBook Air. 🤞

June 2022 - just the 13.6" Air in limited colors and with the M1

sometime in 2023 - add the 15.2" Air, upgrade both Airs to M2, add more colors

They may be saving more colors (think HomePod Mini) for the big 2023 "relaunch".

Actually at this moment, i don't really care about the color, nor the chip. I just want two things, one is a thinner bezel, and the second is to release it ASAP!!

I am done waiting too long... Out of patience already. Plus, i need a new laptop, and buying the current Air NOW seems not a good option, at least for me. Besides, i live in Madrid, and here the current Air won't arrive before 2 of August. I don't know why.

The upcoming 2022 MacBook Air is not expected to come in a range of colors similar to the 24-inch iMac, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In a tweet, Gurman says that the MacBook Air is likely to come in the standard space gray, silver, and gold colors, similar to prior models.

Reports of multiple color options are likely "exaggerated," according to Gurman, who says he is not expecting much more than the typical MacBook Air colors, but the gold color could be more of a champagne. He also says that it will be available in his "favorite iMac color," a shade of blue.

Rumors have indicated that the MacBook Air will feature off-white bezels and an off-white keyboard, drawing similarities to the 24-inch iMac and fueling expectations of a wider range of colors. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in March said the next MacBook Air would feature "more color options" but he did not provide specific details, and there have been no concrete rumors on color options.

The upcoming MacBook Air is expected to feature a redesigned chassis that's similar to the MacBook Pro, doing away with the tapered design. It is not yet clear if it will have a notch, but it seems to be a possibility.

Some rumors have suggested the MacBook Air will have a next-generation M2 chip, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that it will continue to use an M1 chip, with Apple instead offering the new design as the main selling point.

The MacBook Air could be unveiled as soon as next Monday, as Gurman has said that Apple might introduce it at the Worldwide Developers Conference. For more on what to expect from the WWDC keynote, we have a dedicated guide that outlines all of the rumors we've heard so far.

The more I hear, the less I like it. I’ve been holding off replacing my 2014 MacBook Pro. No M2? No colors? No thanks.

Keep the MBA name, add SD Card and MagSafe (need SD Card, MBP is much too chunky for me), make screen 14.1”: bigger is better in the age of internet video (rumoured 13.6” not big enough), employ upside-down “T” arrangement (tactile is better).

You have other options, like the 16" MBP then.
there is a £1400 difference between the Air and 16" Pro. so, no, it's not an option. Even if you compare the top spec Air it's a £950 difference. All that just for a larger screen? C'mon...

Apple should be making a larger Air that is about 15". It's ridiculous that, just if you want a larger screen, you need to buy a device with beefed up specs that very well might be overkill for you.

Hopefully the rumours of them working on a larger Air are true. I'll buy one as soon as possible. I'm not using a 13" screen or wasting money on a more expensive model just for the larger screen.

If they don't add colors, then there is no reason for white keyboard and bezel. Space Grey and white keyboard/bezel will look horrible.

I have no doubts that Apple can effectively manage production rates that will rapidly match the sales rated with various version of the MBA. Colors are not really a problem because as soon as they see initial performance of each color they will be able to immediately adjust production rates. Even if a color is a poor seller they can take empty shells waiting for components off the production line and only use them when smaller "top ups" are needed.

I have an MBP in space grey and will not be buying a MBA in Silver, Space Grey of Gold. Blue of green would work for me, or I'll go with a new iMac when my MBP needs replacement.

I would have liked white, I have lots of consumer devices in white. The blue looks good too.
An M2 would have been nice just to make the product last longer before it reaches eol.

This "Air" has the weirdest most lame of rumors. Macbook like chassis rather than the wedge Air. Drop of Air moniker. No new colors. No bigger screen. But white bezels and keyboard instead of black. An M2 that's not really an M2 but more a M1.01...

Erm.
It epitomises the conflict between expectation, desire and reality, when it comes to new Apple hardware releases…!

They made the bezels white on the iMac because it blends into the wall in a home. Would make no sense to do it with a laptop.

Geez, people in this thread are so materialistic. People still buy computers to use for productivity purposes, please remember that. Yeah, you get a new color, but what else are you gonna do with that? Admire it then go back to work?

IF they keep the M1 in this new Macbook Air, Apple will likely give it the full fat version with 8 GPU Cores on the base model. The current base MB Air starts with 7 GPU cores. Obviously from a marketing aspect, having the M2 will look a lot better.

Yes, and actually maybe add more GPU cores, up to 10.

So is he saying it will be released in Blue? Not matching the iMac colors would be a surprise. They seem to be popular. Everyone wants the M2 MBA in multiple colors and we are going to get the same M1 in the same colors. Are they trying to get it to flop? I would think that colors on a laptop make more sense then colors on the back of a home computer. All I know is it better fit in an envelope. Pros got their giant brick MBPs, don't beef up my MBA! And put the TouchBar back on the MBA while you are at it!
The Touch Bar was BS and will never come back. Forum members may like colorful MacBooks, but many company only allow colors like silver and grey to be ordered by their employees.
Might not be interesting for Apple to offer many colors but also I hope they will do it anyway.

That’s exactly what I was thinking and maybe offer binned version of the M1 Pro chip for an upgradable model. So it would be:

- 8 Core for entry level 1299
- binned M1 Pro for 1599 model
- Older M1 model with 7 graphics core sticks around for 899. Cheapest MacBook you can get.

Weird. I would think the Air would be way more likely to get colors than the iMac would. I can see teens and young people all over social media going crazy for colors, and MacBook Air is way more popular with them than an iMac.
