The upcoming 2022 MacBook Air is not expected to come in a range of colors similar to the 24-inch iMac, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In a tweet, Gurman says that the MacBook Air is likely to come in the standard space gray, silver, and gold colors, similar to prior models.

Reports of multiple color options are likely "exaggerated," according to Gurman, who says he is not expecting much more than the typical MacBook Air colors, but the gold color could be more of a champagne. He also says that it will be available in his "favorite iMac color," a shade of blue.

Rumors have indicated that the MacBook Air will feature off-white bezels and an off-white keyboard, drawing similarities to the 24-inch iMac and fueling expectations of a wider range of colors. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in March said the next MacBook Air would feature "more color options" but he did not provide specific details, and there have been no concrete rumors on color options.

The upcoming MacBook Air is expected to feature a redesigned chassis that's similar to the MacBook Pro, doing away with the tapered design. It is not yet clear if it will have a notch, but it seems to be a possibility.

Some rumors have suggested the MacBook Air will have a next-generation M2 chip, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that it will continue to use an M1 chip, with Apple instead offering the new design as the main selling point.

The MacBook Air could be unveiled as soon as next Monday, as Gurman has said that Apple might introduce it at the Worldwide Developers Conference. For more on what to expect from the WWDC keynote, we have a dedicated guide that outlines all of the rumors we've heard so far.

If this is all accurate information, then it better get a large price reduction!

You seem to be ignoring the 24” iMac. MBAs certainly sell in much higher volume than iMacs. Perhaps they wouldn’t give us the full taste of the rainbow, but at least 2-3 non-dull colors would be a relief.
I was speaking strictly about their laptops, really. Agreed about the colors, though.

I do wonder whether they sell more MacBook Airs than they do iMacs… ? iMac would seem to be a product aimed more at general home and educational use for fixed setups. Wonder if there are figures that show which sells more?

Apple’s laptops have sold far better than their desktops since the mid-2000s, this isn’t changing.

Color is a low priority. It needs to address the more important priorities like more dGPU and CPU performance and lighter weight. I have an Incase cover over mine anyway since it's ding and scratch prone.
dGPU and CPU performance? Are you serious?

What do you find the MBA to be lacking in? A dGPU will never happen on an MBA as that is not the intended function of it. Also, the M1 is still quite powerful for the requirements users have in an ULTRA PORTABLE device.

The average MBA user cares more about how pretty it looks rather than how high a CPU can score in a Geekbench test. Colors and aesthetics should be a high priority.

The M1 MBA is already pretty light but I agree it would be nice if the redesign is lighter.

None of this is making me want to part with my M1 MBA, which is my favorite MacBook of all time. Sorry, 16" M1 Max, love you too.
Actually, I'm starting to think this coming terrible sounding revision to the MBA is a feature, not a bug.

The current M1 MBA is one of the best laptops ever made. It's a huge seller. However, Apple feels too many people, especially professionals, are buying the MBA instead of the MBP. Apple isn't happy about that. I think they're intentionally going to make it less appealing to professionals (and people in general) in its design, trying to steer them to the MBP.

The future MBA will be designed not to make it more appealing to the consumer market, but rather less appealing to professionals.

I really hope I'm wrong and these rumors don't turn out to be true. I think it would be bad for Apple in the long run. I love my M1 MBA because it has a perfect combination of size, weight, quiet, fast, long battery life, along with the black keyboard & bezel.

My wild, out-of-left-field speculation is that there’s a chance that this may not be a MacBook Air, but a new plain ol’ MacBook. It may be a replacement for the 13 inch Pro which, frankly, makes no sense any longer without at least an M1 Pro chip option. In fact, Apple could essentially eliminate the 13 inch Pro AND the Air with one brand new laptop. It simplifies the product line while still offering a lower end laptop.

I was sort of looking forward to a fun color injection on the Air line

As @Orange Bat said above, perhaps there's a normal MacBook coming back with colors?

That's great too!

I was hoping to see an M2 Air in purple or blue that would be just fine as a lightweight dev machine but if we're going with white kb/white bezels, I'll just get the 14" MBP M1 Pro and call it good. It'll be interesting to see if it's even introduced next week or if we wait until fall.
