I am more interested in a neural engine update for obvious reasons. By the time Apple finally figures out how to get really useful Apple Intelligence going we will need a major neural engine.

Hopefully, the new standard iPad Pros get 16 RAM like the Macs. Procreate and Nomad will not even open some 3D models if they are too large or complex and crash from lack of memory, which shouldn't happen on a Pro model. The 1tb and 2tb models are far too expensive to get just for the extra RAM. The Pro models should be able to handle these programs with no issues.
My M2 iPad Pro has 16 GB of RAM. I wonder what they will go up to next and will Apple Intelligence require it?

Overpowered iPads (or computers in general) have never been an problem - underpowered have always been a problem. It was always in the cards that once ASi development was up and running, Apple could upgrade MX every year or 1.5 years similar to the Ax series.

It should run a real OS

Like one that allows me to have multiple audio sources playing without muting one or the other

(to just barely even scratch the surface of issues with GimpediPadOS)
Listening to music. Some stupid website has a video ad. Music stops. That bug alone ruins the iPad experience. Doesn’t happen on MacOS.

Use MacTracker to check the build time frame for any Apple Product and it is updated regularly as new devices come out. My M1 Ultra was made from March 2022 to June of 2023. So it should be supported until 2030.

I turn 80 in 8 days. No guarantees I will be here in 2030 so is sort of a moot point for me. My Mac minis and M4 laptops are still in production until midyear. They could well outlast me.

My model Mac Studio Displays are still being made and I pay the Apple Care premium so they have to be supported for seven years from when the last one comes off the line.

Old saying is "want what you have, not an expensive newer device that is a fraction of an eye blink faster." Another old favorite is "one never sees a U-haul following the heart, so we are NOT taking it with us!" 🤓

A great example of where I most notice it

Sometimes I can't even find the item on a page that is stealing audio focus ... I just know my podcast or music stopped and it's infuriating.

I got the A17 Pro model with Cellular/5G this past year, but I will definitely make that upgrade as well when they drop it.
Yup I got the WiFi version iPad Mini 7th generation too. The mini size is all I need from the iPad lineup. It’s nice that you can still use the Apple Pencil ✏️ on the mini too.

Cannot wait for the M4 Ipad Pro again.

I doubt they'd improve the terrible camera or improve the battery life because they are obsessed with thinness but besides that there is no the Ipad needs

Yeah, you are my exact point. You want an iPad to run Mac Apps so you can use Mac quality in an iPad factor.

That is not what an iPad was designed to be--you want that? You buy a Mac.

This is never going to change--ever.

So I think my thesis is correct--you people want Mac quality apps working on a 13 glass, touch first tablet.

That is not an iPad--that is a tablet running MacOS. Just buy a Mac.

"BUT I WANT IT IN AN IPAD FORM FACTOR!!!!"

Sorry, that is not how it works. Windows makes those kinds of tablets.
You are not using the iPad with the magic key aboard pro.

We can talk all day about the tablet factor but once you throw in the Apple Pencil pro and the magic keyboard it’s a completely different beast.

We can compare it all day to windows tablets but the reason people use Apple os is because of the ecosystem, when I watch movies through Apple iTunes on windows it’s hot garbage, I can’t get the right format or it just straight up stops playing.

With Apple TV on the iPad os, it’s possibly the best viewing experience on the go per se.
The iPad Pro becomes new device when combined with the keyboard though, the shortcuts make using iOS a breeze.

It is held back by software big time BUT the one thing that I love about my iPad Pro that a MacBook or windows tablet does not have is Cellular.

I don’t need wifi, I have cellular and can use it on the go or pretty much anywhere, that’s the ultimate advantage if you have that model.

The one thing I disagree with a few people here is the size. 13" is the sweet spot, it doesn't need to be bigger, I travel with it a lot and it barely fits in my back as is, 16-17" is a carrying case on it's own lolol.

There's a stand for that.

Yea i know those, it’s more of the desperation speaking here… finding ways to upgrade the ipad on the hardware side, when we all know that it is the software that holds it back. The dock idea came around, when Mac Rumors started talking about this potential new home hub. Why create a new product category when you can just upgrade the current one and give it more functionality. That would be my take on it.

And to please the few, like 7 billion or so, people that don’t own an iPad and wouldn’t want to buy a 24 month old device as new.
Exactly!
People shouldn't even be talking when all they use computers for is Instagram and TikTok and think that's all everyone does with computers all day long. And here I am, someone who actually uses these machines for their intended purpose, complaining it needs more memory as standard to load my models into Nomad and Procreate and Shapr 3D for work. And yes any bit of extra power and lightness would be greatly appreciated. Not by all, but by the people who actually buy and enjoy the iPad Pros because they help make their work easier.

I mean to be honest when the new ipads came out last year, within a few months Macrumors made a post about "slowing" down production due to demand. Few will upgrade to the M5 if they do it this year, I highly doubt this will happen, considering they said the same thing about the M4's in between a few years, etc.

The source of “slowing down production” posts are usually analysts that value getting folks to post their URL and getting clicks as, when Apple’s quarterly reports come out, there’s usually stark differences between “what happened” and “slowing production”. And, it doesn’t matter if few upgrade, you may not be aware of this, but there’s MORE people that don’t own ANY iPad than own M4 iPads. It’s true. Count up every iPad that has been sold since it’s introduced, there’s still MORE people that don’t own ANY iPad, than that!

Focusing on folks that are upgrading is not what Apple’s doing. Sure, they’re happy to get that additional money, but they’re selling new devices to folks new to the whole world of iPad and providing those folks with the best tech they have available at the time.
