Really hope the 12.9" does get reduced bezels and a slight weight reduction, especially if the 11" isn't going to get mini-LED. I'd love to move back to the larger form factor, but the current gen is a tad too heavy IMO.
Of course it will. Then you’ll have to buy a new keyboard case too.

Except the iPad does different things than the Macbook air does.
Previously the MacBool Air was slow like molasses and an iPad Pro would run the circles around it doing basic tasks like Microsoft Office apps. But now that's all changed, the MacBook Air is now a great option for 99% of all use cases.

Both devices would fit into carry-on bags, and both would be a pain to use on an economy flight if one is traveling with the typical cheapo airlines that pretend you don’t need proper fold-out tables.
I forgot about garbage fold out tables, but I generally keep the laptop in my lap anyway. But that would be annoying.

Let me guess the m2 will allow it to have lockscreen customizations
Yes, that's only possible with bleeding edge chips. o_O

Why, exactly? If your iPad is docked to a wireless charger drip feeding charge, it makes good sense.
If you have to ask then you don't know crap about wireless charging and how inefficient they are as is. So you expect people to wait 24 hours for iPad to drip charge?

Fair enough, you're right.

Unless Apple doubles or triples its wireless charging speeds I don't think I'd use it as it would take too long to charge the iPad.
And generate crap ton of heat (wasted energy) in the process of increasing the charge speed.

In the context that wireless / magsafe charging be used to charge your iPad overnight, speed is less crucial of an issue, I feel.

That's largely how I view the charging of my 13 pro max. At night, it goes onto this Belkin charging stand together with my Apple Watch and (every few days) AirPods, and it's at 100% by the time I wake up at 5am every morning. In the rare occasion that I need to charge it during the day (say I find I forgot to turn on the charger the previous night), that's where wired charging comes in.

But now that we have two different versions of magsafe (one for iPhones, one for laptops), I wonder which version the iPad will get. I don't see the iPad getting a second port, even if it's one dedicated to charging, but wireless charging feels even more unwieldy.

This rumour just feels weird.

I agree, the M1 is too slow for an iPad.
Yes, too slow. When the M2 iPad comes out, Craig F. will update today‘s justification limiting Stage M to the M1 iPad Pro as follows: "Now that we're letting you have up to *eight* apps on a panel plus another *eight* – up to *16* apps to be instantaneously responsive and have plenty of memory, we just don't have that ability on the other systems," such as the previous-generation *M1* iPad Pro.“

Just put oled or miniLED in the dang 11” already

If Apple could do so without raising the price too much, that would be great...

Mayne iPad Pro is different. I recall some forum members mentioning that for MacBook, M2 is not faster than M1 so there is not point to wait for a new laptop with the M2 chip?

First thing, no one has the new M2 MacBooks (Air & Pro) in their hands yet, so they are spewing conjecture...

Secondly, Apple clearly shows the M2 is faster than the M1, core for core; and the addition of more GPU cores also improves overall performance in relation to the M1 SoC...

The M2 is NOT an upgrade to the M1, at least not in the "OMG, it's SO much faster now...!" kinda way most people want to see when going from one chip generation to another...

I see the M2 as a very minor (with a few exceptions) upgrade to the M1 (more of a side-grade); it seems more targeted at new entrants into the Apple silicon world than at those looking to upgrade their M1 products...

One exception is the media engines, these are new to the base Mn-series SoCs; said media engines were not in the M1 but are now in the M2...

So when Apple finally releases an iPadOS variant of Final Cut Pro, it may just be a "M2 SoC only, thx" kind of deal...? I can hear the whinging already...! ;^p

No. If you read what I said properly then you would understand what I meant.

I wish they'd grow the smaller Pro to 11.5 or 11.9 or whatever inches to differentiate it more from the just 0.1inch smaller Air and the 1.9" larger 12.9er. 11.9 could be a great compromise (1" larger than the Air, 1" smaller than the 'big Pro')
I was thinking if Apple are doing a 14.1” iPad Pro max m2 why couldn’t they do the smaller size as a 12.2” iPad Pro m2 with mini LED? Or have it be a model with OLED? Or in the same aspect ratio as the 11” only bigger and with improved display tech?

There’s been no clues from Ross Young about a significant change in display below the 14.1” though.

They could then leave the 11” on lcd and M1 and potentially even leave the 12.9” on M1 - also untouched - possibly reducing the SKUs so storage maxes out at 512gb (with 8gb ram)

Either way, smaller bezels threatens the utility of the Magic Keyboard and might create further fragmentation.

Apple already had the foundation for a 14" iPad Pro:
12,9 iPad Pro (5. Generation) vs 12,9 iPad Pro (1. Generation) - Apple (AT) 2.png

Just enlarge the screen to get the same bezels as the current 12,9" iPad Pro. 🤷‍♂️

wireless charging an iPad sounds stupid. I wonder if I can get it fully charged under 12 hours lol.

and get ready for M2 iPads getting always on display and M1 iPads getting none of that.

I want a iPad Pro 11 inch with mini LED.
Yes. Or OLED. It’s going to be very difficult for me to justify upgrading my 2020 iPP 11 if they don’t give it mini-LED. I don’t want to buy a new Magic Keyboard unless it’s really worth it.

I would imagine that the new Pros launch this autumn with 11” and 12.9” (uLED) and then a 14” joins the line up next year worth the same specs and Apple monitor the sales figures /margins to see which size to drop. My guess would be the 11 is dropped and that audiences pushed to the Air or (preferably for Apple) the 12.9” Pro.
Sad. 11” is the most portable, perfect size for me. And I suspect for many others, too.

Hope the 11” Pro gets mini LED. Will be nice if the 12.9” gets reduced bezels. A slightly smaller dimension of the 12.9” may cause more people to choose 12.9” over the 11”.

Who really uses iPad Pro's to their full extent? Like... what industry are you in? Why are you using an iPad and not a laptop?
I have an M1 12.9” as my main personal device. At home I have a powerful windows desktop that I use mostly for gaming, for work I have a work provided 13” MacBook Pro. iPadOS is extremely limited, but it is a nice product to use.

Although I really like the iPad, I think Apple got the design wrong. This product absolutely needs a kickstand to be usable, especially the 12.9” model. The problem is that to get a kickstand you’ll need a case which will add even more bulk. IMO able should really acknowledge that Microsoft did something right in the design of the Surface Pro.

Let me guess, the best gestures of iOS 17 won’t work on it…Apple really burned me this year by not allowing the Mini that isn’t even a year old to have Stage Manager. (At least on device, I can see the external output being limited but on device is absolutely doable).

People are saying it feels cramped on the 11" iPads, do you really want to have three or four windowed apps on that small screen? Split-screen seems better suited to the Mini.

“wireless charging, and upgrades to the camera system”

The two things I really don’t care 👆🏻

What about miniled for 11”?
16GB RAM for all models?
horizontal FaceTime camera?
Two USB C / TB4 ports?
WIFI 6E?

I think wireless charging, if it was via some kind of MagSafe stand would be awesome. Wouldn’t need to keep it plugged in. Doesn’t matter if it’s slow for this purpose.
A better camera is always welcome, LiDAR scanning is great with an iPad, not to mention regular high qt scanning b

. Don’t care about the 11”
. I’m not sure I mind where the face camera is atm. It makes no difference to me, still works for faceID or face time either way - but I suppose as I use mainly in landscape I agree with you.
. I wish the option for 16gb wasn’t tied to the storage but don’t mind an 8gb model.
. 2 tb ports would be amazing.
. Better wifi is always welcome.

To be fair, MagSafe is more of a convenience feature. As a casual user I would take a wireless but slower charging design so I don’t have to deal with charging cables. Additionally this would allow for more stands that can rotate allowing iPads to be used in landscape/portrait which would better support universal control. Rotating to portrait for reading documents then back to landscape for a tutorial video or similar.
I'm also dreaming of an iPad Pro that magnetically rotates on the (new) magic keyboard - i.e. one that can be attached as landscape or portrait while charging and typing. iPads are fantastic devices, then we are forcing them to be too much like traditional laptops. I prefer to read and type certain documents in a portrait orientation without having to hold my iPad.
