Apple will announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in "a matter of days," respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today in his latest Power On newsletter.

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, codenamed J617 and J620, will be the first update to the higher-end iPad since April 2021, where both models gained the M1 chip and a new 12.-9-inch mini-LED display. For their first update in a year and a half, the upcoming iPad Pro models are expected to gain the M2 Apple silicon chip, offering faster performance and possibly new charging capabilities.

For design, the new iPads will look like the current models, with no significant changes expected. Early rumors said that the smaller 11-inch model would gain a mini-LED display, currently only available on the larger 12.9-inch model, but that is no longer expected to happen.

The new iPad Pro models could also feature some form of MagSafe charging capabilities, as per previous reports. There is also the possibility the new iPad Pro models could feature reverse-wireless charging capabilities, allowing users to charge their iPhone or AirPods on the back of the iPad.

Given the incremental update expected for the upcoming iPads, Apple is no longer planning an event for October. Apple is expected to launch the new iPads and updates to the Mac lineup through press releases and updates on its website.

Alongside the new iPad Pro models, Apple is also expected to release iPadOS 16 later this month. Unlike in past years, this year's iPadOS and iOS updates were not released simultaneously. Instead, Apple delayed iPadOS 16 until later in the fall to allow it more time to refine the update and work on Stage Manager. Stage Manager is a new multi-tasking and windowing system for specific iPad models that continues to face bugs, despite iPadOS 16's release in just a few weeks.

Yep, if the rumors of Ventura and 16.1 coming out the week of the 24th are true, obviously the new hardware would be announced the week of the RC builds.
Not sure why anyone expected any different, the RC builds will obviously have tons of code related to the new hardware, so why would they wait an entire extra week to announce them?

I wonder if the new iPad Pro will be prone to overheating or if it will have adequate cooling? Also, stage manager is still half baked at least users have the option to disable it until it’s fully baked.

Apple has impressive hardware, it’s partnership with tsmc has enabled it to productize amazing stuff.

But the software team needs to catch up in terms of quality. iPhone 14 pro bugs with the camera that twerked. Monterey had several nasty bugs that involved kernel panics. Ventura is a disaster on some intel boxes in terms of the thunderbolt bus on a port going when the system resumes from sleep (thunderbolt devices connected to a tb4 dock eject/disconnect).

But I am glad apple was willing to rethink the iPadOS UI.

Cool, a new iPad Pro. I am hoping we see a new 14” size.

Will a new Pencil launch with the new Pro…:apple:

I like to use my Pencil with my 12.9” Pro. One annoyance….how to make the keyboard full size when I want to type with my fingers after using the Pencil 🙄

The complete lack of stock of 11-inch iPad Pro for shipping already confirmed it a while ago.

I suspect this launch might be bifurcated with the new 10.5 and 12.9-inch models getting a later ship date.

Just buy a MacBook

It’s crazy though, M1 iPad is so powerful and literally nothing it can’t do, M2 will only be worth it if they open up the OS more …. Which iPad OS 16 Is not going to be the holy grail. At some point they will hit a bottleneck where they just sell faster is better.
Keep dreaming. Maybe in 2024

Curious that the regular iPad 10 isn't imminent, just the Pros on their own. Perhaps the iPad 10 and M2 MBP's will get an event in November?

I'm most interested in the iPad 10, as much as I adore my Air 2, it's due for semi-retirement.
The newsletter also mentioned the iPad 10, not sure why this article omitted that.
New flat edged design, slightly bigger screen, A14 and a USB-C port.
probably will launch at the same time as the pros.
The article also mentioned the new Apple TV, new Mac Mini and new MacBook Pros.
Mark says he doesn’t expect any of that until November, but personally I think he’s wrong.
Ventura is apparently scheduled to release the week of the 24th.
The fall 2020 Mac updates launched at the same time as Big Sur, the fall 2021 updates launched at the same time as Monterey, I don’t know why he expects this year to be any different.
Same with the new Apple TV, makes sense for it to launch with 16.1, which brings matter support.

Ummmm Who CARES. For the 1st time in my life I’m tired && bored of Apple Products 🥲 where is Steve Jobs Timmy done messed your entire company up over $$ & greed
I know, I can’t believe they’re not blowing away Alpha God Vonn (AGV) with every single product update. Jobs would have. AGV would have a freakin jet pack already if it weren’t for Time Apple and his greed!

No. I had two iPad pros & sold the both of them, waiting for actually pro apps. It’s a waste . The iPhones have been stagnant for years with the rest of the industry leading .
