I just bought the 11" wi-fi 512GB iPad Pro on the Amazon Prime sale. Saved $250 on it, which is a pretty good deal. Also has a return date of Jan 31st, which is plenty of time to try it out and also to see what Apple releases before then. If the new one looks a lot better then this one can go back. Also, my existing 10.5" iPad Pro is still doing most everything I want but with reduced battery life. So, I'm also going to decide whether or not I really need the 2021 iPad Pro or not. If I can live with my current one then the new one goes back and I'll check back next year to see if it needs replacing.

Also this is my first device with FaceID. I've avoided it forever until now. My phone is the 3rd gen iPhone SE for exactly that reason. So that may also factor into my decision.

Apple will announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models in "a matter of days," respected Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman said today in his latest Power On newsletter.

The new 11-inch and 12.9-inch models, codenamed J617 and J620, will be the first update to the higher-end iPad since April 2021, where both models gained the M1 chip and a new 12.-9-inch mini-LED display. For their first update in a year and a half, the upcoming iPad Pro models are expected to gain the M2 Apple silicon chip, offering faster performance and possibly new charging capabilities.

For design, the new iPads will look like the current models, with no significant changes expected. Early rumors said that the smaller 11-inch model would gain a mini-LED display, currently only available on the larger 12.9-inch model, but that is no longer expected to happen.

The new iPad Pro models could also feature some form of MagSafe charging capabilities, as per previous reports. There is also the possibility the new iPad Pro models could feature reverse-wireless charging capabilities, allowing users to charge their iPhone or AirPods on the back of the iPad.

Given the incremental update expected for the upcoming iPads, Apple is no longer planning an event for October. Apple is expected to launch the new iPads and updates to the Mac lineup through press releases and updates on its website.

Alongside the new iPad Pro models, Apple is also expected to release iPadOS 16 later this month. Unlike in past years, this year's iPadOS and iOS updates were not released simultaneously. Instead, Apple delayed iPadOS 16 until later in the fall to allow it more time to refine the update and work on Stage Manager. Stage Manager is a new multi-tasking and windowing system for specific iPad models that continues to face bugs, despite iPadOS 16's release in just a few weeks.

The delayed iPadOS 16 update is because “Stage Manager” is being finalized? Nope, Files is the more critically important update with no room for errors - a screw up would impact Macs and phones.

I know, I can’t believe they’re not blowing away Alpha God Vonn (AGV) with every single product update. Jobs would have. AGV would have a freakin jet pack already if it weren’t for Time Apple and his greed!
HomePod got it don’t use it, AirPod Max got it don’t use it. iPads sold them all. iPad Air bends had to replace 4 of them. The Apple battery pack don’t use it. iPhones didn’t buy the 14 Pro. My 2nd every not up grading.

So what are you all using an iPad Pro for? Curious.

General home PC usage and the biggie for me is photo Editing. It’s amazing with the Pencil and the M1 iPad Pro is lightning fast with anything I do and of course the screen is wonderful. I typically use Lightroom but I’ve been trying other apps lately to try to wean myself off Adobe creative cloud. But thus far Lightroom still remains the best.

The newsletter also mentioned the iPad 10, not sure why this article omitted that.
New flat edged design, slightly bigger screen, A14 and a USB-C port.
probably will launch at the same time as the pros.
The article also mentioned the new Apple TV, new Mac Mini and new MacBook Pros.
Mark says he doesn’t expect any of that until November, but personally I think he’s wrong.
Ventura is apparently scheduled to release the week of the 24th.
The fall 2020 Mac updates launched at the same time as Big Sur, the fall 2021 updates launched at the same time as Monterey, I don’t know why he expects this year to be any different.
Same with the new Apple TV, makes sense for it to launch with 16.1, which brings matter support.
I get Gurman's newsletter and regarding the iPad 10 he said they're "working on" it rather than saying they're "imminent." Same with the Apple TV, etc.

I think you're right, and don't mean to be nitpicky, but that was something in the Gurman newsletter than stuck out to me.

The other day I had to vectorize a raster logo - used the Pencil in Illustrator on my iPad Pro…beautiful. Sure beats using my iMac and futzing around with keyboard shortcuts or my Wacom tablet…

I think for creative uses (photo editing, illustration, etc) - iPad Pro is killer. Expensive! But really most people don’t need the Pro. Honestly I don’t. But I could afford it and the extras you get with the Pro are certainly nice.

The post you’re responding to has literally someone saying they “like to use the Apple Pencil”, something that you… Cannot use with a MacBook.the Apple Pencil is fun for the first wee

The pencil is exiting for the first month & then it’s useless. Buy a 3rd party one for the mac & call it a day

I still wait to see if going to a M2 offers anything more in a iPad Pro capabilities with the existing iPadOS 16.1.

I don’t think reverse wireless charging is coming to any Apple product. They ruined that idea with MagSafe. Have you ever tried to attach a MagSafe AirPod case to the back of your iPhone? The magnet configuration is only designed to attach accessories one way.

Ummmm Who CARES. For the 1st time in my life I’m tired && bored of Apple Products 🥲 where is Steve Jobs Timmy done messed your entire company up over $$ & greed

Kind of agree or I am just getting „wiser“ with age and realize we are only talking about tech here. I used to be OBSESSED with Apple products. Now it’s like „wait, what iPad Pro gen are we at right now?“ wait what is the latest watchOS number?

I wanted biggest iPad available, so I got 12.9 Pro. Yes, miniLED was nice bonus when compared to 2020 12.9, but thats about it.
If Apple had non-Pro iPad with larger screen than 12", I would probably get that one and save bunch of $$$ while doing so.

They will probably increase the price as well (apart from US) as they did with iPhones.
Both agree and disagree. iPads dont sell as well as iPhones do, it might not turn out well for their sales.
