Agreed. I have four Mac Studios now and frankly I’m getting a bit fed up with Apple. My M3 Max does things better than my top of the line M2 Ultra. Specifically items related to GPU processing.

I’m tired of my grandma getting better treatment getting newer chips. Apple needs to focus more on the pro market. It causes a cascade and does impact even the Air.

If devs and pros leave those Apps will become dead and it will impact what anyone can run on macOS.
I hear ya, but then again, this hasn't really changed in the last 15 years.

My prediction going forward is that the laptops will get updated every 12-18 months, but the desktops will get updated very 18-24 months or so.

I don't see this. Releasing the iPad M4 means no sales/sales hit of Macs until M4 versions come out.

Is anyone going to make a M4 Mac purchase now the M4 is out.
I don't get this. It's not like Ipads and Macs are interchangable, are they? If I want/need to do Mac things I buy one, and If want/need to do Ipad things I'll buy one of those.

It’s happened enough times now where it wouldn’t be insane to just assume this is the case.

The M4 in the iPad is the same or similar to a M4 going into an Air, it’s not on the horizon it’s being built in a fab. The only reason the iPad gets the M4 is while scale up is occurring.
I suspect unless you need to buy now most people would wait….

M4 Max theoretically could run in a Mac mini but Apple likely won’t go there. M4 Max makes much more sense in a Mac Studio not only because of the thermal advantages of Mac Studio, but also because of the additional ports.
Maybe - we haven't seen the M4 Max yet so it is anybody's guess what the thermals will be, what we do know is that its primary market will be for the 14" and 16" MacBook Pro, so Apple can't afford to have it run too hot. If it can run comfortably in a thin & crispy laptop, it'll probably run comfortably in a Mac Mini housing originally designed to hold an optical drive and spinning rust (and later used to house a big, sweaty, desktop i7). The Studio case was designed for a M1 Ultra which was literally two M1 Maxes worth of heat.

As for ports - yes, the front mounted USB-C ports on the Studio are nice to have (as is the front SD slot), but on the Max version they're only USB ports sharing the same internal hub as the rear USB-As. It's only the Ultra that has the full 6 TB4 ports. Otherwise, the current M2 Pro Mac Mini already has the same rear ports as the Studio - 4 x TB4, 2 x USB-A, Ethernet & HDMI. It also has 10Gbps Ethernet as an option.

Don't get me wrong - I prefer the Studio design to the Mini and would be sad to see the Mx Max Studio go, but the only concrete advantage is a couple of front USB-Cs and an SD card.

Well, Apple are definitely pushing iPad Pros at "content creation" tasks that would usually be done on the Mac ...whether or not you think that will work... and with the prices of the iPad Pro + keyboard combo some people are going to be tossing up between an iPad Pro and a lower-end MacBook Pro/Air.

But mainly, putting the M4 into the iPad is effectively announcing "M4 Macs Coming Soon!" which might put a slight dip in to M3 Mac sales.

I don't think its going to be full Osborne Effect though, and I think the risk of the iPad Pro flopping is greater than the risk of it seriously cannibalising Mac sales - the "must have the latest" crowd have probably already bought their M3s.

Yeah, you're probably right. At least those who are aware that such things as a M3/M4 exist.

Yes 2010 Mac Pro was the latest Apple really cared about pros.

I'm seriously considering to switch to windows for the lack of a decent Mx 27" iMac.

Everything I'm seeing with respect to MS' Windows / AI / ARM event today suggests they've executed very well and it could be a serious threat to the Mac lineup.

Wow… More and more reason to avoid Mac platform for seriuous computing.
3D, Video edition, AI… say good bye to the Mac

Not for people that want so run macOS. For people that want to run Windows, sure, but they’re not using Macs anyway, so…

Pretty much. Fortunately for Apple, there are massive numbers of folks NOT doing serious computing that don’t care.

As others have mentioned, Gurman is often wrong. Selling M4s in some macs and not providing them to users always looking for more power ( those using Mac Studio and Mac Pro ) seems counterintuitive. No doubt Apple makes financial decisions above all else and parts, supplier availability and schedule are big considerations. Leaving their top desktops ( Studio , MacPro ) languishing with older tech is not new for Apple but I can see lots of lost sales for those unwilling to buy a current Studio with an M2.

At $4500 starting price one should never criticize the price of an Apple computer ever again...

Ever since Apple Silicon, it’s been “Choose the form factor, choose the features/ports, choose how much you want to pay/performance” I think it’s actually less confusing because the core part of a generation, even through to the tablets, provide similar single thread performance across the board.
It’s not uniform or linear though. You shouldn’t have your most advanced processor in one of your lowest tier devices while still shilling people on your highest end model with oldest processor.

As several others have pointed out - this article is completely wrong. The newsletter flat out states that all M4 Macs will be released before 2025. It was an older newsletter that said no Studios or Pros until mid to late 2025, and this current newsletter now says before 2025.

No it doesn't. It says "by 2025" not "before 2025". The newsletter also specifically references its own previous newsletter from April, suggesting the same prediction from April still stands.
