i don’t think Apple have cornered themselves. They must have had the names of the next few generations pencilled in before the X was produced. It’s not exactly rocket surgery.

I find it amusing that there is this great discussion of all that is mobile and no discussion of any of the other devices that may be announed. Some, like the Mac Mini have not seen an updated device for years.

What about all the people, who use the current SE just for its size?

I don't want anything bigger than my current SE. Is it so hard to understand for Apple?

All the Apps that I have work wonderful on this 4 inch display, yes it is not as convenient to use safari on it, compared to a bigger phone, but THAT'S IT! Despite the worse "web browsing experience", the small form factor is SO MUCH BETTER in many other ways.

Apple, why don't You give Your customers a real choice? Where is that 4-inch-iPhone X?

It is obvious isn't it, you are not a profitable enough of a group.

Makes sense.

R for retina (the budget iPhone)
S for super-retina (given the higher PPI)
Max to denote a larger iPhone. Pro doesn’t make sense if the only difference between the two is screen size.

Too imparient? Wait till probably spring 2019. Apple for sure wont disturb buyers of big phones with small one at the same moment.

Gurman is talking out of his r(ear). If he has "sources" that fed him that bit of info, he needs to evaluate where he is getting his intel. No chance Apple uses "Xr".

Whether it shows as false (Xr) it may mean retard for someone :) eXtra retard.

It will be interesting to see messing with names next year. Or maybe parts cost will go down and they will return to two models again with iPhone 11 or XI.

These things happened because of Steve laying the foundation for growth. His innovations made Apple what they are today. Timmy’s idea of innovation LSU are a $10K gold watch, a HomePod which seems like just an afterthought, and an iPhone design that hasn’t changed in years. Trusting recommendations are good, so as long as such suggestions aren’t so bad.
They have changed designs and added larger phones 3x after Jobs’ death, and this year looks to be the 4th, but oooook

I wish/I hope that the LCD iPhone is just called ‘iphone’ ie like the iPad is..

Which has zero marketing behind it and your failing to see how marketing is exercised. The iPad is not just called the ‘iPad’, there Is a differentiation between the iPad Pro and then the regular 2018 iPad. If Apple just labeled the iPhone ‘The iPhone’, how would the Consumer be able to differentiate that between the other models to show how it’s superseded by something of the highest spec model possible like X? There needs to be a separation.

Take the Apple Watch for example, does Apple call the Apple Watch every single year the same thing? No. They use the ‘Series’ moniker to help separate the Apple Watch models to show differentiation. That’s the point of marketing it.

Xs, and Xr sound like they should be names on a Ferrari. We started with the simple s/sPlus models, but we now are adding/moving to more ?

I thought Apple were simple.

Apples own website just leaked that the names will be iPhone XS, XS Max and XR for the LCD model. Wow Xs MAX?...just terrible name to be honest.

I’d disagree actually. Most of his reporting now is full of filler. He might be good at reporting something specifically told to him but he’s not very good at providing context or understanding broader meaning. People like John Gruber, Rene Ritchie, Jason Snell are much better at that.

I have no idea how you think any of those people report anything, they rarely if ever break any news. Rene isn't into the rumor reporting and I can't remember the last time Snell did either. I' couldn't disagree with your point more.

Haha, my thoughts exactly :). @asdavis10, think you owe Gurman an apology ;)
Some speculate Apple uses Gurman to intentionally leak when they want to do a little pre-emptive PR. Not sure I buy that, but in any case it looks like he nailed this one.

I’ll definitely pay more attention to his reporting but there are also rumors that don’t pan out. It does make me more confident we’ll see a Mac mini though, which was also a Kuo rumor.

Just checking in.

You’re talking out of your rear. Gurman was right.

You need to re-evaluate your sources.

Or like normal people, "Hang on let me grab my phone"
Lol, have you noticed how many folk actually refer to it in every day usage as an iPhone, and not just, "has anyone seen my phone" as if its special and unique.. what's worse and oh boy, much worse. Is when you see phone cases with a circle cut out at the back to show the logo. That is sooooo desperate!!
