Think more along the lines for Businesses. While there are certainly consumer based solutions, I'd agree they tend to be more gimmicky right now, although having a pair of sunglasses that show me directions in my line of site would be interesting, even for driving.

But if you think along the lines of businesses, then there's a lot more possibilities for providing workers (factory workers, delivery workers, pilots, etc) with enhanced information without the need to look away from what they're working on.

I totally agree. It will be a game changer for face-to-face customer service. Gaze won't have to switch from computer screen to customers as information can be viewed at the same time as interacting. The bank manager will be able to look you in the eyes when turning you down for a mortgage.

Longer term when it can be really high resolution, we will have virtual monitors. We will then go back to teeny tiny mobile phones.

A new iMac that looks like a big iPad would be awesome. Maybe the XDR screen stand is a beta for the next iMac, could even be that you can detach the screen and use it like a iPad. Things to really hope for here is much improved thermals and all solid state storage from the entry level up to the pro model.

Yeah, I almost get the sense that he’s trying to keep some attention after Jon Prosser’s recent rise in the rumour mill.
I think the rumor mill has dried up for him a bit since he went to Bloomberg. I also don’t believe he was ever as in the know as he wanted people to think. I don’t think he ever really understood the inner workings of Apple.

The HomePod has largely been a failure, while I do enjoy mine, it lacks in ability and flexibility to that of the market leaders. I'm not sure a less expensive smaller unit is the answer when Siri is so much more limiting then Alexia
still in a lot of countries is not even sold....maybe homepod and appletv should be an all in one product

Lets hope the iMacs don't take a step back in repairability. Maybe make the components easier to get to without having to apply and reapply adhesive like current gen. A man can dream :)

All of Amazon's Alexa products have been failures as well. Why? Because Amazon created them in the hopes that customers would increase Amazon ordering using voice commands. That hasn't happened. It doesn't generate money for them otherwise.

Gurman vs Poser the difference between a forum reading reporter and someone with real sources in the actual work of what’s to come.

Gurman states 14-MBP will mirror such changes as increased screen size and scissor-switch keys as seen on the 16”. What about processing power or Inter a mobile GPU?!

a “redesign “ of the iMac, 23” “sounds about right”?!? Really!!?
Bloomberg get rid of Gurman please. He’s just stating things verbatim from what we read here in the forums.

Of course Apple is taking AirTag, a cheap and low cost accessible way to keep track of things and costs pennies to manufacture and wrapping it in leather to make it a $49 price because Apple.

Sigh.

----

Not sure why anyone asked about an 8K AppleTV. Apple will probably be late to this party but with a device that is reliable and works better than whoever gets there first.

----

iMac rumors makes me hope they go 30 or 32" on the top-end iMac maybe bring 32" to iMac Pro first with a baby XDR panel and then bring a 32" non-XDR 6K to the iMac. It would allow them to streamline chassis / mold designs and still have 2 different product lines just at a larger size. I've had 27" iMacs jeez since like 2008 and they pretty much all look the same. I'd love it if apple did something radical with the now fully paid for XDR arm and do an iMac G4 throwback with a massive display. and no I don't want thinner I just want the iMac to evolve a bit. the design is still great compared to others but...

Here's my desk in 2009:

Here's my desk today:

I kind of wish it would have evolved a bit since then.

Kick Ass Sexy Set Up. (TM.)

You're 100% spot on with comment.

Frankly I wouldn't mind if the iMac went back to it's 2006 days when it was much thicker.

There's really no reason other than aesthetic for an all-in-one desktop to be so thin. The added depth means you could pack everything in there, plus remove the chin, and eliminate the thick bezels. The thermals will be better too.

Think 6K XDR type thick...but floating on a hinged stand.

You've sold it to me.

This sounds more like spitballing from Gurman. Heck any one of us could have made these predictions.

How is it spitballing when he actually has well connected sources? I think a lot of it will come true. Maybe not all this year, but eventually.

"substantial iMac refresh this year, with a possible redesign in the offing."

Man I'm so glad I decided to not buy the 2019 upgrade but instead wait until the next one.

I bought a 2019 model because my 2010 was just too old. Didn’t really want to wait. Will probably sell the 2019 this year or next and put it towards the redesign.

The iMac is certainly due for a redesign. But I wonder what that will entail? They can't make it much slimmer. They could possibly get rid of the chin and make it just a floating screen, basically a big iPad on a Magic Keyboard. They've got my attention; let's see what they can deliver.
I wouldn’t complain one bit if they made the back of the enclosure flat (or flatter than it is now), which could offer an opportunity to make the enclosure slightly thinner overall. The thin edges of the current design are more or less a gimmick (with notable drawbacks) and the bulged back feels out of place next to the rest of the lineup at this point.

And yes, the giant bezels and chin need to go. All I know is that my wallet’s ready for whenever Apple decides to ship a redesigned iMac to replace my 5-year-old 5K iMac, should the need arise. (Thankfully, as of now, it’s still running great, but the prospect of replacing my iMac after several years with one that looks absolutely no different at all feels silly.)

Mark Gurman is usually much much better with Software / macOS iOS leaks, his hardware side record are mostly reiterating what Ming have said. And my guess is that he at least tries to confirm with his sources to see if Xcode is real. ( It could also be his source has no idea )

Reading the story I kind of feeling a bit sad for Apple. It seems Apple has always intend 2020 to be a big year. Lots of launches, new product and refresh, but now a major setback because of COVID. The $399 iPhone SE should have been flying off the self, the new iPhone 12 Pro's new design should be so great, that along with 5G should kick off a super cycle. Lots of Mac related update to please its long time ignored fans, Apple Watch S6 rumoured to be new design, iPad.....

Even if the world is no longer in lock down by September, I doubt the economy would be as good to afford Apple's offering. And while I think Apple will still do extremely well, it just wont be the same again.

I don't get how they're going to enable sleep tracking on the Watch without some breakthrough in battery technology or long distance wireless power transmission. Is the idea that you'd take it off and charge it some time during the day?

An iMac resign would be great, I am looking to replace my late 2012 iMac. But I am more concerned it would come with 8gb or RAM I’ve default and no way to upgrade. I don’t want to pay Apple for the upgrade.

Crikey, another one of me. How many late 2012 iMacs are there out there waiting?

I echo your concerns re: 8 gigs of ram and have to pay Apple £200 for 8 gigs of ram. (Really, Apple?) I don't want to pay Apple for that cynical fleecing.

I like the idea of a new design but it looks ominous for Ram upgrading. Nowhere in Apple's line up is that easy to do short of going Mac Pro. (And buying one of those isn't easy. *looks at kidney.)

Doable then..?
