Something like this does make sense, but in the Magic Keyboard, not the Mouse. With the keyboard there is space to properly do the studio Mic setup from the MacBooks. Maybe they'll put two mics in they keyboard and one in the mouse for better noise reduction.

You can't use the built-in mics on a MacBook when it is being used in clamshell mode with a display that doesn't have a built-in web cam. This solves that. Also good for MacMini users in the same situation.

So the thing that you cup with your full-hand by design… that’s the thing that gets a microphone?

At least with a phone or TV remote you aren’t fully-covering it with your hand (the microphone is accessible). But a mouse? The top gets covered by your hand and the bottom gets covered by the desk/table.

This rumor seems quite silly. Except it’s not even a rumor. It’s very specifically not a rumor, lol. It’s basically just him saying the equivalent of: Wouldn’t it be cool if…

The placement of the microphones would not be the problem. The ridiculousness lies in Gurmans idea it would make sense in the first place.

Gurman is delulu AF. Sure, he’s got some little birds feeding him insider info, but he’s notoriously bad at connecting the dots and thinking like the company.
Maybe this is one of the situations where they feed 12 different rumors to 12 different people, to find out who is leaking information, and it turns out it's someone so unexpected that they had given that person the completely preposterous rumor.

This is, legitimately, the absolute weirdest and silliest speculation on the future of the magic mouse I have heard. I’d sooner believe they’d get rid of it for a gesture tracking device based on the AVP before this. A mouse is the worst place possible to stick a mic.

Has Gurman decided to take up hard drugs as a hobby? Maybe he heard his mouse speaking to him in a drug induced fever dream and then penned this…

An Apple Mouse one talks to? No thank you!

Seems to me that this would violate privacy up and down and backwards in any office or public scenario, and even home..... Why would you want to speak to your mouse to direct it to certain locations and have your office mates or everyone in the coffee shop or library or even your own household all hearing just what you are doing?

Aside from that there would also be ADA (disability accessibility) concerns regarding usability and such. Not everyone can speak or speak intelligibly. If Apple adds a microphone and speaking functions to a mouse they darned well better also ensure that people can still use it simply by typing, too!

"On the bottom we have the Magic Ball, which rolls around your table as you move the mouse. It also has a built in Magic Cable which connects to your computer meaning it never needs charging. We just know you're going to love it!"

I take it all back. After looking at the picture of Scotty addressing the mouse in Star trek ... Yes! Perfect sense and anticipated by our favorite Sci-Franchise.🍸🍸😹😹

Even when Gurman admits to having no sources this site still feels compelled to get his thoughts. Sorry but I don’t get it. If you’re trying to drive traffic to his newsletter then you should at least be honest about it.

Hey Mouse! Tell Siri to tell Home Pod to turn off the light in the bathroom and tell Siri on iPhone to stop playing music and call Mum and point to the Word icon and open said software. Tell Siri to stop its annoying backchat and turn that damned light off now and tell Siri on iPhone to go full AI and ask it if I need an umbrella today. Move that pointer now! Do you expect me to come and do it myself? Hey Siri, tell Mouse to move the pointer to open Word. And I said call Mum, not Mary.

Keep in mind how many Apple products rumored in the past few months "listen" to you. Let's be honest Saying it has Siri is just an excuse to always be listening. This is a stupid idea if it's true and only serves as more breach of privacy. The wheels are coming off at Apple.

does anyone else not think voice control sucks ? in cars and computers

1. you can't use voice control while having a conversation. it's so rude
2. Also why have any of these voice feed back things not figured out it's so rude to interrupt ? Can't they wait until you have stopped speaking to someone else in the room before announcing your latest amazon parcel wit XXL-DBL-DIL has been despatched?
3. Same with sat navs in cars. I always turn voice navigation off because it's so damn annoying.
4. or when other people are nearby it's not a private way to send data.
5. voice control never works first time, you always have to repeat. "Eleven!!"
6. it's so inefficient. Voice control makes a 0.5 second task take 10 seconds like turning volume up for example
7. Given apple track record with SIRI voice control jesus god help us if this is baked into a mouse. Hey Mouse, do <something> here are some websites I found for <something else>
8. We could rejoice in the fact that Apple have never made a mouse that doesn't suck so this one will be no different.

Apple will absolutely do this then brag about how they use the A/H/M chip to compensate for you covering your mouse with your hand while moving it around several feet to the left or right of your face.

An upcoming version of the Magic Mouse with voice control for AI would "make sense," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today, though he claimed that he has heard no rumors about the feature so far.

Magic-Mouse-3-Voice-Control-Feature.jpg

A report from Korean leaker "yeux1222" this morning suggested that Apple has created a prototype Magic Mouse that includes a mix of touch, voice controls, and hand gestures. Gurman said on social media that the functionality is logical in light of AI, but he also claimed that the rumor is "just an incorrect back-and-forth translation" of a line from a report that he shared earlier in December about a future Magic Mouse.

It's not clear whether the rumor from yeux1222 is based on Gurman's original report, but Gurman did clarify today that Apple plans to focus on a more ergonomic design and unspecified gestures with the refreshed mouse.

If voice control is included in the next Magic Mouse, it could be used for Apple Intelligence, with users perhaps able to summon Siri or perform specific actions using voice-based commands. Gurman claims that even if there isn't a clear use case in the near future due to Macs already supporting such voice-based features, there could be one in five to 10 years.

Adding voice control to the Magic Mouse could be done for future proofing given the long update cycle. So far, Apple has not frequently updated the Magic Mouse, and it has not received notable updates since the Magic Mouse 2 was introduced in 2019. In fact, Apple has only added new colors and swapped the Lightning port for a USB-C port.

Earlier this month, Gurman said that Apple is planning a "full overhaul" of the Magic Mouse, with a more modern design. He said that Apple will finally move the charging port from the bottom of the device to an easier to access location, but he did not mention voice controls or gesture support at the time.

Both Gurman and the information shared by yeux1222 suggest that the Magic Mouse will launch in 2026, and it is possible it will come alongside an OLED MacBook Pro, which is also rumored to launch that year.

Will it compete with Logi 3?, should I wait or should’n’t?

3. Same with sat navs in cars. I always turn voice navigation off because it's so damn annoying.
This especially! I hate getting into cab with a friend and can't have a conversation because the satnav barks out three or four orders at maximum volume at every junction interrupting everything anyone tries other say.

I sure hope Apple with add a camera and a speaker as well. Would make a perfect FaceTime companion. Add 5G and a screen and I’d drop my iPhone in no-time.
