I really dont like that they made the usb-c black Magic Mouse a silver underside, feels like purely manufacturing penny pinching and not an intentional design choice

Virtually any Logitech mouse is more ergonomic than a Magic Mouse. I use a Logitech M720 and it feels quite nice and fits my hand very well.
A brick is more ergonomic than the Apple Magic Mouse.

The Logitech makes YOU conform to IT. The scroll controls are in specific locations. With the Magic Mouse you can hold it multiple ways. Scroll it on multiple points on the surface.

An upcoming version of the Magic Mouse with voice control for AI would "make sense," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today, though he claimed that he has heard no rumors about the feature so far.

A report from Korean leaker "yeux1222" this morning suggested that Apple has created a prototype Magic Mouse that includes a mix of touch, voice controls, and hand gestures. Gurman said on social media that the functionality is logical in light of AI, but he also claimed that the rumor is "just an incorrect back-and-forth translation" of a line from a report that he shared earlier in December about a future Magic Mouse.

It's not clear whether the rumor from yeux1222 is based on Gurman's original report, but Gurman did clarify today that Apple plans to focus on a more ergonomic design and unspecified gestures with the refreshed mouse.

If voice control is included in the next Magic Mouse, it could be used for Apple Intelligence, with users perhaps able to summon Siri or perform specific actions using voice-based commands. Gurman claims that even if there isn't a clear use case in the near future due to Macs already supporting such voice-based features, there could be one in five to 10 years.

Adding voice control to the Magic Mouse could be done for future proofing given the long update cycle. So far, Apple has not frequently updated the Magic Mouse, and it has not received notable updates since the Magic Mouse 2 was introduced in 2019. In fact, Apple has only added new colors and swapped the Lightning port for a USB-C port.

Earlier this month, Gurman said that Apple is planning a "full overhaul" of the Magic Mouse, with a more modern design. He said that Apple will finally move the charging port from the bottom of the device to an easier to access location, but he did not mention voice controls or gesture support at the time.

Both Gurman and the information shared by yeux1222 suggest that the Magic Mouse will launch in 2026, and it is possible it will come alongside an OLED MacBook Pro, which is also rumored to launch that year.

Nothing can improve the Magic Mouse from Apple

Looks quite nice, BUT is not ergonomic, too flat like a flounder

Keeps your hand in tension

Cannot compete with Trackpad

One of the worst products developed by Apple

I'm assuming this will just be a programmable action button, as is found on many other mice, that triggers Siri by default. Better ergonomics and a relocated port will be significant improvements. I love the gesture controls, but it's literally the single redeeming quality of the Magic Mouse.

This is a lame idea. Non-starter for me. The mouse is fine the way it is, just put he usb-c port on the front and everyone would applaud. Some people don't mind using it with a cable, they just want the option.

Actually it makes sense to make the mouse a whole iPhone. The phone is the computer and the mouse. Turn your phone screen down onto a desk, plug it directly into a screen, use as mouse. All your user data with you wherever you go.

It's so stupid it makes sense that Apple's going to try something this wild. They got bold by adding the power button at the bottom of the Mac Mini. So I wouldn't put it past them to put a microphone on the mouse.

If true, then we're in for a long series of stupid decisions "that makes sense".

Ofcourse it's going to have AI, and nothing else new. And I am going to call it now, the charging port won't move.

Apple can make some amazing things, like the new Mac Mini. But can also be really braindead sometimes, like with the charging port of the mouse. Or the power button of the new Mac Mini.

The only use I could think of is if you move your mouse over something on the screen and then ask siri about it (hey siri, what is this building I’m pointing at? or hey siri, what does this word mean?)

Not expecting any voice control for the Magic mouse. It is not required to have voice based input too. Don't think this rumor will become true. The updated Magic accessories could be launched along with a bigger/Pro iMac

Sounds more like a quick button to activate the (hopefully improved) Siri, makes a lot more sense than an actual mic in the mouse itself.

Long story short

Expect more minuscule product refreshes in 2025
- Maybe we some more Apple Intelligence fails
- Circle to search won‘t be available on iPhones
- No foldable phone
- No iRing
- Nope, no TV (too late for this kind of stuff)
- No true watch refresh - Apple missed the 10th anniversary opportunity

Maybe this will be the year of Android, who knows? Had some days with the Pixel Pro and it feels nice and fresh - we won‘t see this kind of AI integration in iOS, at least not in 2025 and not with all the old and legacy (pre iP16pro) iPhones.

Makes sense. If you really can't make a mouse that isn't the worst pointing device in the world then you may as well at least make the best of a bad job by turning it into another surveillance node. I mean you can't have too many microphones festooning your environment in 2024 👍
