All desktop Macs: Mini, iMac, Studio and Pro
The iMac has built-in mics.
With the Mini, Studio and Pro, I'm sure Apple would prefer that you bought the Studio Display, which has built-in mics.
If your third-party display has a webcam, it'll have a mic.
If your third-party display doesn't have a webcam, the webcam you buy and plug in will have a mic.
If your workplace bans webcams because security then they should probably be banning mics as well...
If you use a headset, these days, it will probably have a mic.
Or, you could... you know... plug in a USB mic.

The "silly" thing is not having voice control - it's the idea of voice control being a feature of a mouse.

Maybe all this means is that there will be a "gesture" or some physical movement you make with the mouse in order to initiate voice control. Several people have already posted the Star Trek clip to show how this could work :)

This sounds stupid. The only way this make any sense is that Apple can't release a standalone microphone called the Magic Mic, without a legal battle... Actually fighting the Magic Mic battle makes MORE sense than this.

I'll tell you what would make great sense -- adding a TouchID button to the mouse. For people who prefer to use typing-friendly mechanical keyboards with their clamshell-configured MacBooks, macMinis, or Mac Studios, easy access to TouchID would be a huge convenience. But Apple probably won't do this, just as they missed the opportunity to gain much wider audience/support for the TouchBar by putting it on the Apple Keyboard and/or Magic Trackpad instead of having it only on laptop keyboards that are used in clamshell mode most of the time.

In what scenario would you need to use a mouse where there isn't a mic nearby? Laptops have mics built in – would this be for Mac minis?
You don’t get it. Just slip a mouse with mic in it into your pocket and you can access Siri when out and about. No computer needed, it’s just magic! Can’t innovate…

The placement of the microphones would not be the problem. The ridiculousness lies in Gurmans idea it would make sense in the first place.
Another rumor says it’ll get two little forward pointing parabolic mics in the front for stereo. Charging port will be moved from the bottom to the back.

An upcoming version of the Magic Mouse with voice control for AI would "make sense," Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said today, though he claimed that he has heard no rumors about the feature so far.

A report from Korean leaker "yeux1222" this morning suggested that Apple has created a prototype Magic Mouse that includes a mix of touch, voice controls, and hand gestures. Gurman said on social media that the functionality is logical in light of AI, but he also claimed that the rumor is "just an incorrect back-and-forth translation" of a line from a report that he shared earlier in December about a future Magic Mouse.

It's not clear whether the rumor from yeux1222 is based on Gurman's original report, but Gurman did clarify today that Apple plans to focus on a more ergonomic design and unspecified gestures with the refreshed mouse.

If voice control is included in the next Magic Mouse, it could be used for Apple Intelligence, with users perhaps able to summon Siri or perform specific actions using voice-based commands. Gurman claims that even if there isn't a clear use case in the near future due to Macs already supporting such voice-based features, there could be one in five to 10 years.

Adding voice control to the Magic Mouse could be done for future proofing given the long update cycle. So far, Apple has not frequently updated the Magic Mouse, and it has not received notable updates since the Magic Mouse 2 was introduced in 2019. In fact, Apple has only added new colors and swapped the Lightning port for a USB-C port.

Earlier this month, Gurman said that Apple is planning a "full overhaul" of the Magic Mouse, with a more modern design. He said that Apple will finally move the charging port from the bottom of the device to an easier to access location, but he did not mention voice controls or gesture support at the time.

Both Gurman and the information shared by yeux1222 suggest that the Magic Mouse will launch in 2026, and it is possible it will come alongside an OLED MacBook Pro, which is also rumored to launch that year.

If I was in charge of product design at Apple ID do away with the mouse... I like the trackpad and it is consistent with MacBooks. Why not introduce a new accessory -say a stylus that has Siri and gestures and works without the need of a multitouch screen (magic pencil/apple wand). This device could also work with multitouch and independent of other devices.

Apple Industrial Design Group hit me up for more ideas…

This is why you have to love Apple.

Customer Request: please fix the charging port location and make it more ergonomic

Apple: Here’s the Siri Mouse!

”Siri, how do I charge” - “please try again”

”Siri, how do I charge” - ”you flip it over”

* I think the wires got crossed on this rumor…but we shall see. There is a benefit to getting a mic onto the mouse for people with desktop setup and displays without them I suppose. And Apple pushing AI of course.

I love the Magic Moues actually, and would prefer if they just put Qi charging into the bottom of the mouse instead of worrying about port location. To me the port is more useful for pairing.

It would also be great if Apple can make device pairing similar to the AirPods and simple like that so you can use them across devices easily.

Touch ID would also be great.

This is completely nuts. Like, LOL what? Add a totally unnecessary additional input method to ... a specialized input device? So you'd talk into the mouse as a substitute to talking into the computer that is *right there next to the mouse that you're using?* Cram a bunch of extra expensive hardware that nobody would use?

The only way that apple is putting a microphone in a mouse is if they give the person who invented the touch bar a bunch of acid and then put him in charge of the whole project.

My question is : what has Apple been doing all this time? These are both products that should be out already.
