As you said, the lightning accessories are still perfectly functioning. So are the hundred of millions of lightning iPads, iPods and iPhones in circulation across the world. Nobody told you that you have to upgrade.
Persons using day-to-day any device with a Apple 30-pin connector must be in the hundreds by now.

Same will apply to anyone using Lightning devices by 2033.

Before 2040 will we see a replacement for USB-C that has more than 120Gbps?

I would not be surprised that by then there will be hundreds on MR or its successor site still using a M3 Mac released before April 2024.

Hopefully by that time macOS on iPhone will be a reality where in memory are in TB & storage in PB.

The cheapest iPad-equivalent would be using a sub-1nm chip that is measured in 0.2nm (A2).

For those who aren't in the know... leading edge die shrink is 3.0nm (N3) used by the A17 Pro.

Imagine replacing your device every 8-11 years later? Months after its final Security Update to the next hardware model after it.

Jump of raw performance will astonish anyone.

Not a big issue for me, but the Magic Mouse should be redesigned to have either wireless charging and/or a charging port at the front end allowing you to use the mouse (if you wish) while charging.
I imagine it'd be quite cool if the mouse and iMac came with magsafe and you can attach the mouse to the front/side panel of the iMac to charge.

In the market for a decent pair of over ears. Hope revised AirPods Max will be released soon. Then I can at least buy a different brand if they don’t live up to the hype.
The APM's are one of my favorite Apple products I've ever owned. Standalone lossless would be cool. Otherwise, I have no complaints.

By that logic we'd still be using this bad boy:

Nobody has to throw away their Lightning stuff immediately. I know I'm not. I'll be living with two cables for the foreseeable future as I continue to use my AirPods Max, Magic Keyboard, Apple TV remote, old iPad Mini, wife's iPhone 13. Actually I'll be living with more than two cables because I have a bluetooth speaker, ereader, and a few other little things that use a cursed little micro USB connector and yet continue to function just fine. Life goes on.
the UX improves substantially for the majority when going from 30pin to lightning, enough to warrant disposing about a billion or two cables.

the UX does not improve substantially for the majority when going from lightning to usb-c and does not warrant the need to dispose tens of billions of cables and lightning accessories.

As you said, the lightning accessories are still perfectly functioning. So are the hundred of millions of lightning iPads, iPods and iPhones in circulation across the world. Nobody told you that you have to upgrade. And if you care that much about the environment, it's better to not upgrade at all
sounds like switching to usb-c is actually more of an annoyance to most customers as they cannot use the same cable to charge their iPads/iPods/iPhones.

either that or encourages the disposal of their lighnting devices much earlier than expected which is even worse.

Hasn’t the EU decided, that all products must be sold with USB-C on EU territory starting 01.01.2024?
No. Not all products and not that date. New products of certain categories must by December 28, 2024.

So… in the 6 months or more, we might have a updated iMac. Lols
The speculation is that they are waiting for M3. The problem is that M3 is likely on the 3 nm process, which is going to be tied up with iPhone 15 pro production.

You likely can judge when the iMac will launch by if there is difficulty buying a 15 pro for xmas. If not, I'd say Jan-March timeframe.

why just M3 SoC...if we will get a larger imac we will get M3 Pro at least as an option
I think the larger imac it can be the only mac that can have M3/M3 pro and M3 Max in it
The SoCs jump 2x in processing power for 2x electricity given off as 2x heat. The higher end M1 model had to upgrade to dual fans. Does the current iMac have a design that allows for 2-4x the heat dissipation?

I will be praying to ALL THE GODS that the EU takes up the very important task of forcing Apple to change the charging port to ANYWHERE but the bottom of the mouse. 👾
Congrats. Due to regulations, it will now be in the front. ;)

They can buy an adapter so they wouldn’t have to throw away their lightning cables. And many people assume that they will just throw away their lightning cable, but as I said, we will need those cables for a few years still. They can get passed along to family members who are still with a lightning device

And you don’t even have to pay attention which end goes where (something is a little weird with the way that sounds when I say it aloud)
Yes, exactly. I was just charging my QuietComfort 45s off my MacBook Pro charger and it’s so convenient not to have to worry about pulling out different cables.

Hmm you don't have to do that with Lightning, either
I think they are referring to the fact that with a USB-C to USB-C cable, either ends of the cable can connect to the charging block or the phone. There is no such thing as Lightning to Lightning, so yes when you connect the Lightning cable you have to make sure the lightning connector is going to the phone. Minor annoyance, but this is not something you have to think about with USB-C to USB-C cables

I love the move to USB-C because now I can charge all my devices off one cable. How brilliant is that!
This is such a dumb thing to be excited about. I don't know about you, but I don't sit and charge my devices one at a time. So whether Lightning or USB-C...I still need the same number of cables. And actually, thanks to this change I actually have to add yet ANOTHER cable to my "collection" because my car doesn't have wireless CarPlay OR a USB-C port. As far as I'm concerned, this is a downgrade and yet another inconvenience caused by the EU. Causing inconvenience...it's what they do best!

Yes you do. One end is lightning and the other end is USB-A or USB-C
Well considering I'm talking specifically about the end that goes into the phone...no, it's not an issue. Do you really unplug your cables from the brick so often that having one end different is really that much of a problem for you...? Never once has that been an "issue" for me.

Fair point. But as I said I don't believe millions of people are going to throw away all of their lightning cables immediately, as there will continue to be need to charge other lightning-equipped devices still in use -- of where there are still many many millions.

Also important to remember that there is a continual flow of cables being discarded every single day just from being damaged and worn out.
