Also, in a screwed up way, i got MORE privileges... since i am a "hacker" i get to test the schools security, so my laptop is plugged into the wifi (with some weird app) so in a screwed up way, it helped....

Wait, wait, wait... your telling me that your school turns to you to see if their secure, because you once hacked their system?

Wow... That's kinda cool....

Most school systems, while they use the older, weaker WEP method, they also usually use mac filtering. Not saying that isn't possible to get around, but yet another road block.

It is, but i have to boot into a separate version of XP, with ALL their security stuff on it, so basically its a school computer, in my HD, and i don't get in trouble for hacking

The way they can do it legally is that the copy of XP is licensed to them, not me. (This also includes, not being able to add programs, and the ability for them to watch me)

and our school has macs (we had personal powerbooks for 2yrs, i went through 7 (various screen, and HD's)) so there is no mac filtering, but the macs have a separate wifi, which is easer to hack, but restricted with firewalls. the hidden one (which AP logger helped me find) is harder to get into, hidden, and has a fun password (but of course that didn't take long for me...)

i love Linux....

Just thinking aloud, not being illegal... If its just a cracker you need, wouldn't that be easy to port to the iPod/iPhone? It's not like its intensly graphical, and would take FOREVER to port... no?

Porting the cracker would be trivial, as all the libs are probably already available through Cydia.

On the other hand, trying to crack passwords is CPU-intensive, which means it's going to consume a lot of power, and empty your battery extremely quickly (I doubt the Touch would last much more than half an hour at that rate). Also, it would be much, much slower than using any kind of desktop/laptop.

I've gotten into my school connection, but I got lucky by guessing the password. But even though the iPod says it's connected, if I try anything it fails.

Also, how do they even know if you're using the connection?

Being associated with the access point means that your MAC address is registered on it. It's the wireless equivalent of plugging a network cable into the wall socket. This does not automatically give you a working network config (eg, IP address, gateway, and so on, which might be offered by a DHCP server).

Its almost impossible to hack WEPs, I tried it for ages, impossible, and also, if you can't connect to your school network, that means its not wireless, its hooked up, so you'll have to pull out the plug and then use it, and anyways, you can't hook up your Ipod using the cable, so there is no point really. I remembered at the start of school after last summer, we had this new system where we have to use macs for school, and to connect to the internet, you would have to get a form and fill it out and wait for a day, but since its been a while now, everyone figured out the password by going to join other network and then show password, anyways, but I'm sure if your school uses Windows or something, you could probably try to find the password, but as I said, if connection fails, that means no wireless. Although, if you had an Iphone, you could share Internet from Bluetooth from the computer and get internet I think. Good luck in hacking, make sure you don't get caught ;)

Same as hacking your ipod no ?!

No, it's completely different. Hacking the iPod is modifying something you own. Hacking into a wireless network is gaining access to a service without permission and is illegal. Not sure about the specifics in the US, but in here the UK, using someone's wireless network without permission (even if it's not protected) is likely to leave you with a criminal record for breaking the computer misuse act (see here for an example)

Loads of great hacking information

Wow PMB, man you sure know your ****... pretty elite man, pretty elite...

So tell me more about requiring a specialised distribution of Linux for WEP cracking, since you appear to love Linux so much. I am hanging on your every word.

your mom.
but really what dont you understand? the OS is owned by the school, making it theres, and subject to their policys, and their rules. but on my comp.

afaik hacking the ipod is against the EULA
right. and apple can't do anything about it, you just void your warranty.

That's ok it's always great to see a master at work. Tell me more about that WEP cracking distribution of Linux though.

tell me more about the "apple" wifi network thats easier to "hack"
edit: which of course didnt take you long xd

I had to spend some time reading up, not actually doing it.
Time is relatave.

Honestly? i just rely on tools provided by others, i am by no means into coding....

wireless networks dont have default passwords
Yes, but newbs set it as that most often.

I think this thread needs one of these ;)

im lucky, i live on 110 acres, so i dont have to worry about anyone leaching the wireless:D

If I were a teacher, I would suspect any ipod touch user could simply and discreetly google answers on a test I gave them. So- if students need internet, there should be dedicated spots to hardline into. Sure, you could google with an iphone, but whatever.

I must be getting older as I have just sided with the teachers

You know what, when you get a chance to use your schools laptops (if they even allow) try one time taking it to the technician and say that I can't get internet, disconnect first, and then before going to him, set up a keylogger, then after he fixes it, see what is logged, and just type it in to your Ipod ;), that could be one way, its just an idea by the way

I dont know about anyone elses school, but at mine, they take it away, and give you a new one, and you may never see the other one again (just somewhere else in the school)
