It’s sad to see just how negative the comments are here. With every product there are alternatives and they come with a series of pros and cons. Congrats to the Kino team on their launch, as a dev I know just how hard it is to ship. I hope your team finds success, and I’m looking forward to seeing where it fits in for me

Spot-on analysis. It's really embarrassing seeing people go out of their way behaving in such a manner. I guess it's all about the need for getting attention.

Mostly we are just a small team of 2 guys and we can think about localization once our apps are out. That being said, our resources are also super limited. We don't have big budgets, so we optimize for localization in our largest markets first. :)
Once you are ready, I am ready to make your apps look Ukrainian ;)

Ha, don't fall for it! Their camera app was a single purchase, then they added subscription later to get the features back you already paid for.
I bought Halide at $2.99 in 2017. I'm not expecting it to still work 7 years later with $0

Luckily they had a lifetime option purchase discounted for us. I don't mind paying more than $10 for lifetime. Just stop sucking me dry monthly is all I ask for.

I get that you don't expect it, but... it does! We made sure of that. That's why it is so odd to me that there's people here saying we did something bad when we do put up a prompt (once) that you can get new updates if you upgrade. That can be either a one time OR subscription, too!

And, our new app is paid-once. I hope we can keep most people happy. I know everyone is impossible, but we'll settle for most, and especially long time users and supporters :)

Nice for beginners to toy around. But no anamorphic desqueeze, no tentacle sync support, and baked in LUT's without unaltered LOG backup. It seems to me like a competitor for the REC video app at a cheaper price ( for now), but with a added - limited - LUT feature. I tested both and find the REC app more intuitive, it also lacks anamorphic desqueeze though.
The Blackmagic Cam is aimed at professionals or advanced users.

While it a v1, so we do miss some features, we totally let you shoot un-graded video with the LUT not baked in (toggle Instant Grade off), and you can even apply the grades later. So that means if you get footage out of BMC, Apple Camera, Final Cut Camera, etc. you can use the Kino LUTs and apply and share. Hope that helps :)

Must admit, I never do get the price discussions here, it’s important that developers make money, can make a living with their companies, otherwise the apps (and in the long run the ecosphere) dies. I do not want them to sell out to GAFA, I do not want them to quit, I do not want them to live by selling my data, I do not want advertising — so I pay, if I am happy to use the software and can afford it.

Kino advances the smooth UX design we‘re used to by Lux, you can work with the app instantly and intuitively. The only nag I have is that I haven’t found a way to manually set the autofocus point like in the standard Apple app & that it does not offer the tracking functionality of the cinematic mode of the Apple camera app (or as the Osmo Pocket does). Would love to see an option to set your own speed for autofocus shift. ND lenses on iPhone for 1/60 are mostly difficult (need a case etc), but the automatic 180° works okay-ish without. LUT-Import hopefully works / should work with 3rd-party luts (doesn’t seem that way regarding some posts here).

All in all it’s not the BM or Filmic-App but rather sits between these more professional applications and the system camera. The aim could be to offer the simplicity, fun and functionality of the Pocket3 with DJIs app in a better looking UI, make video fun (like Cinematic does) but with solid results. It’s not the worst idea, as Filmic feels like work and the baked-in Apple can does not offer enough options (good as it is). The most important things would be to optimize stabilization and AF/tracking.

Please don't let the negative reactions here get you down. Sadly, it's just the way it is here with people going out of their way to criticize something they know nothing about. It's a contest of sorts with a race to who can be the most negative about a product (especially Apple products). It's been that way for 20 years and it really gets tiring.

I wouldn't be surprised if 90% of posters don't know what ProRes Log is, how it works, why it's used, and why LUTs are useful - especially while shooting. A thought: for the general public, you might consider creating a paper or video about the subject.

Wishing you all the best going forward!
