$800. Yeesh.

Given the choice of paying an additional $800, I think I’d be opting for crazy glu and tape, so long as cameras could continue to work.

The response from Apple is relevant.

Cosmetic issues does not equate to any complimentary replacement by Apple.

Woven cases are another example of this.

We know which camp you stand with on this issue.
Yep I am in the camp that regards these devices as tools to be used not cosmetic works of art. I’m also in the camp that thinks cheap shots should at least be logical. Quoting random 19 year old statements doesn’t shed light on this current problem. Time will tell.

So for all the uninformed "clever" commentary here I would like to offer absolute irony. I just dropped my AVP from a 3 foot counter onto a slate hard floor with only the front cover on (water emergency was ongoing). So I restarted it expecting the worse and guess what: no crack on the glass, no damage to any sensor or component and everything works.

So I did an unplanned drop test. If this was a fragile "stress point" I highly doubt I would have survived without the crack. It's more likely heat and/or manufacturing defect that is showing itself.

Edit: I have been using mine for 2-3 hours a day as a "use case" test so I would say I am not in the heavy use category, but in the medium use one.

Just sharing a quick, slightly educated, opinion.

I have seen over a long period of time (15+ years) repairing and working on technology that stress cracks occur. Like the ones appearing on these few AVPs that have been reported.

Most often these cracks occur when a display is attached to a metal that swells when heated and contracts as it cools.

NOW!!! Here is what will hopefully be a positive observation. These cracks that I have seen over the years on multiple devices from many manufacturers are, roughly 98% due to manufacturing defect and not design.

What I mean by that is. During some of the manufacturing runs of the devices that experienced the pressure/stress cracks there was an error. To much of or incorrect placement of the adhesive occurred. This caused undue pressure/stress to parts of the glass that was not made to handle it.

The reason this is a positive observation. If this is what is occurring. It is a VERY simple fix. You trace the serial number of the devices that had the cracks occur to the build lot. Find the assembly line(s) inspect the equipment/humans that were putting them together and determine the cause. Then fix it.

So… Here's to hoping =)

edit: I am not saying that this IS the issue. Just an opinion from the current amount of information that has been offered. A very small number of reports of a crack occurring on the front glass. No other scientific or investigative information has yet to be presented.

The other part I can confirm is that I have had my Vision Pro since launch day. I have used it no less than 2 hours a day (most days it has been 5-7 I have added it in my work flow). It has heated up during use (I usually have 5-6 apps running). My display is totally fine. I don't cool it down when I am done using it. I put the cover on and put it in the case.

This review puts the AVP into perspective compared to other headsets available, as well as those not available to the general public…
Posting here because there seems to be a lot of ignorance about the AVP. It’s an attempt to educate people and encourage people to view the AVO from a different perspective…

👍🏻👍🏻 for

Thanks for the link to this review! It has to be the most well thought out and intelligent comparison of the Vision Pro and the rest of the AR/VR industry.

Unpopular opinion but this why you should always wait for second or third gen, especially at that price!
I wouldn't be surprised if there never is a 2nd generation of this ridiculous thing. Especially at the eye-watering price that they demand for it. Every so often, Apple launches a product that they just shouldn't have bothered with. I think this is one.

They were beaten back by the far more vocal and vicious nothing to say nice group :)

Could not agree more. Been consistent in saying that.

This is literally days old. There is bound to be some confusion with the first few cases that come in, or do you think the front line employee that gets the first case should automatically declare a state of emergency and there is a design or manufacturing flaw? because right now all we have is anecdotal evidence of a handful of cases and what some frontline employee does.

This is a corporate Apple evaluation/decision issue. Before we denounce corporate Apple let's give them time to collect more data, determine a cause (and they will), and then decide what to do. This is not life or death, so they will take some time.

In the meantime, I am glad I have AppleCare + and if this happens to me I will have to remind myself I said 'be patient.' I will be following this closely and take whatever preventative measures I can. I will be careful about over tightening, and will be careful to let it cool before putting on the cover. But frankly, I have already been doing this.
Way too much common sense here for this drive thru, instant gratification demanding group here. Automobiles which cost substantially more than VP are always being recalled for problems concerning low technology tech (i.e. transmissions). VP is arguably a high tech device and there will be teathing problems. Chill people.

Apple : it’s just cosmetical.
So was the macbook “staingate”. But they kept replacing the affected displays nonetheless. I give it 6 months tops before they’ll introduce a repair program, even if just an internal one. That said, you’d be suprised how many of these apple’s got quietly running to address issues that they don’t want to publicly admit happening…

It's a bad look for Apple. The reports have become prolific in the last few days. Same kind of hairline crack in the same place. It's a really bad thing that Apple isn't immediately taking these back and replacing them (since there's no sign of impact on 99% of these). Also, even though it costs $100 more to do it this way, you're better off paying the $25/mo for AppleCare Plus rather than paying upfront. I have my doubts that many people will keep this a full two years before pawning it off to someone else via eBay, Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. Pay only for the coverage you're going to use. I returned mine after just a day of use, after realizing that it's way too cumbersome for any form of productivity, and that I can't just leave the house and be seen in public moments after taking it off, with the red ring surrounding my face for 2 hours after wearing it.

A precise, uniform crack like that does scream out manufacturing defect.
Worse yet it, could be a design defect.

Yep, for $3500 Apple should have some sort of basic quality check but they clearly don't.
On top of that, it will cost $800 to repair, a total of $4300. But Apple, who would pay that?

More precisely, who could afford to pay that much? Does Apple believe all their customers are billionaires?
