That feature has been turned off during beta testing, and will be enabled with a future iOS 8 release in October. That is from Apple and the release notes for Yosemite DP 8.
I knew sms relay was turned off but i thought handoff was still supposed to work. It's weird that it half works for messages though.

I got handoff to work but it doesn't really work with the messages app. The option appears to handoff but the text I was composing on one device doesn't appear on the other device. It just brings up the person I was messaging but it's blank. Anyone else experiencing this?

same with me

Handing off webpages and pictures from iPhone to iPad or Mac works. I can do it with my phone and iPad Air. I can send and receive calls on all three devices. What i can no longer do, is the SMS relay, which isn't a big deal.

I am not using the beta.

If you are not using Yosemite DP or PB, you won't be able to use any of the enabled features of Yosemite and iOS 8.

Handoff works for me on my 2013 MBAir and iPad Air for the most part. The most frustrating part for me at this point is when I hand a message off, it doesn't hand off what I've actually typed on the device I'm switching from. It just takes me to the thread I was typing in, but with a blank text field so I have to start from scratch.

Anyone else?

Just read that the iPad 3 is not going to support handoff.

Just read that too which is lame because doesn't the iPad 3 have bluetooth le? I guess Apple is trying to make me upgrade by not supporting what I consider one of ios 8 most attractive features.

Same behavior here.

I don't recall them saying that in at the WWDC keynote.

Handoff for things like mail and Safari works fine for me. But I can't make cellular calls on my iPad. Says I need to have the same iCloud account logged in on my iPhone (which I do). Anyone else having issues with this?

sucks if the 3 doesn't support it.

Supposed to be able to do ipad and iphone handoff now.

3rd one doesn´t support it. Something about it having the right BT, but wrong Wifi chip.
Maybe with a jailbroken one, someone could enable it like AirDrop?

Edit: Didn´t see you posted again.

Ohhhhhhh. Because I was sure wondering why it's not working. LOL

Yes, I too found this out this morning. Handoff does not work on the public beta of Yosemite. Guess we'll be waiting until October for those features and SMS continuity!

I can confirm that Handoff does indeed work with Yosemite public beta. I was just sat here and my phone and iPad reacted to what I was doing on my MacBook(!!). It was seemingly triggered by disconnecting from Wifi on my MacBook Pro and reconnecting. Seems to be working pretty reliably now. Awesome!

Sweet! I'm gonna check again when I get home.

I was a bit confused about what Continuity was using: Bluetooth, no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi + same network, no Wi-Fi…

So I tried all the combinations, and made a short video to explain it.

I see some people saying they go to the right app, but the text is not transferred, like it should be in Mail for example. For this, Bluetooth is not enough, Wi-Fi is also required (although the two devices don't need to be on a common network).

Were you able to get handoff to work with keynote, numbers, or pages?

Great video!

Help

I can't get Handoff to work.

I have a 5S and an iPad Mini (both compatible).

Both on Wifi. I have turned on BT and still no joy.

I expect there will be an iOS 8 1.01 update very soon.

Just waiting for the SIM to become active on my new iPhone 6, when I got a call on my 5.
So my MBA, iPad and both phones all started to ring.

This was very strange

Those of you unable to get handoff working in Mail for example, you need to keep your partly composed email OPEN for it to handoff to your next device.

If you part-compose an email and then return to the homescreen it will not handoff to your other device.

To enable handoff you may need to turn it off and on in settings too.
