Regardless of what everyone else is saying, I really like the look of this, especially with the leather and metal straps, and I also really like the home UI, maybe because it kind of reminds me of this: https://www.ableton.com/en/live/new-in-9/

AAPL was down 0.4% today while the NASDAQ was down more than twice as much. In fact AAPL hit an all-time high a full week ago. It has fallen about 5% since then, all of this long before today's product announcements.

----------

Not true in the least.

Sorry.. Nearly every single one of them. It has nothing at all to do with what was announced. That is just not how the stock market works.

For rich people such as your self sure. But for the rest of us $350 is a lot of money.

That's the normal price to fill up an SUV, and there's no shortage of those amongst "poor" people. Mine just happens to be a sedan & requires premium.

really curious to see the watch in person. On the engadget video looks like a toy and I am not sure I like it. The high res photos look nicer.

Damn, not sure I am replacing my Omega anytime soon. Sorry Apple but while I do love the tech and and I impressed on some level, not sure I am jumping on it this soon.

IDK, the only benefit to the second gen iPhone was that it had 3G mobile internet. I guess you can add that AT&T subsidized it too. Other than that it was basically the same product.

And had a much ******** back.

Maybe the second gen Apple Watch will be made of easily scratchable nasty black plastic with an impractical shape.

Can't remember the last time AAPL was higher than before after a keynote though. Can you? Maybe the original iPhone announcement.

And the iPad, IIRC. Not that what the stock does in the heat of any given moment is even remotely significant, short of some overwhelmingly great news or catastrophe. A lot of people are fond of saying that AAPL "always" goes up right before and down right after new product announcements. The reality is a lot more complicated. I mean, just look at the past week. Most people looking at the stock today probably don't even know that it is down 5% in the last week.

The watch is okay. It's the best smart watch out (or it will be) but still probably not enough for me to buy one. I think the circular face looks better.

Well today it went up 3$ before the announcement in 12 hours and then fall back down. But of course, it doesn't really mean anything, it's just quite typical that it's down after the keynotes, at least lately.

Not even that. This is the wrong thing to be looking at anyhow.

But as you say, none of this means anything, really.

The Apple Watch is not geared for most nerds. People need to think out of the box and not compare it to the Android Wear and the Moto 360.
It is a fashion piece and I seriously think it succeeds.
Anyone who reads my posts knows I'm not a fan wearables; devoting my time to my Swiss watches.

Style, taste are highly subjective and personal. You are not going to please everyone but the thing that strikes me the most about the iWatch is the build quality.

Build wise, it is leagues and shoulders above all the wearables on the market.

It uses 316L steel found in Omegas, Breitlings, Panerais and high end Swiss watches.
Both the Samsung and LG uses 304. I assume the Moto360 as well.
Secondly, it has sapphire and a ceramic back. These are hallmarks of high quality materials and if you carefully look at the details, the attention is there.

The raised sapphire, the chamfering and curve on the crystal is top notch. I am very impressed with the detailing. All of this equates to premium product no matter how much you or I despise the general girly unisex design.

This is definitely a fashion watch and the $350 price point warrants it. This will be popular with the women. Square/rectangle/circle, people need to look at the Jaeger-LeCoutres and the rectangle Cartiers Santos to know this appeals to women.

Also the bracelet selection is really top notch. Just look at SS matte grain on the bracelet. That is very, very, very good.

Apple poached a bunch of luxury execs and I can see this dominating the $600-$1200 mall watches - Movado, Cartier Santos and the likes. Just look at the gold on red strap. It is impressive looking on a woman.

It is certainly completely irrelevant and meaningless. In fact, fluctuations in the stock price are always essentially irrelevant..

Are you guys for real? Have you ever held an actual (lets put the bar super low, $400) nice watch in your lives? There's a lot of things that make a luxury watch besides having a round face and a dial around it. In every single photo besides the highly post-processed one with the metal band, the Moto360 looks like a piece of junk someone buys from the jewelry counter at Walmart.

The Apple Watch is never going to look exactly like a Tag or Omega, much less a Rolex or Ulysse Nardin. No smart-watch ever will. This brings me to the most important part, which isn't features or anything of that sort.

It's a digital computer that sufficiently resembles a luxury watch:

http://cdn1.vox-cdn.com/entry_photo_images/10679416/iwatch3002_verge_super_wide.jpg

That's not a professional photo. That's taken from the pavilion after the keynote.

Now, I personally don't want one because I don't need one and I don't feel it would add sufficient utility to my life at the moment. But as young attorney who has to regularly dress professionally, I'd have no problem pairing that watch with a suit.

Smart-watches will eventually become commonplace. If for no other reason than the health benefits. Today, Apple has presented a product that you never knew you needed in a package that you will actually use (read: digital crown). I'm taking a leap of faith in the company but I will bet you that once you use it for a sufficient amount time, you'll forget you ever lived without it.

The same as every other product they've ever released, when they get you to put it on in an Apple store it's going to bug you until you have one. That's the genius of their company. The adoption might not be as fast as some fanboys will preach, but it is coming. By the third iteration Apple will be selling these things like iPads. This one is just the start.

And that is why Samsung and Motorola are shaking in their boots. Everything they've come up with so far is worthless. No one who sets any trend wants to use their products. Those smart-watches are by definition, pure, trashy novelty.

Apple just changed the game. I'm excited to see what they do with the Apple Watch.

Hopefully mechanical watches will go the way of the typewriter, rotary telephone, steam engine, and roller blades.

Sorry guys, but those Tag Heuers and Omegas are dinosaurs. *Places ETA 2892 automatic gently back in casket-like case, RIP*

moto 360 also has wireless induction charging and a actual better housing than that rubber sports apple watch.

Genuine leather, real metal housing,. better and actual innovation design.
better form factor. better research. better OS. more features.

Um, that rubber band is only one version of the watch. The classic version sports metal and leather bands and the edition version offers yellow and rose gold.

I feel like I should delete my post, you beat me to it. THANK YOU.

I didn't think of that, but I think you are right when you say it will be huge with women. It's a very effeminate looking watch, it looks more like a piece of jewelry than a watch. Otherwise I don't care so much what materials they used if it's still a fugly watch, but your point is taken.

Um, the Santos starts at $3k for a decent model. This may compete in the lower-end luxury category such as Tag Heuer's. I'll stick with my Rolex GMT Master II Black and Blue and Black and Red and Breitling.
