I'm always impressed by how many MR readers have managed sufficient hands-on time with unreleased apple products to excoriate fit, finish, and performance.
I thought it looked great in the keynote. Much better than many mockups. And these early reviews are very positive! The crown is a surprise analog feature.
I'll come back later for the thoughtful "if you like this, you must be a teenage girl and/or love all that is ugly" replies.
But, having gotten to wear and play with the device, one thing is for certain: The Apple Watch is a beautifully designed piece of technology with enormous potential. In fact, Id say its the most exciting gadget since the iPad, from Apple or any other company.
The watch will come in two sizes, 1.5 inches (38 mm) and 1.65 inches (42 mm), and a surprisingly wide variety of colors and styles. Both sizes feel surprisingly light and solid. An Apple representative would not say how much the watch weighs exactly, but it seems lighter than Samsungs Gear, which is about 60 grams.
It sits on the wrist very naturally. I have what might be called dainty wrists for a man, and even the larger version didnt feel bulky. Unlike smartwatches currently on the market, it does not feel overly showy or intrusive, constantly begging for your attention. You could easily forget you are wearing the Apple Watch, and you will.
The Apple Watchs sapphire touchscreen is slightly curved, which makes the device look more like a piece of jewelry. The screen, which was crisp and viewable from a wide range of angles, is flush with the rest of the devices body. It attracts a lot of finger prints and smudges.
Apple has a custom processor, induction charging a much more premium housing and lot more things going on this watch. So...
moto 360 also has wireless induction charging and a actual better housing than that rubber sports apple watch.
Genuine leather, real metal housing,. better and actual innovation design.
better form factor. better research. better OS. more features.
OK, here's my question: does it need a phone to work at all.
Or can you use it by itself and it's just some functions that won't work?
With a TI processor from 2010. I wonder if anyone extolling the Moto 360 has actually tried to use one? Ars totally dumped on it. Terrible performance and terrible battery life on an ancient SoC. Form over function 100% from Moto on that one.
Apple Watch - Meh!
I hope that with version 2 they will do a version which ditches the screen and the "Digital Crown" and just gives me the health monitoring sensors and "Taptic feedback". Coz that's all I need this thing to do! All of the other things it does are much easier to do with the iPhone, which by the way, you need as well.
As others have said before - this is a solution looking for a problem and that is not what Apple is supposed to provide!
The other thing I noticed is its not left handed friendly. As a left hander I'm offended lol
You can use it on its own but many functions don't work.

Terrible performance? lol says the guy who never used one.
All the reviews speak of an amazing performance and experience.
Only the battery life being a letdown. But onto the battery life.
Terrible? Oh i wonder why apple hasn't released their battery specs.
Yeah that's right.
OK, then I just may get one because I thought it needed a phone just to work period.
But then, on it's own, how would you shop apps for it?
I expected the phones would be predictable and incremental. But I'm disappointed in the smart watch. I had high hopes that this would be more innovative, especially after the hype. Right now (albeit without seeing either in person) I would probably take the LG watch in a heartbeat. Sucks.
We'll know more about what works and what doesn't without a phone ....
