I also thought they were dings at first, but looking at the videos clearly show that it's a very small chamfered edge surrounding the display that reflects all of the ceilling lights of the demo area

Back when I was a working photographer, I did a book for my employer on watches. I was able to photograph some extremely rare pieces, and was able to spend time in some watchmakers workshop, and got to hang out with a Rolex technician while he calibrated some classics. I kind of caught watch fever from that and kept wondering when I would spend a pile of money on a watch. But the Ultra is the first Apple watch that makes me feel like I'm finally getting the watch I want.

Be careful. watch fever is an incurable disease requiring frequent treatment. I caught it while working in Switzerland. Had it ever since. My Ultra is the latest booster.

Anyone seen any pics of this watch with a standard (45mm) sport band?

I'm tempted but I'll be wanting to use my collection of sport bands with it.

Nicks already? How tough is it supposed to be?

Apple tends to ignore how badly their products scratch, and how easily all those edges get nicks.

Ceramic Shield does help, but notice how they only ever say “shatter” or “break” and never “scratch.”

I can live with slight nicks as long as the display stays perfect. I though the sapphire display was going to be used more widely and I hope all models have it next year.

I don’t think that’s possible until they actually arrive to consumers. But I have a feeling it’s going to look kind of like a balloon on a string.

This size would be great for me. being 2m tall and with large wrists, looks good. I am just not excited about paying $300 more than the standard wi-fi AW. Maybe wait a few months and see what promos will come by maybe slashing $100 from it or something.
Pre-ordered the AW Ultra for $720… Veteran’s discount 😉

Hmm, it's not as bad looking as I thought, it's still kind of bordering on ugly though with that tank track look to the crown protector, and those antennas are super fugly. What's with the finish? It doesn't look as nice as the Pro Ti look, maybe it's just the lighting but it looks like a dull grey coat of Home Depot primer. Man this would have looked decent in brushed SS, sigh.

Loving the flat screen and small bezels though, although the lip looks ugly and looks like it's already scratched/dinged up in the picture. $799 is much better than the anticipated $1k, but still a lot more expensive than competitors. Any news on battery life yet?

Edit: 36 hours battery life ?!? Wow that's bad, makes me feel better about my Samsung Watch Pro 5 LTE which lasts me over 3 days, almost 4 sometimes with 75% brightness and AOD on. Apple's patting themselves on the back for actually getting more than 24 hours out of a watch.

Edit 2: Looking at more pictures and that bezel seems way too thick with the addition of the lip, it really needs to be right to the lip and hide the bezel underneath the lip. Cue the "but I need something for my hands to grab onto" crown...
I’d venture to guess those are scratches… I have the AW series 7 and it has scratches all over the casing… still very happy with the weight and overall durability although aesthetically it patinas.

Not scratches. the original poster on twitter even mentioned hes getting lots of questions asking if it scratches and he clarifies that its just reflections.

I also have an AW Ti and am pretty rough w it in terms of workouts etc. And have no scratches or dents at all. So I dont doubt the AW Ultra will hold up just as well if not better.

Yep, my AW Ti scratched very very easily. From research it seems it's actually the coating that scratches, but it's the same effect, the watch gets pretty ugly quickly.

This actually wipes off. Check out Youtube. If you use the sponge used for cleaning dishes, but the green part only. Wipe the area with those coating scuffs and they should remove them. It will look like brand new again.
