All you folks talking about the market being small for large watches obviously DO NOT keep up with current luxury watch trends. The norm for the newer lux male watches is around 47mm. Even stodgy old Rolex offers that size in the Sea Dweller Deap Sea. Panerai is another. Lots and lots of others out there doing the same.

I dont care either way except for the fact that I own a ton of aapl stock. But I dont care what watch people wear. I'm just saying large watches are more normal than you think.
True. Though unlike the giant bling watches you often see, this category is "extreme" sports, and of course sports watches, especially diving watches, are usually quite big. And for your APL's sake, hope they sell a ton. :)

I'm annoyed that there is no more Watch Edition. I love the Ti - it's lighter than the SS, less prone to scratching, and weighs less. I don't need this chunky beast of an exercise watch though.

Still, my Series 5 is still going strong. There haven't been enough new features in later versions to convince me to upgrade. Maybe the sleep tracking?
I thought the new sleep tracking will come with watchOS 9 and is not limited to the Apple Watch Series 8. Hopefully. I’m annoyed that car crash detection is only available on the Series 8, it’s such a useful feature!

This must be the first time that the price ($799) equaled EXACTLY what I was thinking it should cost during the presentation!

$799 is perfect price. Good job 👍

Seeing the roll out (and knowing Apple) I expected it to be $1K. Surprised actually.

As a hiker and casual/amateur backpacker, I think this will be a hit among the specific backpacking crowd that wants to go on multi-day treks, have a lifeline of connection when they *are* in cell tower range, and already packs a solar panel+battery combo in their kit. This is smaller than a lot of other devices it will substitute for, all very important to some of the ultralight fanatics out on the trail.

The price is just 50 dollars more than a stainless steel version. Honestly surprised that it wasn't the rumored 1000 dollar price. While I am not in the watch target demographics it is appealing to me. I hope that for version 9 of the Apple Watch, we get some of the ultra features and maybe a slight redesign.

I already ordered one for diving until I read that a subscription for the 3rd party app Oceanic+ is required. I cannot understand why Apple has not build in the dive functionality themself and forward to a 3rd party app. A subscription in this case is an absolutely no go for me - life underwater should not rely on a subscription. After I realized that I canceled the order and bought a conventional diving computer.

I’ve changed my mind on Apple designs in the past, but I’ll eat my shoe if I ever change my mind about this. Talk about uuuglyy.

Exactly! I thought $999 before the keynote. But once I saw the features and hideousness I thought “I’d pay $799 for that”

But I was still surprised as you were, since yes, Apple. Haha.

But it’s kind of genius pricing since it’s STILL 800 bucks for a watch, but if you’re into extreme outdoor things or long distance running it’s a good “investment”.

I’m not sure I’d trust it with deep scuba diving though… but if there’s shallow scuba diving then I’d trust it since it’s not a lot of jet water and it’s just pressure. So like reef diving…

I used to scuba dive for a few years back in the 80's and I got the sense that anyone serious about the sport wanted something fully tried and true. Equipment failure when diving deep can be catastrophic. Apple coming along and making a dive watch? I bet lotsa folks will pass, at least for a while.

Rip-off comes to other countries. We have to pay 999€… Bit irritating really.
Wow. VAT tax? Just checked the euro vs the dollar. They're about equal. On my last trip to Germany (albeit 12 years ago) the Euro was killing us yankee tourists.

I think the strength of the dollar is exactly why the phone price didn't go up. And yeah, 23% VAT on top explains the difference. Plus the differential warranty requirements in some countries as well (nothing is free).

Another season of Apple Studios' Scratchgate starts in less than 16 days. Prepare the popcorn, brothers and sisters, for this is gonna get wild.
