nope. billions of functional lightning cables exist in the world today. environmentally friendly would be to use them as much as possible instead of accelerating the death of it.
They aren’t going away on their own. By your logic we will be stuck with Lightning forever.

I’ll never understand this question. Other than making it thicker to allow for a larger battery, lens rearrangement that might allow for everything to be flush, what needs to be changed?

We’ve had round edges, to square, back to round and then square again. Should they try octagonal or triangle edges? Maybe a triangular phone.

Technology with better cameras make for massive bumps. Make the phone super thick and everyone will call it a cinder block instead of just a brick.

Design is fine. JMO. 👊😃👍
Perhaps he would prefer the Battlestar Galactica design approach? Rounded corners? What the Frack is a corner?

Is there anyone actually excited about these phones? I mean there really isn’t much to do for form factor other than folding, the iPhones have essentially remained unchanged since the X other than camera placement and size. USB-C will be nice, but I am beginning to wonder if I am gonna upgrade this year after all.
It is a product in a mature market. Why would anyone expect an exciting announcement?

Well I'm still on the X and it's showing it's age plus it's LTE and not 5G. I'll be upgrading to the 15Pro or 15ProMax.
Plan to buy it from Apple and pay it in full. If the 16 next year has a decent enough jump in new features.
I'll trade the 15 into Apple and get the 16 but after than I'll keep it for years.
I don't see the point in constantly upgrading anymore

Huh? The lightning is a big environmental l disaster have to carry around so many cables etc. I'll be so glad when everything is USB-C
The problem is, just as everything switches over to USB-C, what’s going to happen? USB-D, or probably more like, USB-C part 2 gen 3 8x8 extra speed, with a whole new connector, not backwards compatible at all!

Hmm, looks nearly identical to the 14 series. The edges are barely even rounded. The biggest difference I guess will be from the bezels and titanium.

I wish Apple would’ve gone for more rounded edges on the back side of the device, and I’m ready for a camera layout redesign. The “stove top” is getting pretty tired at this point. But I also don’t know what design they could replace it with that hasn’t already been done on Android. I am a pretty big fan of the Pixel 6 all black horizontal bar though.
Many of us consider our iPhones as tools rather than as some cutesy eye candy. I am of a different camp that says do not change the layout of my tool just for purposes of "the look." Yes continue to change when absolutely necessary for newer tech function, but not for "look."

There is no need to be patronizing and judgmental (“cutesy eye candy”) just because you don’t agree with my opinion. Your post reads very “pick me.” If your iPhone is just a tool and a design change doesn’t ruin the functionality at all, then it shouldn’t matter to you if the looks change then, no?

Also, the main reason I want rounder edges on the back of the device is functionality: to make it more comfortable to hold. And while functionality is not my main motivation for wanting a camera layout design change, the stovetop camera design is getting so large that my fingers often got in the way when taking pictures on my 13 Pro because there isn’t a lot of space left to place my fingers. Fortunately, this isn’t as much of an issue on the Pro Max models.

Yeah that’s why Apple chose USB-C for their iPads and their Macs while keeping iPhones and AirPod cases on lighting.
Because of the environment.

🤷🏻‍♂️

iPads and Macs needed functionality lightning couldn't provide for most customers.

most customers just need lightning to charge for iPhone/AirPods/Keyboards/Mice/Trackpads/MagSafe battery/MagSafe Duo/Apple TV remote (which made the switch to USB-C BECAUSE EU forced them).

don't know what your argument is. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t be sorry!

Yes, it is really mine. I took this photo yesterday after the article was posted. I use it daily on my backup iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’m not sure how it became so frayed. I do pull the cable gently (grabbing by the head first but the wire itself). I also don’t have any pets. Lastly, it was never caught under a table or table wheels. Honestly, it’s just the quality of the cable Apple makes. Maybe they want us to keep buying them frequently. I will say it does work just fine.
Give that cord some tape otherwise something bad can happen. Electronic tape is best, but it works with sport tape too. I also have these shi*tty lightening-cords and they so totally suc*k.
With Apple's wealth they can't even give us good cords to their expensive products.

Must say that it probably goes for iPhones' and iPad's - the cords I got with my MacStudio and ASD was excellent quality. Don't know how it is with other Mac's today, but generally the USB-cords are much better then the bad lightning-cords, at least.

There is no problem.

USB-C is only a port shape, and it’s already seen significant data and charging speed improvements while still being forwards and backwards compatible. The MacBook Pros are capable of Thunderbolt 4 and 100W charging, but you can still plug a USB2.0 cable in for your iPhone. But should USB-D prove to be a superior port shape, the EU will mandate that be the common standard.
