This might be a dumb question, can some one explain me the difference and further more benefit of a wider rather than taller screen?

1. 16:9 aspect ratio, which is the most common aspect ratio for videos nowadays.

2. Wider (when holding vertically) => harder to hold. Taller => still fits in hand the same way.

3. Maybe the components fit in better? Making it wider might end up wasting space on the bottom. I'm not sure about this.

I knew someone was gonna say something on that. I know it's two toned, but the new iPhone would look better than having that damn other color on the top part where the camera is. I'll have to skin the phone if this is what we'll get.

Which do you like:

Or

Seems the white one is acceptable for me.
2-tone is not very serious if it is not too eye-catching:apple:

The most serious problem I am thinking is what bumper or case I need on it.
I am using a metal bumper on my 4s and the signal receiving is very terrible.
(I can't escape with it because I always fall my phone on the floor:(The bumper is very effective:cool:)

Well let see what we can get from the invites

If I'm not mistaken the press will get the invites in the next 2 days :apple:

The risks of getting first to market or being available at launch day is worth the risks these companies take based on loose information. They win huge if they can get the case dialled in 99% accurately and have it fit "pretty dang close" to perfect with the major key elements lining up such as the headphone jack, where the dock connector will be, where the switches and volume nobs will be, etc.. If they missed the mark and their cases don't fit, they throw them away. The risk of $50,000 for the potential of $500,000+ if it all works out is worth it for these companies.

The risk of not having a case at launch time can be devastating to these companies.

I dunno... does anyone remember the first case ever made for the iPhone 4 launch way back in 2010? Probably not.

There have been TONS of cases since then... and they've all overshadowed and outsold that very first case.

I understand the "first-to-market" strategy... but I also know this next iPhone will remain on sale for the next YEAR or TWO. That's plenty of time for the manufacturers to sell their cases.

I don't think it will be devastating if they don't have a case on September 21st.

However... if they are wrong about the dimensions of the next iPhone... and they have to start over... then they will be in the same situation as the manufacturers who waited.

And again... they will all be making cases for the next year or two anyway. It's not like they are only allowed to sell cases at launch. The case manufacturers will make more money over the life of the iPhone... rather than the launch weekend.

You're right though... it's not a lot of money to gamble... and there is a slight chance these cases will fit the next iPhone perfectly. But aren't the cases in question the "cheap" cases from the no-name companies?

I'm pretty sure OtterBox won't have a case on sale September 21st without doing extensive testing with an actual shipping iPhone.

A lot of people dislike the Apple Bumper but I've used it on the 4 and 4S and after a couple falls with each phone, I've never cracked the glass. There may have been some luck involved but I hope they make one for the new phone. I'll buy it. And the signal is great, BTW.

I think it looks fantastic. The unibody construction will make it slim and rigid and provide that rock-solid quality feel that Apple products should have and the glass cut-outs are a striking feature too.

People complain about what's the same then they complain about what's different and they also complain about the stuff that Apple has chosen not to do. In the end, you can't please everyone. There are plenty of options for people who want massive screens and plastic backs. All good if you ask me.

I do wonder if this might be the first time we see three colour options.

1) Black glass with gun metal frame
2) White glass with silver frame
3) Black glass with silver frame

If so, I'd go for the black and silver option. I don't think the contrast between the windows and the silver back looks bad at all. In fact, I think it looks great. Bold and distinctive. If not I suspect I'll go for the black with the gun metal finish but who knows, it's hard to tell until you see it in the flesh, or at least as a finished item.

what if the real iphone 5 is the same as iPhone 4S with 3.5-inch screen? And this leak is only a rumour? :D

We're kind of entering some weird territory here. Apple has ridiculous amounts of money. They have enough money that they could, in theory, order a bunch of fake parts and spew them all over the place. How much would that really take, a few tens of millions? Psshhhh, that's nothing!

That is what is in the back of my mind as well. Tim Cook said they were doubling down on security, yet there have never been as many leaks as now. Also, last year's tapered iPhone rumours did not pan out as the design was reportedly not yet ready. Did they completely kill of that tapered design, or are these leaked parts merely fabricated leaks? It seems like a lot of effort to leak parts from different suppliers, even logic boards, but they perhaps they are all a big hoax and Apple will indeed release last year's rumoured tapered iPhone design? Or perhaps that will be a 'one more thing'? A taller iPhone named 'The New iPhone', and a tapered complete overhaul called 'iPhone SJ' (Steve Jobs)?

After all, this upcoming iPhone is what Steve Jobs spent all of his last time on this earth on... this thing has to impress...

The "new iPhone" keynote will be very interesting... will apple be able to surprise us all with an unknown ace up their sleeve? Just one more week to go and we'll find out! Tim & Co must be rehearsing their presentations right now. :)

Pretty sue this will be the new iPhone. I hope it isn't, but the evidence is overwhelming. Buying it regardless because I am too invested in the ecosystem.

And for the haters, I have an SIII, awesome phone. We will see which is better soon.

I can't believe Apple is going to release a design like that.

See the back.. The camera isn't even centered vertically in the top stripe. It almost touches the bottom of the stripe, while there's plenty of space to the top.

This is not just on this mockup - it is also present in ALL "leaks". I don't expect such finish from Apple.

Also, the speaker grill holes are ridiculously big. About 1-1,2mm2. See every other Apple product. Macbooks, iPad etc. NONE of these have grills like that. Dust would too easily come in and be stuck.

If the product Apple is releasing looks like that, it would be the biggest disappointment in several years. Just not the thing I expect by Apple. I hope they laugh their a**** off in Cupertino over these "leaks".

I thought they would make that whole thing black. That includes the metal around the iPhone. What's up with that? I kind of like that the iPhone was all black. Pff now it looks even more like a iPhone 4/4S.

I think it is entirely possible that Apple leaked a phoney iPhone 5 !

I'm banking on a strategy coup from Apple to release an entirely different iPhone 5 design at launch !

That would give new meaning to "we will double secrecy effort" !

It's needed so that all the antennae work. Especially the cell antennae on top and bottom.

There are more beautiful solutions to this problem with aluminium back, for example this is what HTC did

htc-one-s-back-copy-htc-ones-q5.jpg

It's some kind of hard rubber, very grippy and passes the antenna signals quite well.

Hi all, new member, please be gentle (for now ;))

Did everyone forgot about the iPhone 5 rumors last year where case makers made a batches of cases for it, but we got the iPhone 4S instead. Yeah, there was a real mockup with the teardrop shaped back and everything.

Tim Cook is doubling down on secrecy, one way to do that could be to intentionally leak fake information.

Even with all the components that we saw, I'm still skeptical about this phone, simply because its merely a longer iPhone 4 with a different back. Its not a different design like the 3G to the 4 design, I don't think anyone who saw this went "wow impressive", mostly it should be, "wow underwhelmed", am I right?

About the Galaxy S3 (with ICS), I had a chance to try it, after playing with it for a short time I lost interest, because its an Android phone with a large screen, if you've tried Android, well its the same thing, its like if you have an iPod and then you try an iPhone, the experience is basically the same. The scrolling is still not as smooth as iOS even with a faster processor. Although some things are nicer, like you can change screen brightness with 2 taps and a slide, same thing on iOS on iPhone and iPod is a much larger hassle by comparison.

Things I was never impressed with are the animated wallpapers, widgets and to my surprise, I wasn't impressed with the larger screen either, maybe because of my usage habits (its not my sole device and so I depend on it less), so to me its still a small screen device.

Color

I still wish the backs were a solid color, it looks so ugly having two colors. It just makes me ready to buy a case that covers the back. My iPhone 4 is in a bumper because the glass back is, in my opinion, beautiful. This back, eh, I won't mind having a case that covers it up if the final product looks like this.
