I’ve taken a couple of photos to show how raised the pad is.

Edit: adding in photo comparing overall depth of charger to the Apple Watch charger

Just to say it, $69 for an iPhone charger (after you add the wall adapter) is getting a little bit silly...

AirPower was rumored to be much more expensive :)

Would also like to know if its USB C, which means another 29.00 for the wall charger ??

Power adapter is however cheap you can find one, but the 20w Apple one is $19

I imagine that the weak magnet on the case is just relaying the magnetic force from the iPhone 12 itself, and shouldn’t be thought of as being complete in itself. After all, it’s designed to work with the new phones, not the old ones, even if it does fit.

The stuff Apple showed in their video never gave me any indication that the case would be removable via the MagSafe charger.. it just seemed more like a visible expanded view, that should the phone, case, and charger separate and then putting them all together.

Odd choice that he would say that the video gave him the impression that the charger would also remove the case.

I think he meant that the MagSafe magnets were what kept the Case and iPhone together, so it would be easily swappable. But this particular case isn't so easily removable. It's held on by the normal lip around the whole device.

From the photos, the pad portion looks very poorly tucked into the rim. I hope that's just the photos and not an example of how poor the quality of this thing is.
I'm surprised there isn't more discussion about this. It's apparent on the official packaging, not to mention photos taken by customers being shared on other sites. Very surprising given Apple's reputation for quality and design detail.

So I wonder if this will need the 20W adapter in order for the 15W charging to happen on the iPhone 12? Or will the adapter from the iPhone 11 or iPad Pros work for 15W changing as well.

Something that has taken a massive hit in recent years and is steadily declining, so I'm not sure how surprising it is.

This is really stretching the definition of a "wireless" charger. More like a "connection port free" charger.

I don't know why people keep repeating this nonsense. Wireless means nothing to plug in, no that there are no wires at all. That would obviously be impossible unless there is some alien technology out there that allows 110 volts of current to travel through thin air.

I’m a little confused at the thought of this being designed for a nightstand. The cable is meant to go down the bottom of the phone. So you either have the cable going over the front of your nightstand (and drawer if you have one); or, you need to place the bottom of your phone facing the wall to allow the cable to go behind the nightstand.

The cable on this charger looks very flimsy, I hope it doesn't tear up easily like Apple lightning cables that shipped with iPhone.

No wall connector in a $39 wireless charger.

Also - its important to point out the hypocrisy of apple ditching wall chargers ”for the environment” and then pushing the inefficient wireless charging which results in power loss and therefore more power needed to charge the device. Wireless charging is “bad for the environment” by Apples logic.

There's a difference between wasted energy and useful energy.

I haven't taken the wall-wart out of my box for YEARS. For millions of folks, it literally is 100% waste.

New magnetic functionality has utility. It's nowhere close to 100% waste.

Plug it into your 30 existing USB blocks. Lightening cables did not come with a block. or even the old 30 pin.
