I'm not sure why it should be included since adapters for the SD are small and cheap.

I would think that the people who need an SD slot are probably in the minority.

I appreciate the ability to use SD cards on a computer natively with an in-built reader since I wouldn’t ever accidentally forget my dongle, and that dongle is something I don’t have to remember to carry every time.

However, I also see that card readers can get damaged/ stop working. The in-built one in my 2011 MBP died about a year later, post warranty period. So, a cheap and disposable card reader that is separate from the computer is understandable.

I think people just feel about the inconvenience of it, that’s all.

I can't even imagine how much that will cost. Compare it to a Windows PC with the same hardware and it is probably at least 1k cheaper. But hey enjoy it!

In 2019 if you need a VM on a Mac to run MS-Office and other Windows apps......seriously get a Windows Laptop. There are literally hundreds of options to choose from and something you will like for sure. Heck the Surface line is really filled out at this point, with all kinds of options.

Hmmm I would wait for thermal testing by all of those Youtube guys like David Lee. If it throttles like crazy when doing video work....then no thanks.

In the last 25 years if you tried to match every component that is in the Mac and matched it, the pc would be the same price or more. Mac's costing more is a myth with the quality of components and the speed or space.

Then stay clear of any even semi recent MacBook(Pro) as the all have it in the touchpad......

(not that it would "vibrate" in any way....)
quite different thing...

i have a totally different point of discussion.
I really appreciated the 512 Gb SSD in the "base" model.
But I'm wondering how they can justify 256 Gb SSD in the $6000 Mac Pro then...

This is utterly ridiculous.

I guess to me, a small card reader does not sound like a big inconvenience.

I carry a portable USB-C BluRay / DVD player with my laptop which is a much bigger inconvenience :).

I also carry a Satechi adapter that supplies USB-A, HDMI, ethernet, and SD card functionality.

The Satechi adapter is small and fits in my laptop bag next to my AC adapter.

I highly recommend it.

Probably justified by their marketing dep't---most people will find 256GB rediculous so they'll pay an Apple Premium to upgrade. Voila!

Yeah for me its a relaiblity thing. Any card reader I;ve had - internal or dongle has been unreliable - works sometimes doens't work others. likes some cards not others, needs to be put in from a certain angle. I would like an sd card reader in the machine - but as they do seem to be very unreliable I don['t mind that there isn't one

Except that on the MBP16 it would cover an air inlet 🤣

LOL. I can tell you right off the bat that as an audio engineer the audio is distorting. So there's that...
Yeah there’s some occasional overload distortion and a couple instances of some weird electrical interference or induced noise. But I’ve listened to other audio recordings made with the 16” MBP’s mics and didn’t hear anything similar to the distortion heard in this video.

It’s decent, pretty clean, somewhat reverberant with some bass resonance due to the smaller rooms they’re recorded in. Not as off-mic as I would have expected based on the person speaking’s location as shown in the video.

Someone needs to take one of these things outside and do some recording there.

<snip>
I wonder what kind of improvement that might lead to with the 13" machines if they applied their bezel "improvements". Like grow it to maybe 13.5-13.7" and start calling it a 14"? I just hope I don't see the MBA gain weight or the touchbar.
If they decide to grow the display it seems like they would probably offer a 14.0”. But they might also decide to keep the 13.3” and shrink the bezels and overall physical dimensions. Hard to say which they will do.

But in any event I think the MBA will remain 13.3”. I doubt Apple wants to increase size, weight and cost of the MBA. And the Touch Bar I think will remain a Pro feature,

"Since then I’ve embraced the Apple ecosystem (including iCloud storage) and have only picked up my digital camera a handful of times and only for nostalgic purposes — as my iPhone is convenient and all the camera I need. "

What the what???

So adopting the Apple ecosystem means you have to give up better photographs? Is there a tattoo you need to get as well?

NO smartphone can come close to what even your $1000 DSLR's can achieve in auto mode no less. Sure if you just want quick pictures it is fine for most. If you want good to great photos then put down the smartphone and pickup a camera. Yes you see some great shots from a iPhone from pro photographers that have the iPhone in some rig that you will never have and then heavily edited in software.

Adopting the Apple ecosystem means *I* don’t need to spend thousands of dollars for bulky gear that I have to lug around allow to occasionally take a better photo than I can with my iPhone.

And, no, a tattoo is not needed - just common sense and an aversion to snark and contrived outrage.

If the "biggest" thing you do with Apple gear is take photos with your phone, you, by no measure, are a "Pro" user that this product purports to be aimed at 🤣

I bought a Transcend card reader when I had the 2016 MBP. Now with the Air 2017 the card reader is built-in, so that’s okay. I’m fine either way too.

It´s also my favourite mac laptop Ever. Running Catalina now like a charm.

As you can see, I have spares….

Beautiful!
I loved the aluminum bezel and matte screens

I really wish we could get a matte screen option again

Haptic feedback on a notebook ???
I don’t want my notebook to vibrates in any way !

Oh?
Did you remove the trackpad on yours?

If this is truly a pro machine, most pro cameras are moving to XQD.

But it's a moot point, we're going to have USB-C only, and maybe a headphone jack (which surprised me that it's still there).

Suppose you buy a race car. You want a "roller", that is, a version of the car that can roll into the truck where you carry it to your workshop, outfit it with wheels, perhaps the engine of your choice. For this purpose, the roller comes with cheap, barely usable wheels. They are NOT intended for racing, and you wouldn't want to pay for racing wheels that you may not want or need in the "base" model.

256 GB will let you boot up, test some applications, test your own external or internal storage. It is not meant as an insult. If you're looking for insults, or you want to buy an impressive spec machine for less money, look elsewhere.

It’s funny to read comments about people complaining about that ports. Same exact comments back in 2016. It’s safe to say 4 yrs later and Apple is not changing anything. Ha
Either buy it or don’t but there not putting in any different ports.

Yep, they were too early, but were right. Other than HDMI, we're about 1/4 into the full transition to USB-C.

Except of course, the iPhone...grrrr
