Nothing about thermals or fan noise?
It runs cool and quiet. I'm writing this comment on one. Even benchmarking I can barely notice it most of the time. I had the fastest 2017 5K iMac at work for half a year before switching jobs and it would get louder and a lot more often than my i9/Vega 48. The only time I really notice it is Bootcamped into Windows running a game at 1440p around 60fps on medium to high settings (depending on the game) and the game audio gets quiet and then I'm suddenly aware. I noticed it ramp up to medium levels for about a minute maybe twice when I was first setting it up and it was downloading the iCloud Photo library, Dropbox, while installing Adobe Creative Cloud and doing a time machine backup, spotlight index with several other apps open being configured at the same time and the App Store also installing things in the background. Since initial setup I've run Cinebench R20, R15, Geekbench, and some heavier tests in Premiere Pro stabilizing 4K footage and Photoshop rendering a 22GP (yes, gigapixel) oak tree and yeah, it's not loud.

Now PCs look better than the fat bezel 2019 iMac.

They really don’t.

It looks like a typical plasticky piece of crap. Just having a thinner bezel doesn’t make it more attractive.

Plus it still has a huge (plastic) chin like the iMac and adds an ugly (plastic) stand and those two "hooks" sticking out of the bottom, which should be for hanging an ugly (plastic) speaker based on past Dell design philosophy.

I prefer thin bezels on things I sit far away from, like my TV. For my iMac, I'm sitting so close I don't notice the bezel or chin. If anything, the border of black around the edge helps. No bezels would be sexy but would add nothing of real value. IMO, for once Apple gave people something great - more power and less fan noise.

It doesn't matter how great a PC design could be, a true Apple fan will always bash it to the end of days, and Apple can do no wrong. Surface Studio, also disgusting and inferior to the iMac, design-wise right?

I mean I can't really believe the amount of defense Apple gets, if the situation were reversed, the argument would change.

Would you say its worth upgrading from a 2017 27" 5k iMac with the 4.2 i7 and Radeon Pro 580 for the 3.9 8 Core CPU and Vega 48?

I've been watching closely for thermal reports - will be upgrading to the i9 / Vega 48. Current work machine is cylinder (8-core 3.0 / dual 700 gfx), home machine is a late 2013 i7 iMac. Very excited!

The SS is a gorgeous concept. Too bad it's so overpriced for what it is.

I think the Surface Studio 2 is gorgeous, but for $3499, a Kaby Lake H-Series is just not going to cut it. I can get the Core i5-9600K/16GB/1TB/Vega 48 for $3449.00, run circles around the Surface Studio 2 and save $50.

Kudos to Microsoft for having the guts to build it, but the Studio 2’s guts are just meh, it’s boutique at best and it will never match the iMac in sales volume in any meaningful way.

While I agree that the bezels are huge and need to go, since I got my iMac in last week I have barely noticed like it thought I would. It’s really not bad once you start to use it. Still, I do hope for a redesign down the road - just not too soon now.

I don’t really understand why people are so obsessed with thinner bezels.
On a phone or maybe a tablet or laptop? Yes. On a desktop that doesn’t need to be portable? Not so much. I think the only grievance would be if you ran multiple displays, as less bezel is nice there, but I don’t think the iMac is really ideal for multiple displays, as it’s far better to have identical displays for height/color/brightness consistency.

Personally, I’m fine with my 2017’s bezels.

Reviews on it are mixed, and it’s still a Surface product. I’ve owned a lot of MS products and a lot of Apple products. I had tons of problems with MS, from Xbox to Surface to Band to Lumia. I’ve essentially had zero issues with Apple. You can chose not to believe me, but I put my dollars toward things that don’t work against me. I just can’t do MS. And even then SS is a very niche product. Great for a select few, a compromise for most everyone else. I don’t want an admittedly beautiful 28” desktop display to look like my phone’s screen.

If you watch any review about Macs, they always talk about Final Cut Pro. They don't say anything about running virtual machines, Handbrake, or none of that stuff.

Upgrading from my previous workstation, a 2011 15" MBP, i7, dual SSDs, 16GBs, that went to that Apple in the Sky. Trading in my 2015 MacBook for the 27" iMac, i9. I should be too damn old to be influenced by peer pressure, but I'll probably get the Vega, even though the 580X (with 8 freaking GBs) would fit our family's probable use cases, to include my son wanting to start video editing and working in VR, my wife's use of Lightroom and Photoshop, and me dabbling with coding.

Is VEGA 48 worth it as an upgrade? Will be using it for 360' video, RAW 30+MP photo editing and maybe VR in the distant future. $500 is a lot of money for an incremental upgrade.

When my current iMac dies or becomes to obsolete, the top iMac 27” is what I want. For a little over 5K it’s a great price for an awesome iMac.

Wouldn't mind seeing a 32" iMac. Not lying, I would buy it. If it never comes, I'll ride out my 2015 5K 27" into the sunset. Processing wise, I don't need more of anything.

What about those of us with a secondary monitor, look at this bezel atrocity.

Apple is supposed to be 2-3 years ahead of the competition, not behind.

The iMac could use a thinner bezel, 32" option, and a standard VESA mount on the back. The lack of a 100mm mount is frustrating... how could this be overlooked for so long?

The videos I've seen focus on the presence/lack of throttling but none, so far, measure standard operating temperatures during mundane tasks like web surfing/emails etc. I'd like to see Apple produce a desktop mac that isn't thermally challenged but this rev clearly stands pat and allows Apple to maintain its iOS/Services focus by minimizing Mac changes.

More ports, better cooling and more user accessible machines would be my top picks for a new design. Smaller bezels are fine but unimportant to me.
