Was at Tmobile store checking out the xs and honestly wow what an upgrade it will be from my iPhone 6s.

Just waiting for the xr to check out in person and then will make up my mind, but so far really leaning towards xs gold.

Primarily upgrading for the 600mhz support that I hope will be a tremendous difference with Tmobile network. Otherwise would of gotten last years X or even kept mine for another few years.

Yes, if the brick was weighted differently, it'd feel very different.

I gotta know what you think Apple is doing differently with the weighting of their heaviest ever iPhone to make it 'feel' lighter than any other similarly sized and weighted smartphone on the market.

You know what I think? I think people are reading way too much into the topic and really want to believe that it somehow feels lighter and so convince themselves that it's true.

Sometimes things aren't always as they seem.

Please, that's ridiculous. It weighs what it weighs and there's no way around that.

Even if someone wants to make the (ridiculous) argument that Apple somehow strategically placed components in the phone to make it feel lighter, then that all goes out the window as soon as you rotate it to landscape mode where it now 'feels' heavier than it should on one end.

Why else are people continuing to comment on it? Or is it some larger conspiracy on the internet?

Because the fanboys are being absolutely silly about this, acting like Apple can magically make a small rectangular shaped device defeat the laws of physics.

People defending this nonsense is exactly what makes the Android crowd roll their eyes. I suppose it was 'courageous' to make the phone feel lighter than it really is, too?

It feels natural in your hand because you paid $1400....you will find every reason to justify your purchase. Im sure you will post tomorrow telling us that your days seem brighter ever since you got the new phone.

Some may justify spending $1400... others will justify NOT spending $1400...but the only ones that truly know what it’s like to own one... is those that spent the money and I appreciate reading their thoughts. Not so much the comments made by those that don’t know.

Could anyone, who upgraded from 7plus,
tell me, if it is worth to upgrade? I am thinking to buy as a present for my lady.
She is happy with her 7plus, but she is a heavy user and takes tons of pictures. Do you think is it worth the pile a money it costs? I do not have a big budget so I need to think carefully
I upgraded from a 7 Plus and while I loved that phone. This Max is a whole new game. It’s just beautiful. The screen is sharp. Battery life is really good for me. I haven’t had a chance to really play with the camera yet. The Animoji and Memoji thing is awesome. I have lots of fun sending funny stuff to people. (Rainbow unicorn). All in all I couldn’t be happier.

Don‘t worry about that. In the end, most of those with the shiny new $1400 phone will use it mostly for facebook, instagram and twitter. But first things first, as soon as they switch the new device for the first time on, they go on macRumors and say “love it”. It’s “part of the experience”.

Nice to see everyone enjoying (for the most part) their new updates. Did a hands on with the Max over the weekend, it is just like a Plus but all screen...very nice. Am going to wait on the Xr, but the Max is sweet.

Oh, you must not know - you poor dear...

Apple as an Xr coming - same top performing guts and camera as the Xs and Max, but uses a LCD desplay (like last years 8 and 8 Plus) for $750. Upgrade to 128GB for $799. The screen is significantly larger (6.1 inch) than last year's 8 Plus, has the same PPI (pixel density), but list price is $50 less than the 8 Plus was last year. And they come in colors. Oh, and the battery life is supposed to be 1 1/2 hours longer than the 8 Plus which already great battery life.

I know, pretty awesome. Tim's got your back Peperino.

Enjoy your weekend knowing Apple didn't abandon you in your need for a good deal (compared to last year).

Sorry, but he does not.
THe XR has the same amount of pixels than the iPhone 4 from 2010...
And by the way it does NOT cost $30 per month... So it will be great that Tim, stop lying in national TV about iPhones prices...

If the pixel density is an issue for you (wasn't an issue for 100% of iOS users prior to 2017) then buy an XS.

As far as "good deals" go, there are no good deals to be had on new Apple hardware. Second hand maybe.

I upgraded from an X 256gb to an XS MAX 256gb. While iOS12 was a nice upgrade in speed for the X, the new XS is definitely a faster phone overall. Launching apps, Face ID, navigation, etc. are all faster. WiFi is definitely faster, too. And the camera while the same, I believe, does seem to use better image processing because the photos seem to have better dynamic range and sharpness. My only disappointment so far has been the performance of LTE data speed on ATT's network. I was getting weak signals and very slow data speeds right after activation (~1.5Mbs down, <1Mbs up). Even went to an ATT store to swap out the SIM card, but now finally after spending an hour with an advanced tech, they may have found a way to boost LTE performance. Now getting 2.5Mbs up and 5Mbs down with 2 bars of service, not good, but better than before. So I have not experienced the cellular data speed boost on ATT that is supposed to come with the improved XS MAX modem.

The camera is not the same. The sensor is 32% larger on the 2018 models.

That is not correct. The Xr is ~1.5 Megapixel. The iPhone 4 is ~0.6 Megapixel.

Pixel density is the same however.

Bought the previous X early and like the screen ratio of the Plus phones (6-8).

Expanding YouTube videos crops the top and bottom with the X. Instead of expanding I watch videos in what seems like a 4.5” screen, without fully expanding. I imagine the cropping happens with the Xs max also.

Just to be clear, only the rear wide angle sensor is bigger.

Right because it isn't painfully obvious now that your post is driven by an agenda. It is just random people giving their first impressions from all around the world. I wouldn't read anymore into it than that really.

What exactly do you mean you don't need a knife anymore to unbox these?

People don't have any fingernails ?

Yes, feel is subjective and two such similarly weighted objects will be hard to tell apart. If enough people express a similar feeling then there might be an explanation, though: it could be that the larger screen makes the device seem less dense even though it's actually the same weight, that the edges have a different feel, or that they're holding it differently.

I upgraded from the iphone x to the new xs max. Apart from the size, which I wanted, there's really nothing to discuss or talk about imo. THe camera is slightly better (to such a small degree it really isn't anything to talk about), and the speed improvement is nothing nobody will notice. Upgrading from a iphone x to an iphone xs would just be plain stupid. Also the better water resistance is something I believe is just because the phone was more water proof than they anticipated, because iFixit couldn't find a single thing they could have done to improve water resistance.
So all in all, its bigger, nothing more to talk about, just move along. :)

You know what I think is happening? A lot of those 2014 iPhone 6 Plus owners are really starting to upgrade. The past 4 to 5 years for them has been: meh. They have gotten a good long run out of their phone and that kinda offsets the upfront cost of the new phone, especially the XS Max. Skipping upgrades for nearly 4 to 5 years, thats nearly 4,000 dollars in yearly upgrades; realistically, 2,000 if you upgrade every 2 years.

This is the most impressive Apple Math I've come across.

To say it another way:

The MORE you spend on your phone, the more you GAIN by not upgrading it every other year.
So buying a 1500 € phone is actually CHEAPER, because you SAVE 1500 € every year you DON'T buy a new phone.

So if you manage to keep it for three years, you save 1500 € twice, meaning Apple essentially GIVES YOU 1500 €!

Amazing logic, quick maffs.

Watching movies on full screen is amazing. I can imagine those who had this on the X loved it. On the XS Max it feels great. I also now use Google News app and all that information is available taking up the screen. Perfect size for me

I have an X and checked out the Max at the Apple store over the weekend.

I fount it easier to hold one handed than the old + model.

Screen size is very nice, but overall not compelling enough to get me to upgrade from the X (which is an excellent phone btw). I might go max on my next iPhone, although I would like to see the notch disappear.

I don’t mind the notch but the extra screen real estate would be nice. Overall I think Apple has done an excellent job on the X / XR / XS / XSMax.

Here in the US, carriers are offering some nice deals on the new iPhones.
