Ironic how the notch haters stay with the 8 series, I just don't get it. At the end of the day the notch is just a bezel with functional sides, accept it like this and life becomes much easier. How the heck someone would prefer the humungous bezels of a 8 series over the Xs series is beyond me, but of course that's their choice and I personally don't take offense to it even if I can't understand it.
Couldn’t agree more. Been using a X series for awhile now and was previously using all the Plus models. I had to use a colleague’s 7 Plus and was kind of jarred by the bezels.

I hardly notice the notch and find it’s an acceptable trade-off.

Gotta say, even with average hands (no complaints elsewhere knowwhatimean) it feels totally manageable.

I switched from a 7+ to X last year and loved at first but after a few weeks longed for more screen space.

On the commute. On the elliptical. Using for maps in car. Watching YouTube. Etc.

Dunno how they did it, but honestly the max feels natural in my hand. Just the screen is gorgeous. I can do a lot still one handed. And for two handed typing? So much easier.

With the X i felt when I needed to type fast and professional I went two handed, and my fat fingers made so many mistakes. This is just right sizes to fly through typing. Look at photos and videos with ease. Just loving it 6 hours in. Damn you apple.

Yeah. My hands couldn’t have grown since 7+ right? Wife would have complimented me. WHy is this easier.
Probably because the screen starts at the bottom of the device. I've always hated the ergonomics of the Plus phones but never found effectively bezelless Android phones with identical screen sizes as unwieldy (e.g., the 6+ versus the Nexus 5). This is the first time I'm considering Apple's largest phone.

I am X user, and I hate notch, main reason is crippled status bar (we cannot see battery %, vpn, dnd), but still prefer new UI and life without home button.

Disappointing thing with X and now Xs/Xs Max is memory management. Even with 4GB of ram Xs/Xs Max are reloading apps. That really sucks.

I have an XS max 256, coming from a 7 Plus 128.

FaceID is noticably faster than TouchID for me.

It’s odd that it doesn’t give a passcode option when it fails tho

That's iOS 12 thing, among small, but useful things, like app updates from multiple app stores without switching, etc.

I do agree re: information status bar.

That is my biggest gripe with the X series.

As to memory management, I have never experienced that problem, but if others have, I hope and assume the issue can be addressed by a software update.

Went from a 128GB 6+ to this. Night and day, I'm shocked by how much better it works.

Side note: I wasn't looking for a Max at all. My 6+ was getting very ornery so I went to the nearest T-Mobile, which was coincidentally on launch day, to buy last year's X if they had any left. They did not and offered me a gold 256GB Xs Max. Very happy, works great.

How optimized is/will iOS be for the 6.5” screen? I want to upgrade to the max but can’t seem to justify pulling the trigger (currently on the X). I don’t play mobile games or watch movies but if I can get more info on the screen at once I’m all for it. But if it just makes the font bigger then I’d rather just keep the smaller form factor

I held one in an Apple Store on Friday and it felt anything but "light in the hand" to me. Felt like a brick I could knock someone out with if I had to. Nothing at all to justify upgrading from my X.

Is anyone else having issues with their WiFi when they connect their Xs Max to the network? When I connect my phone to my home's WiFi it slows all devices, including the phone itself, to a crawl. Apple claims that it is an issue with our router. I know if I buy that.

Edit: Now I'm uncertain, it might be my new Apple Watch causing the issue. :(

A phablet doesn’t mean it’s superior. Both phones have the exact same specs.

I thought like this for a long time. I resisted getting a Plus sized phone until dual lens and portrait mode forced me. After getting used to the bigger display there’s just no going back. If the regular XS had the same AR of the old Plus phones then it would be a no brained but it doesn’t! Therefore the Max is really the choice for those of us who loved the Plus phones.

I know they’re not for everyone. The regular sizes definitely fit better in my pockets but I’m willing to sacrifice a little comfort for a better overall experience.

What was her reasoning? That seems like an odd statement.

The main issues with the bigger phones is it doesn't fit well in some pockets and it's harder for one handed use, but otherwise I don't see any problem. The bigger ones usually have better battery life too.

Yep. This is another thing in the Max’s favor! A big one I might add!

Are you connecting to 5 GHz? Make sure!

Both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz, it doesn't seem to matter which I connect to, it's the same issue. It also seems to happen on both the Watch and the Phone.

Edit: Now that I've troubleshooted connection issues with my Watch, which resulted in disabling WiFi on the watch, the issue seems to have resolved itself. For now.

In otherwords I am pretty sure something in the watch's WiFi connection was messing up my whole WiFi network :(

Just swing by an Apple store yesterday. iPhones look very nice and crisp sharp screen. They are definitely very nice.
Are they worth the way overpriced tag?

I do not think so.
Apple turned into a luxury phone brand.
I do not think there is a phone for everyone.

Furthermore, Tim Cook Jokes on National TV trying to do PR damage control and justify the over expensive prices that you can get an iPhone for $30 is way beyond ridiculous.
Why would he even care about going to TV show to talk about the new iPhone prices? maybe is because many people think they are way overpriced and do some PR? Well people that think the iPhones are way expensive they certainly do not care what Cook has to think about it...

iPhone Xs-24 months is $42.00
iPhone Max-512 $61.00

That's correct. Its same Face ID system but apparently with the new nuro engine it can process it a bit faster. There's a video on youtube already that shows its a split second faster. However with iOS12 increasing the performance already with the X its hardly noticeable from what I could tell.

What actually might make a difference is if its more accurate with some peoples faces. It works quiet well with me and I don't have any issues with its speed for my use. Face ID 2 I hope allows for horizontal face unlock.

I am not sure if FaceID hardware has been “tweaked” compared to the X or improvements to iOS 12 or even the new silicone or extra RAM (4GB vice 3GB). I had the X and FaceID on that was slow even during the “learning” phase. With my Xs it is noticeably faster to unlock, sometimes I quickly swipe up and by the time the screen changes to the home screen FaceID has done another scan and its unlocks, this was never the case with the X.

I also find that the angles to scan with FaceID have improved too, not sure if it is software or silicone related. Granted it will not scan when in landscape or upside down, however with FaceID in the original position if you angle you head, say while sleeping in bed, the distance and angles have improved compared to the X.

Maybe FaceID hardware is the same and improvements to iOS and the silicone and more RAM are responsible for the much needed speed and improvements, however I am happy I did not keep iPhone X as FaceID speed was unbearable. I can only be certain when the Xr is released as that has 3GB of RAM vice 4GB.

It's officially iPhone launch day, which means iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models are in Apple retail stores and have been delivered to customers all around the world. The first pre-orders began arriving this morning in the United States and millions of customers now have the new devices.

We got our hands on one of the new iPhone XS Max models this morning to check out that huge new screen, the new 6.5-inch size, the camera improvements, and the faster internals.

The iPhone XS Max's display measures in at 6.5-inches, and it features the biggest screen that Apple's ever introduced. Size wise, the iPhone XS Max is a good bit larger than the iPhone X and XS, but it's smaller in size than the iPhone 8 Plus despite the bigger display. It's bigger than the iPhone X, and smaller than the latest Galaxy phone.

Though large, the iPhone XS Max feels surprisingly light in the hand, perhaps due to its thin 7.7mm body and clever weight distribution by Apple. The bigger display looks incredible, as should be no surprise, and it's amazing for watching videos, looking at photos, or playing video games.

Face ID is slightly faster in the iPhone XS Max thanks to the improved A12 Bionic chip and neural engine, and the camera, though using the same 12-megapixel dual-lens system as the iPhone X, has some internal improvements that produce noticeably better photos.

We'll be doing a much deeper dive into the camera and comparing it with the iPhone X camera so stay tuned for that, but suffice it to say the iPhone XS Max camera is a solid upgrade over the camera in the iPhone X.

The A12 processor is 15 percent faster than the A11, which isn't super noticeable, but it does result in much better battery life. iPhone XS Max lasts an hour and a half longer than the iPhone X.

Many Apple retail stores had iPhone XS and XS Max stock available for walk-in purchases this morning, and stock should be replenished regularly. Orders placed today on the website won't ship out until October, though, so the store is your best bet if you didn't pre-order.

Pricing on the iPhone XS starts at $999 and pricing on the iPhone XS Max starts at $1,099.

[doublepost=1537735371][/doublepost]Just got a report saying I clocked 29 minutes of screen time on this iPad. Really I wish it was more. No friends and wife doesn’t want more face or screen time with me. Plus I spent all my money on apple products already. Maybe they should do a Apple money spent report too!

If you're buying a new phone right now, this one is clearly the one to buy if you have the cash. The Plus phones are just superior. They're super comfortable to read text and awesome for watching videos. If you've been using any Plus version then the X will be too small. The XS is like a longer 6 and the Max is exactly a slightly wider, by a fraction of a mm, bezel less Plus.

For me it may as well be an iPad phone. To big for me. Clearly. But even better to read text and watch video.

It feels natural in your hand because you paid $1400....you will find every reason to justify your purchase. Im sure you will post tomorrow telling us that your days seem brighter ever since you got the new phone.

Nice to see everyone enjoying (for the most part) their new updates. Did a hands on with the Max over the weekend, it is just like a Plus but all screen...very nice. Am going to wait on the Xr, but the Max is sweet.

Oh, you must not know - you poor dear...

Apple as an Xr coming - same top performing guts and camera as the Xs and Max, but uses a LCD desplay (like last years 8 and 8 Plus) for $750. Upgrade to 128GB for $799. The screen is significantly larger (6.1 inch) than last year's 8 Plus, has the same PPI (pixel density), but list price is $50 less than the 8 Plus was last year. And they come in colors. Oh, and the battery life is supposed to be 1 1/2 hours longer than the 8 Plus which already great battery life.

I know, pretty awesome. Tim's got your back Peperino.

Enjoy your weekend knowing Apple didn't abandon you in your need for a good deal (compared to last year).

Yes that is why people are commenting on it. Precisely because it doesn't feel as heavy even though they know it isn't lighter. Hence the surprise.

Wait, what? That doesn't make any sense. The weight of a solid state object isn't a subjective characteristic.

If I had a 5 lb brick in one hand and a 5.1 lb brick in the other hand, what could I do to the heavier brick to make anyone think that it didn't 'feel' as heavy as the other brick?

That's pretty accurate IMO. The width of the Plus and the amount of data width wise is similar to the Max, but the Max fills up the forehead and chin with screen. In fact, that's exactly how they're designed.

The Plus is a 414x736 point screen.
The Max is a 414x896 point screen.

Yes, if the brick was weighted differently, it'd feel very different.

Coming from only Plus phones since the 6+ I went with the XS. Sure it’s a tiny bit more narrow but it’s essentially the same screen size as the Plus models but it’s lighter, smaller and compact size outweigh an even larger than the plus screen size. 5.8 inches is more than enough for a portable device. I have an iPad and mbp at home if I want something larger.

Not quite, it’s got the pixel density do the 8, but less than the 8 Plus.

I’m still getting one though.

Sometimes things aren't always as they seem. Why else are people continuing to comment on it? Or is it some larger conspiracy on the internet?

Available on walk in ... what a flop...

Or it could mean that Apple is getting better at anticipating the demand and planning for it. It's almost like they put a supply chain management expert in charge of the company.

IF Apple would have build an SE sized new phone, waiting times would have been months...

There are almost no small phones any more because there is not a large demand for them, nor is there large profit in them. These phone manufacturers are not idiots that are simply overlooking a rich market for small phones--it's just not there.
[doublepost=1537746851][/doublepost]
Completely disagree. Unless you are a big gamer or habitually watch films on your phone or some other specialized reason, it’s pretty silly to get these oversized phones.

Is browsing the Internet a 'specialized' reason? It kinda seems like someone's preferred screen size is subjective--in my opinion, there are no downsides to the larger phones so it's not silly to me at all. I'm OK with the extra cost of the larger phone, and I'm OK with the way it fits in my pocket, so to me the silly phones are those comically small 4" ones that I have to squint at to see. I have an X and an SE and the only thing that might be better on the SE is actually using it as a phone, something that I'm doing less and less of every year.
