Wish these were compatible with the current Nano. Can't bring myself to take my phone into the gym.

Why is it not compatible with the nano? Beat's X pairs with standard BT devices which is what the nano is. What's the limitation with BeatsX?

I stand corrected! I was going off the list of compatible devices on the product page on Apple's site.

Can you verify if these will use the AAC codec? Apple web site doesn't say. I would be surprised if they did not.

i just got mine, they work with my iphone and ipad pro but aren't showing up as an option on my mac. Is there something I'm missing? It's running Sierra, latest patch levels (non-beta). the only thing that shows up on my sound bar is the volume level

Macbook Pro 15 Retina, mid 2015.

Do you see this if you click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar?

If all devices are on the same iCloud account, this should sync over from your iOS devices.

yep, my only account. I double checked the mac just in case, the watch is connected to the phone that is working right now.
Hmmm... sorry I got nothin'. I just paired mine up on the iPhone and it appeared in that menu all on its own.

@Weaselboy Do you run with your BeatsX? I'm after an honest review if you do as my current bluetooth runners are rubbish.

I don't run, but I use them for my "fast walk" every morning. The sound is really great and once you learn the controls (there are some double and triple button press shortcuts) everything works perfectly. I had a pair of Jaybird X2s that sounded okay, but I hated them. They were so heavy no matter what earbud setup I used they always started working their way out of my ear after a few minutes.

The big design difference with the BeatsX is all the electronics and battery appear to be inside those little pods I highlighted. They are at the end of a semi-rigid cable that sort of grips itself around your neck, so there is no weight at all in the actual earbud above that. As a result, using the default, small ear cushion they pop right in my ear and never move. You really cannot feel the weight at all. I have jumped up and down a bit to see how they stay in place, and they stayed put. I can't imagine you would have any trouble with them when running.

All in all, I am happy with them and would recommend.

If you press option and the Bluetooth menu bar item, move the mouse to the BeatsX while playing music. Does it say Active Codec AAC of SBC?

It is AAC. Here is a screenshot for you.

... "It is AAC. Here is a screenshot for you."

Thanks, one last ask: Does the box or enclosed docs report a frequency response... like 20-20k Hz? I have a set of wired earplugs from Klipsch that are good down to 10 Hz and I love that deep Bass.

Nope... I don't see anything on those specs.

They must be making a killing with these. $150? Jesus. My Brainwavz wired earbuds (with mic and controls) were $10 and have excellent audio quality (I know -- hard to believe for $10, but the Wirecutter agrees). And the "pairing" is easy, I just plug them into the audio jack on my iPhone 6s+. Seriously, how the heck are these BeatsX worth $140 more?
Try the Frequency Response and Bass Shaker test on this web site: http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php

I just text listened a pair at the Apple Store. 10 Hz to my max. of about 13k Hz but there was significant Bass Shack at the low end. (http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php)

You're asking how a pair of wired no name brand headphones is worth less than a major companies wireless headphones?

Apple's long-awaited BeatsX Earphones became available for purchase this morning, giving Apple customers an alternative to the hard-to-find AirPods.

Priced at $149.95, BeatsX Earphones are wireless like AirPods, but are connected together with a cord that makes them easier to keep track of and better suited to active lifestyles. We managed to get our hands on a set of BeatsX Earphones to give MacRumors readers a closer look at Apple's latest product.

BeatsX Earphones feature the same W1 chip that's built into the AirPods, which makes pairing to any iOS device quick and simple, and because the BeatsX Earphones are connected via a cable, there's a space for an in-line remote for controlling media playback, something missing from the AirPods.

The earphones charge via Lightning, and ship with four interchangeable eartip sizes and secure-fit wingtips to keep them in place. With a full charge, users can expect eight hours of playback from the BeatsX, and a five minute "Fast Fuel" charging feature offers two hours of playback.

BeatsX Earphones are now available from Apple's online store and from many Apple retail stores around the world. Black and White models can be purchased starting today, while the Blue and Gray versions will be available later in the month. Online orders placed today in the United States will be delivered next week.

Where to begin?

Power button is too small and too difficult to use.
It takes me multiple attempts to turn this thing on or off.
Pairing is a nightmare!
It won't pair with my mac mini.
When I tried to pause it the other day, a second audio stream started playing OVER my music.
I had to re-pair these MULTIPLE times on my macbook pro.
I was listening to music from my iPhone, phone rang, pressed button to answer.
Nothing.
Would not connect my call.
Tried again.
Nope.
Pulled my phone out and spoke on the phone.
These things do not work with phone calls.
I've given up on trying to use the supplied case.
Too small to fit these into.
Audio is ok, but I've got a pair of $15 earphones that sound better than these!
I'm returning these.
A complete and utter waste of time and money!

I am BEYOND frustrated right now trying to pair these and wasting time when I could be working right now!
