the only feature of ios 12 that really interests me are performance improvements for my aging devices

My 6S was running pretty good on iOS 11.4.1 and since upgrading I've noticed no difference. Even my iOS 12 benchmarks are a few hundred points below what they were on 11.4.1 a day later so according to those results it's a wash for me so far.

thank you, this is exactly what I was looking for

thank you

here is hoping performance will improve over time until the final release

I use those Tiles, I got rid of them and removed the app. Apparently the bluetooth was being overwhelmed. That fixed my AirPod issues. Now it's connects instantly every time. The last phone I had with battery indicator problems needed a new battery, did you take it in or do some self diagnostics?

Honestly all those problems sound like hardware problems even the Safari and Apple Music crashing; have you tried wiping the phone and setting up as a new phone instead of restoring?
No I haven’t and I can’t or I’ll lose all my data.

honestly do not care about the rest

testing ios 12 with the top notch model iPhone X obviously does not reveal any speed improvements

would be nice to see a dedicated review using an iPhone 5s or 6 focusing on performance only when compared to ios 11
I think ArsTechnica usually does does a review using the oldest supported devices.

iPad Air is better also, keyboard has less lag. I hope they continue this line of work. The key feature of iOS12 could be performance.

Scratch that, after a few hours performance is back to 11, since it is the very first beat I guess they will do it later.

What issues do you have with iOS 11?

I don't seem to have any, curious what problems you're having.

Most likely because you are using latest devices.

Show us how this "NEW" IOS run's on a iPhone 6. Like other's mine worked fine till Apple F'd up the OS or IOS.

Control & Greed is getting out of control with these tech companies
I installed iOS 12 beta 1 on my lowly iPhone 6 (16 GB) on release day. I am very pleased as to performance, stability and battery life. Best beta 1 experience I have ever had. Looking forward to further tweaks and enhancements going forward. I find it amazing that Apple is making iOS 12 available as far back as the iPhone 5s! Compare that to the Android platform where one is lucky to be able to run the latest release on 2 year old devices. Talk about planned obsolescence!

Constant Safari and Apple Music crashing and random visual bugs, springboard crashing and reseting atleast once a week for no reason, widget page bugs while the keyboard will stay behind the widgets, App store constantly loading to install an App and having to restart the phone to be able to download the App again, bluetooth connectivity issues with Airpods where they randomly disconnect or aren't recognized, very bad battery management, suddently dropping 3% at once randomly at from 99% to 96% and from 27% to 24%, online video streaming leaving Safari address bar completely messed up in the top of the page near the clock and battery indicator.
Have you replaced the battery on your device? I would start there if you haven’t. I had excellent experience on iOS 11 up through 11.4 on an iPhone 6, iPhone 7, iPhone X and iPad 5th Gen. Outside of a new battery on the iPhone 6 it was an excellent experience under iOS 11. Of course I’m now on iOS 12 beta 1 on all devices and must say I am very impressed with performance, stability and battery life on all devices. Only issue so far is Safari will occasionally choke on some websites. But this is beta 1 after all!

I'm questioning the use of the word "smarter" here. I guess I'll have to play with it but the fact that Siri can't determine that the name Rae is pronounced 'ray' and is the only occurrence of that phoneme in my address book and it still can't determine who I want to send a message to when I say "message Rae" makes me think it's still not the smartest AI going.

On the other hand, I live a rural lifestyle and don't have that list of urban tasks tied to apps the way that was demoed. I don't commute, buy coffee, put a movie ticket in my Wallet, etc. If Siri can put that together on its own, then cool. Maybe "smarter" is appropriately used.

But Siri knows eight languages. It should be able to learn how Rae is pronounced.

I take it you've tried saying, "That's not how you pronounce Rae" after you hear Siri say it incorrectly?

You will then have several options to choose from to most closely match the correct pronounciation.

The battery points 100% health so it's not an issue with it.

I think Apple could get rid of that swipe up bar at the bottom now, or at least make an opt out feature. It seems to be there on every screen.

Can you give me some examples of innovation released in Android over the last 2 releases? I like to keep an open eye on the competition and see what advantages there are. What were some innovative features in Android Nougat and Oreo?
Sometimes I think things fly over everyone’s head here. Rofl!

Dan From MacRumors,
Please stop sharing your opinion. It does not carry enough weight, objectivity or significance for me to care. The rest of MacRumors has a refreshingly journalistic approach, yet you somehow think that when it comes to videos, it’s OK to abandon the site’s objective, news-based approach and tell us your often snarky opinions. It’s not.

Please match the tone & manner of the rest of the site. That’s what makes MacRumors so beloved.

I am not a heavy ‭phone user, and use a battery saving mode a lot, combined with my wifi only (with a poor reception in my bedroom), but here are some of my thoughts, so far

device
iPhone 5s (battery saving mode activated, wifi, with poor reception, only)

- feels like “almost” a new phone
not as new with the original system, but, would say, iOS 9 level, or, even 8.something, level

- when I have left the ‭phone, untouched, for 20 hours, I have had 91% of battery left

- after disabling background refresh and reduced motion, it became somewhat faster, but not by much

- when scrolling really fast, there is a gentle stutter

- when opening sub menus in SETTINGS, there is a slight delay, as there is while opening apps. Yet, in my experience, much better than ios11

Sorry to hear that you can still notice a lag.
They did a really good job in iPhone 5s, as far as my experience goes.

Would be interested to hear from somebody with iPad mini 2

I love the smarter 'do-not-disturb'. They need to expand this to alarms. Every time I have a day off from work and need to turn of my work alarm...I have to set a reminder for myself to turn it back on. It would be nice to 'mute' a repeated alarm for x hours..a specific amount of time.

I thought that BT bug was addressed in an ios 11 update? Still not fixed? Mine constantly pauses if I'm trying to play my podcasts through my car BT. I've given up now and just drive around with one earphone in
I've used several different iPhones going back to iPhone 5 with different bluetooth enabled vehicles or car kits and aside from my 2012 golf which had a firmware issue that VW fixed I've not had an issue with audio automatically starting when connected. However that was exactly the issue VW fixed.

Then how was this measured:

Anyone else having extremely fast battery drain on the 6S? The percentage was dropping every few seconds.

Safari is extremely snappy. Over all it is great. I love the ease of entering passwords.

Does phone get warm with any noticeable battery drain? Thanks in advance
My iPhone 6S got very warm and the battery was draining pretty fast.

Since updating to iOS 12 is anyone else experiencing problems (no service) with their cellular service even with full bars? Is there a workaround?

Wait...iOS 12 has been released to the public? I checked iPhone and it says iOS 11.4 and up to date. :(
