I'm very similar to you. I've currently have no phone and I'm waiting for the x, if it's sold out I'll buy an eight plus until the x becomes available.

I was on the iPhone 6 for three years until about a month ago. It was sluggish and I couldn’t hear people when talking on the phone. I intended to get the 8 plus for quite a while. Last month, I killed my phone a little too early when my water bottle leaked on it. I’ve been using my 4s in the meantime. This made getting the new phone today, all the more sweeter.

My 7 over heats and no one at apple will replace it. So i plan on using my upgrade program to get an 8 Plus. So I’m getting a bigger size. Better camera. So it will feel more like an upgrade for me.

So how do you like it compared to your 6? I've also been on a 6(+) for three years. The better camera and screen is tempting...

I’m loving the bigger screen and zippiness of the 8 plus. Many are disappointed by it, but it truly is an upgrade for me in terms of size and performance. I’ve been enamoured with it all day. I’ve been averaging three years per phone. So while it is incredibly expensive, it’s an easier pill to swallow knowing I’ll have it for 3 years. I would never spend this much if I had an itch for a new device every year.

3 years per phone upgrade sounds about right. Anecdotally, most people I know upgrade at the same rate.

And for the rest of us, X marks the spot.

Yeah seriously. Usually I like jumping on the first edition. I am still on 6- and the 1k for a phone to me is that line I won’t cross. I think the phone is beautiful(minus the stupid notch) but I can’t justify 1k on a phone.

You guys can help make the phone the best it can so in a year or two when that design is standard and not a ridiculous price us 8 adopters can jump on board.

Yeah I am coming from the 6. I used to upgrade every year- I don’t see the point anymore and now upgrade every few years is fine. So I got the 8 and definitely a lot snappier than the 6. Liking the upgrade on day one so far.

The X seems to be an early 2018 iPhone announced early. As bleeding edge Apple product I expect some major growing pains with how close they're cutting production. My take now is that it's really not ready, but there's no way Apple could release 8 now and X in January when it is ready, because they'd cause a riot. It's a super-ambitious design.. and they are certainly going to fully retool it for fall of 2018 with A12 processors.

Crazy story. I was at the apple store tonigjt and I picked up a demo 8 plus, and it was disconnected from the security cord. For 2 seconds I thought "man I could pocket this thing"

I gave it to a store associate and their eyes were wide with surprise. The guy said this is good karma. I don't believe in karma, but I said hopefully it gets me an X on release date.

I have a 6S, loved the 8, beautiful look and speed. But all I can think about is the oled screen and the dimensions of the X...

I recently watched the conference thinking can they possibly be rehashing the IPhone 6 again and possibly getting excited about this old naff design at all? I was just waiting for the IPhone X.

The 8 is a total waste of space and shouldn’t even exist.
Supposedly Samsung can only supply 70-80 million OLED screens for Apple, so they need another 100+ million of something to satisfy this year’s demand. Some of the 3D-related sensors also could have had trouble hitting 190-ish million qty.

The 8 has most of the same internals as the X and is significantly less expensive, so for many it is a perfectly viable—even preferred—option. Not for you though, and many others, who prefer the top of the line. So Apple can satisfy both groups.

I’d love to see how the sold mix turns out this year; I wonder how different it will be from 1/3, 1/3 and 1/3? From what I understand, 7 vs. 7 Plus was not that far off from 50/50, with Apple being surprised by the strength of Plus sales.

Apple probably should've waited until next spring to release the X. By that time, they would've had enough OLED displays available from Samsung, maybe TMSC would've had better yields with the A11, maybe Apple could've included TouchID version 3 (integrated into the display) and maybe the production cost of the X would've come down enough to allow Apple to make prices more appealing. I know it's a lot of 'maybes', but a few more months could've made a big difference.

We received around 15 8 and 8s phones today for our business. No problem getting them from Verizon. The folks who looked at them didn’t feel it was much of a change from the 7 models. Nice phone, just not a huge upgrade. Sadly we won’t see the X, we aren’t buying them due to the cost.

Lol, I hate when evil thoughts cross my mind like that. I'm always like "Wait, wut?--Did my evil twin just possess me?"  Well anyway it was good of you to call the security problem to their attention. I hope you get your X on time. Best wishes to you!

I'm glad everyone is waiting for the X. I walked right into the store and got a new 256 GB silver 8. I was impatient and got the 7 not too long ago, but the 8 is actually a nice upgrade even from the 7. The screen is nicer, the camera is fantastic (4K @ 60 FPS is awesome), it's noticeably faster, and the glass back is gorgeous. I was having some issues with Bluetooth in my car stereo before, but it's been flawless with the 8. The speakers are loud and clear as well. People may not be as excited for the 8 as the X, but I'm quite content with it. Also, I'm not ready to give up Touch ID yet. Maybe next year. I also just ordered a wireless charging car dock so I can listen to music and charge my phone without having to plug my phone into anything at all. Very happy with this thing.

I’ve seen it notated a couple places, including this article, it’s grippier due to the glass back. That is the exact reason I ordered my 7+ Jet Black last year. It’s way more grippy that the matte aluminum backs. Those are way more slippery to me.

“Noticeable upgrade from the iPhone 7”? Do I detect a tinge of fanboyism in that statement?

People may think the 8 line was pointless, but personally I like it was released and got the 8 plus.

I needed a larger phone and going from a 6 its still a decent upgrade and does what I need.

The only thing the X did which I would have liked is the camera but I didnt think it was worth the extra £230 it would have cost me with discount.

Looks wise its ok (minus headphone jack), but havent had a chance to mess around with it yet due to work.

I think most will appreciate the iPhone 8 who are upgrading to an older model iPhone such as yourself from the iPhone 6. I couldn't justify enough reason to upgrade for my iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8, which is potentially why am up going to the iPhone X. But I think the iPhone 8 will do really well in the long run, and sell the most because it's the most affordable and available.

Goddamn the X is going to be impossible to find.

No one I know preordered the 8.

I'm terrified for the pre-order because I have this gut feeling that I'm not going to get a launch day delivery. Especially given the production delays and weak iPhone 8 reception.

Demand will be down this year for both devices. So many people bought 7’s with all of the free deals last year. Lots and lots of people will not be upgrading this year and for good reason.

Not sure what statistics you’re looking at dude. The amount of users on iPhone 6 or later is staggering. This is expected to be a super cycle.

The iPhone 8 Plus, with its powerful CPU, graphics and 3GB of RAM has more than enough headroom to last you the next two-three years.

This would have been a terrible idea, the higher priced phone is going to make bundles of cash. However, if you were to argue that Apple should have stuck with a 7S phone this year and gone with the 8 next year with the X form-factor, A12 and better production yields, I could maybe understand. But even then, they wouldn’t have been able to price the phone at $1k+. It would seem Apple could stick to selling a 1K phone for years to come.

I wish the 8 Plus was somehow lighter and thinner than the iPhone 7 Plus, but the screen, camera, wireless charging and speed bump is great. I’m leaning towards the iPhone 8 over the X only because I fear the X might be slower due to the display they way that the iPhone 6 Plus was terribly slow due to its limited RAM.
