I'm looking forward to picking up an 8 when the discounts roll in around holiday time this year. There's absolutely no reason to rush out and buy one now, since once the X comes out, that'll take away all of the attention from the 8.
Except that iPhone 8:
+ is $300 cheaper (with the exact same internals as the more expensive model)
+ has Touch ID
+ can be used one-handed
+ doesn't have a big notch cut out of top of apps, videos and photos
Don’t forget subcategory for it having same internals
Because of the features of the phone I’m assuming- the x scored less in the benchmarks test. So in terms of power the Iphone 8 plus and 8 are the top two phones on market. With x being 3rd
I'm having buyers remorse, just got myself an iPhone 8 Plus yesterday and I can't see any real advantage/difference from my iPhone 6s Plus, the only thing is the portrait mode (kinda useless without the front camera like the iPhone X).
Any way, I might go to T-Mobile and return it and hopefully can land an iPhone X on launch day, even if I get it in January, the 8 Plus is not worth it coming from a 6s Plus, I just really need a feel of a new iPhone, the iPhone 8 doesn't give me that feel.
Gotta call this out. I really like my new black 8 for lots of reasons, and the glass looks fantastically sleek. Gorgeous piece of kit, but no one should be out there thinking it’s “grippy.” It’s thin, smooth as, well, glass, and slippery as hell. Needs a bumper/case or you will drop it. Pity ‘cause it’s so pretty.

I got mine too. Beautiful iPhone. Upgraded from a 6S Plus. Feels good in the hand - I’m thinking of skipping a case.I received my 8 plus this morning, and have been enjoying my new toy all day. To each their own!
I just don't understand why you would buy this phone vs the X. Most people buy iphones to have the best experience. There are some really nice Android phones that can be purchased based on price point. I am waiting for the X.

I agree. The 6s is a great phone. I am waiting for the X.
This video is cringeworthy to waste such a good phone... drop tests vs the 7plus...

Like you, love my SE.Honestly, I'm still digging my (relatively) new silver SE.
What's old is new?
iPhone 8 will be the worst seller ever at first, since it is still a lot of money and the X is looming over it. Apple will soon discontinue the 7s to save face, and all will be well. The 7s and the 8s and the X cannot coexist, the 7s have to go. Apple will need to lower the prices of the 8s. But the X will outsell all phones ever. Everybody I know is going for a X.
It's officially iPhone launch day, and MacRumors videographer Matt stopped by the Palo Alto Apple Store this morning to pick up some new products to test out. After running into Apple CEO Tim Cook and COO Jeff Williams, who were also hanging around the store, Matt walked away with a Space Gray iPhone 8 and a Gold iPhone 8 Plus.
Matt went hands-on with both products to give MacRumors readers still on the fence about purchasing a chance to see them up close.

Apple's Gold iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are using a new shade of the color that's almost a meld of last year's Gold and Rose Gold shades. It's a rosier color with more red in it than past iPhone models, and it looks great paired with the glass body. The Space Gray is a darker shade that's almost similar to the Matte Black of the iPhone 7, and it too looks great with that shiny glass finish.
Because of the glass body, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus are heavier than past iPhones, but at the same time, easier to hold, both due to small thickness increases and the grip of the glass itself.
With the new speaker enhancements, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are loud, and the True Tone display looks different, but it's not a major change over previous-generation devices.
Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus are available for purchase starting today online and in Apple retail stores around the world. The iPhone 8 starts at $699, while the iPhone 8 Plus starts at $799.

The proof of that will be about 2 months after the X launches, once all of the hardcore "I don't care what it costs" crowd get their hands on one. I'm on the fence myself to get one, but I definitely know I won't be replacing my 6s with the pretty much identical 8.Really?
Quite a lot of us won't be spending even a dollar this time around. {judging by previous comments here and on other sites}
Could be. I just think it’s a little misleading for the article to suggest that because it’s glass it’s automatically grippy. People should really handle it and see. I was surprised at how slippery it feels. It does reflect quality, but I’m very glad I have a bumper on it.Everybody has different levels of dry to sweaty palms. Obviously, the sweatier the palm the easier the grip. Glass is more effective than aluminum in this case.
I'm sorry but the 7 is nothing like the 6. It's blazingly fast compared to the older 6. My 6 Plus felt slow and constantly had memory issues. The 7/7+ was a HUGE upgrade from the 6. Not so much from the 6s/6s+.I have an iPhone 6. A couple months ago I left it out in the rain and, thinking it was toast, went out and got a 7. I quickly came to the conclusion that the 7 is the same damn thing as the 6. A couple of days later, after a long bath in a bowl of rice, my 6 turned on. I took it to a 3rd party shop and a guy replaced a couple of parts. It cost me 80 bucks and my 6 worked like new. I returned the 7.
I, too, feel a repeated urge to have some shiny new thing. I try to convince myself that a couple of barely significant spec upgrades will justify the money spent. I will have a new toy to play with. I, too, have the bug that brings people to forums like these to weigh out their big decisions with fellow consumers. Thing is, the only winners are Apple, the telecom industry and, the great sickness of greed and consumption that is quite literally destroying the planet.
Children as young as 7, essentially treated as slaves, are mining the cobalt used in these batteries.
We're mining rare earth metals at unsustainable rates.
The list goes on and on. Easy enough to Google.
Still, the Apple A11 Bionic chip in the 8 is definitely more appealing than the A10 Fusion chip in the 7. Wait a sec... No it isn't. I really don't care. The amount of attention I have to pay to notice that this year's model is ever so slightly snappier is silly. To me. I have no plans to stop using a smartphone anytime soon. But I can very easily be happy with the one I have (the one that's essentially indistinguishable in a case from this year's hot new thing) until it comes down to real need, because, well, overconsumption, climate change and human rights.

For what it’s worth, my UPS guy told me he only had 4 to deliver yesterday. In the past he’s had lots and lots on launch day.
So, seems like people are waiting for the X, but I wonder when the delivery slips for many weeks if people will realize that the 8 is not too shabby.
Im looking forward to the new 4.2" iPhone SE2

The only thing tempting about the 8 Plus coming from my 7 Plus is the Portrait Lighting Mode. I use Portrait Mode almost exclusively and would have sone fun with the new lighting feature . But is it worth hundreds of dollars more than the 7 Plus, no way. For anyone with a 6 or 6S or older, it’s a compelling phone.
There is some statistics around that just 2% of iPhone customers buy a new phone every year. I think it only makes sense if you have a family, everyone on a different iPhone, and every year you buy one new iPhone and each iPhone is then handed down, so everyone gets an improved phone.I’m loving the bigger screen and zippiness of the 8 plus. Many are disappointed by it, but it truly is an upgrade for me in terms of size and performance. I’ve been enamoured with it all day. I’ve been averaging three years per phone. So while it is incredibly expensive, it’s an easier pill to swallow knowing I’ll have it for 3 years. I would never spend this much if I had an itch for a new device every year.
