Apple's Maps app received a major overhaul in iOS 10, introducing a new look and some impressive new features. Design wise, Maps looks a lot different, with easier to access controls and destination suggestions that are front and center.

As seen in the video below, when you open the Maps app, you'll immediately see a search window and an overview of your current location. Swiping upwards from the search bar brings up options for places you might want to go, based on recent places you've visited, calendar events, appointments in your Mail app, and general user habits.

Maps in iOS 10 features traffic information en route, with options for alternative routes and routes that avoid toll roads. There's a dynamic view that allows users to zoom in and out to see what traffic conditions look like ahead, and there's an option to search along a route to find gas, food, coffee, and more while on a trip. Maps will automatically adjust routes to incorporate stops, letting you know how much time a detour will add.

When parking, Apple Maps has an awesome new feature that'll automatically remember your car location so you never forget where it is, and a new Maps extensions option for developers will let you do things like book a reservation in OpenTable or call an uber all without leaving the Maps app.

Not sure why Apple still tries to make Apple maps a thing... I only use it because CarPlay doesn't support google maps
You are aware that a great number of people actually is using this app every day... right? Not because it's mandatory on Apple devices but because it's truly useful. As someone said, it's not 2012 anymore and the experience has become really really good! And they [Apple] are STILL improving it.

Nope its because people are lazy and don't want to bother looking in the App store for a better app that can't integrate with iOS due to Apples rules

Oh and my road still isn't on it even though I've lived there over 10 years

Has search improved at all in this new version? For me, sometimes searching within the app yields results in other states or doesn't find similar sounding results especially with Siri. I do use Apple Maps frequently now so I can submit feedback and update POI in my area especially now that I have Carplay.

Been fine for me... Only time I had issues was some of the rural areas or new buildings but I ran google maps at the same time and it told me to do the same thing.

Same thing. It's been great for me and just as accurate, sometimes better than Google Maps.

That's a really good idea for real life, but it would have ruined that great episode of Seinfeld.

LOL great reference (and great episode). I just drop a pin at my car's location. It's nice to have a dedicated feature for it but it wasn't hard before.

My experience has been great even since the beta. I used the beta to drive to a couple REALLY rural places and it has always worked well for me.

Hopefully one of the improvements will be spelling street names correctly. There are many roads in the UK named after saints, but the correct spelling is "St", not "Saint".

I have a serious question, I'm not trying to be a smart ***. Is it really a big deal that it spells out Saint rather than abbreviate it?

And of course the features such as transit information STILL won't work outside of the few countries where Apple has bothered to make deals with data providers, making these "additions" irrelevant to the majority of people.

I'm open to trying it :)

Right now I default to google maps as it is far superior. But things can change! I have hope (albeit it's dwindling these days)

But things can change, just like how many android phones have leaped ahead of iphones in many aspects. The only thing that hasn't changed is siri, it has just sucked for years. yes yes.. I know.. the API is finally out in 2016. I'm crossing my fingers hoping for something in Sept!

Some great additions here for those of us who don't use Google Maps/Waze all that often.

Appreciate it's subject to change but it looks like the UK will be able to reserve restaurants looking at the iOS 10 preview on the Apple UK site...
