Straight up awful. Design sucks. Utility sucks hard. Engraving their stupid "luxury" brand name all over it sucks hardest. Never mind that the power source meant to charge this (the sun) will typically render an iPhone temporarily too hot to function if left out in it for long.

Anyone dumb enough to buy this hunk of garbage deserves to be taken for everything like the sucker they are :(

Ridiculous.

This is not a $4400 iPhone. This is a $1000 iPhone with a $100 solar battery stuck to the back of it, then charging an additional $3100.

FTFY.

Hell, it's not even a $100 battery, as I got a "rugged" 10,000 mAh battery pack with what I'm betting is that exact same solar panel off Amazon for $50 a couple years ago.

Also, what's with the charger being on the back? That means if you want to charge the battery pack, you have to have you screen down. Why didn't they put it on the side? Or on the bottom, offset from the Lightning port?

This thing is a janky mess.

Also, by saying they were inspired by Elon Musk, rather than Nikola Tesla, they're directly opening themselves up for a lawsuit by Tesla, Inc.

Quite ridiculous. Looks like a 1980's mock up of a space age device used in a Dr. Who episode.

Pointless cases unless they somehow made them charge in less than say 10 hours... not sure if it's even possible but I hope so.

Awful at any price and at $4400 really stupid. It is also very inelegant from a technology standpoint as a 30 hour charge is pretty useless. "I'll call you back Thursday; my phone is charging now."

I had to check my calendar to make sure today wasn't April 1st. Only a fool would pay $4400 for this. You'd think for that price they'd at least include some Air Pods.

OMG, Musk, how can You build this! If this is Your engineering skills, than one of those rocketscould Fall on my head ANY TIME!!

just kiddin

I call BS on this story. It looks totally home brewed with a 3D printer. And no amount of solar hardware shenanigans makes it worth over $4000.

That carbon fiber is gross. They are trying to hit "high-end" with what appears to be one of the lowest-end form processes of carbon fiber known in the market. This is just disgraceful. Even carbon fiber vinyl wrap would have looked better. Fire your CF guy before it lays eggs.

Sweet, so they take an iPhone, make it look like crap, make it even more expensive, and that's 'luxury' for those that have more money than taste or brains. 'Cool.'

Wow, the rich sure are desperate. It's not enough that they can afford the best iPhone—they feel upset that most other people can too. They should have an iPhone just for themselves! And therefore you get garbage like this. Less functional! Outdated model! I should start gluing crap together in my workshop too. I'll charge $15,000! Much more exclusive. And you'll even get an iPhone XS! I could whip together a nice looking website with luxury branding and the whole nine yards to make it seem legit. Then rip off another luxury brand's name and slap it on my product. This is essentially the formula that this company used.

It would be more interesting to see if someone could replace the glass back of the iPhone with a solar panel of similar thickness that could deliver a trickle charge throughout the day. The biggest problem I see with that, however, is that most people either have their iPhone in their pocket all day, are inside most of the day, or even if they have a window and direct sunlight, most people leave their iPhone face up so they can view incoming notifications. Kinetic charging is probably more worthwhile, lol, and will still provide little benefit. You'd be better off with a gold-plated battery case.

It was mentioned earlier, but the company selling this, Caviar, is a Russian company and it's priced in Rubles with USD conversion. There are other pictures of it that actually make it LOOK better (more gold coloring), but the price is ridiculous. Maybe Russians are doing better, financially, than Americans?

Their Russian site has some pretty extravagant iPhones there, with prices to match.

That must be the most ugly phone mod I have ever seen.

Tesla was not funded by Musk, by the way.

Tesla was very much funded by Elon. About 70M of his after tax Paypal money went into Tesla. 10M went into SolarCity which was founded by his cousins and 100M went into SpaceX.

Musk is not a founder in Tesla at its incorpotation date since he joined as an investor only role initially.
