A foolish way to spend one’s money. It isn’t even have fashion appeal. You can buy a new flagship iPhone and the next two generations and still have money left over for a wireless charging pad for both your car and home.

But there a probably a couple dozen geeks out there who will buy this “Tesla” iPhone X by Caviar.

Heck you can almost buy a kilo of Olma beluga sturgeon if you want to spend your money on something extravagant.

Looks like something from Fallout and it's solar powered, what's not to love about it? The 30 hours still show we got a long way to go with regards to solar panel technology though.

Wait, there are only 24 hours in a day, and only half of that is daylight. So you can’t really ever fully charge the thing by solar? What is the point?

That's genius! Put a powerbank with solar panel on the back of an iPhone.
I mean I get that some rich people spend money on expensive watches and similar stuff as status symbol (of their wealth), but that's not the case with this device as it's neither looking good nor actually useful.
I want to see Drop Test results for this!
Result: Floor broken. (Phone can't be any uglier, so we don't care about that.)

I'm a survivalist & technology nut.
Wherever I go, I have a bag with whatever I need to get by for a few days completely unaided.

For solar electricity, I use Goal Zero products. (The number designations are approximate watts or watt/hours as appropriate.)

My smallest bag includes a Nomad 7 solar panel and Guide 10+ 4-AA battery pack. Charges in 3-5 hours direct sunlight, in turn charges an iPhone 6S 1.5 times. Also can charge flashlight, Watch, and a few other tiny gadgets.

My office bag includes a Nomad 20 panel and Sherpa 100 battery with inverter. Charges with around 8 hours full sun, in turn battery runs a MacBook Pro about 5 hours, whose own battery then lasts another 6+.

When traveling by car, I take a Boulder 100 folding panel and Yeti 400 battery with inverter. Charges battery in about 8 hours, and can run the MacBook completely from direct solar. Have cell signal, work anywhere.

I've also had an electric car for 2 years, and investigated the Tesla Solar Roof.

Having experimented with all that for years, my take on the Caviar Tesla iPhone X for >$4000 is: what a waste of resources, and an insult to the Tesla brand. For $100 you can get the Guide 10+ & Nomad 7 kit at https://www.goalzero.com/shop/solar-kits/guide-10-plus-nomad-7-plus-kit/ with far more capability, still small enough to keep handy without permanently bolting it to the phone.

Ha! This reminds me of the first Iron Man costume Tony Stark built in the cave while imprisoned. This looks like its built from scrap metal. Perhaps these guys will come out with a red/gold refined version as well?

...
According to Caviar, the Tesla iPhone X is so named because the solar charging panel and battery pack built into the back of the device were inspired by Elon Musk. There's no actual association with Tesla aside from the name and the solar design.

SHAME
First, inform yourself who is Tesla
Besides inadequate used (abused) name Tesla, because there is no connection to Elon. Idi*ts.
It's rude to the pain

At least if it emulates the real Tesla they won't be able to manufacture any in quantity so fortunately one is unlikely to see one of these design abominations in the wild......

That most don't know (including MacRumors) this is likely named for Nikola Tesla, and not the car company is sad. And embarrassing.

Tesla, the company, is named after the scientist Nikola Tesla.

Tesla is also a unit of measurement of magnetic field strength.

This company could have easily said it named its product after Nikola Tesla.

However, their web-page said it was inspired by Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, and Nikola Tesla:

You mean I have to pay them $4400 for an ugly phone that takes 30hrs to charge and burns my hand? Shouldn't they be paying me for such a burden?

Wait, there are only 24 hours in a day, and only half of that is daylight.

Fairbanks, and our latitudinal brethren would disagree.

In fact, wouldn’t most of the world, except maybe Seattle, get more than 12 hours of sunlight in the summer months?
