Even though the phone is kinda ugly (strange dimensions on that notch), the hardware is still solid (of course not as fast as A12, but nothing is). big downside is still Android. Used it for a year after 8 years with ios, even though the phone it ran on was good, Android is still really crappy compared to ios. now back at ios with a Max. ios is far more lean than android.

I hope someone before page 6 posted on the absurdity of only 64 or 128 GB storage available, especially on a device that shoots 4K video. Apple would be roasted for this.

Apple doesn't offer free, unlimited, full res image/video cloud storage.

Yes, and when the majority of quality reviewers say the pixel is the best, that makes your opinion in the minority. But yes it's subjective based on who you want to win.

Holding on to a straw, eh? The Pixel camera is subjectively better - slightly - for some reviewers that agree all those cameras are great. And on a phone worse in every way compared to the iPhone, except the price. They are both good phones, but some people want someone to beat Apple so much, suddenly, nothing else matters.

And that’s not taking into account the fact that a lot of people may actually prefer iPhone’s camera. And the much better photo editing apps on iOS.

Overall, this seems like a pretty nice update of the Pixel 2 with a number of features I wish Apple would have included on the iPhone XS. If I was forced to use an Android phone for work, this would be a leading candidate.

Ooh, does the pixel allow streaming recording of 4k to he cloud. That’s awesome, you can record hours of 4k as local storage doesn’t matter, right /s

Why are all android manufacturers adding the stupid notch? The reason why Apple included that monstrosity on the iPhone is because the FaceID hardware can't fit into a thing bezel...

Having notches out of the display makes them look like high end Apple devices and helps sell more phones. Consumer “it looks like an iPhone but is cheaper, I’ll buy that then”

I'm not denying Android copies from iPhone. My point was they both copy from each other, so to single one out over the other isn't being objective IMO.
Both copy each other but right now we are discussing this case in which was Google’s turn to copy.

As soon as the XR becomes available for Pre-Order, NO ONE will be talking about the Pixel 3 family !

While the Pixel 3 smartphones may have a 10-15% better camera design & implementation, the A12 wins hands-down against the Snapdragon 845 !

IMO, Google screwed-up, they should have offered one really good 5" OLED smartphone @ $649.

That's their market, NOT trying to slightly under-cut where AAPL is at.

Their Wide-Angle Selfie lens could become a Trend Setter, however ... lots of Coin-generating potential with that, especially with Fitness Game apps.

Actually the notch is there so you can have an edge to edge screen that goes from the bottom to the top. The notch is simply a reduced bezel on the top.

I don’t see a micro sd card slot. That’s the biggest issue with the phone I can see, 128GB will not cut it for many, and this is when the note 9 can do 1tb and apple offers 512.

Put in such a good camera and don’t offer at least expansion , poor choice in my opinion

Pixel offers android users a pure android experience, and people wanting that I can’t see jumping to iOS which is locked down.

Don't even get me started on how all other companies are fighting over Apple Notch™ like baboons and macaques, and can't for the love of god decide what it should look like.
Don't worry about the notch. I'm sure that there is a Patent Troll out there about to file suit against Apple for several Billion $$$$ for violating the Notch patent that they bought for $5 in a fire sale. Apple will be forced to pay up and remove the notch. Then all will be right with the world (sarcasm)

Oh, you mean data slurping to Google in all its glory then? Their advertising AI dragon needs feeding you know and these things are a win-win for them. Not only do they get your data but they fool you into paying them lots of money for the honour of doing so.

I strongly dislike all phone notches. (I will not buy a phone with one) However, at least Apple and some others are trying to keep it limited. Google should have just had more bezel. This is REALLY poor design.

It's kind of annoying that my $1500 phone has a worse camera than a $800 phone.

The images they used in the presentation seems off... The way the iPhone was supposed to be the worst smartphone camera ever made suddenly seemed off.

I continue to be astounded by the way people rail against the iPhone notch without acknowledging its functionality while giving notched screens like this one a pass without acknowledging how much more invasive and how much less functional it is. Just goes to show how many companies out there wait for Apple to design their hardware for them.
I want to be clear, much of the Android community thinks this is awful. To be honest, there's not a lot of "giving them thenoass" going in at all.

I do legitimately wonder what the hell the pinpoint was here. This, the chin, and following suit with dropping the headphone jack made thisndecice an easy pass for me. Would've loved to update the work from from the original pixel, but it's still chugging along.

It seems as if no other company (except Apple) has any idea what good design is. Like zero idea.

I mean look at that hideousness.

Unbelievable

Did you just call a phone that looks like Apple's ugly yet Apple did good design? Lol

I love how you want to make small issues VERY BIG ISSUES. The yellow screen has always been proven to manufacturing and the glue having to heal.

And where is this proof? This has been nothing more than a ridiculous rumor/theory which comes out at every Apple product launch. Hilarious!

you saved 100$, and having much uglier phone, half the time of software update, cheaper materials (not stainless steel, especially garbage back), low privacy Android
there, I just summed up for you guys

Speaking as a X user.

Yeah, stainless steel that you need to keep inside of case, because phone is a ****ing rocking chair, and speaking about ugly, I think notch is still present on X/Xs/Xs Max.

but Google has implemented an HDR+ mode that's similar to Apple's Smart HDR for combining multiple shots into one much better image.

I just want to point out that Google have done this since before the Pixel line (I have it on my Nexus 5X, soon to be replaced by an iPhone XR) although they have improved the algorithm a lot since.

It is not similar to Apple's Smart HDR except that both combine multiple images into one. Apple takes images at different exposure levels like traditional HDR is done, and then they do some smart algorithmic stuff to get the most out of it.

Google in the other hand take a series of underexposed images (all with the same exposure) and then blends them algorithmically to brighten them up while protecting the highlights. This way they keep the ISO down, and since noise is random they can also run an algorithm to remove noise as it will be different in every equally exposed frame frame. And this noise removal is seriously impressive. On my older Nexus 5X this processing takes a while, so you get to see the image without HDR+ while it's doing it's magic, and when it's done all the noise is just gone. The Pixels do a really awesome job with low light scenes (which my Nexus 5X does not) although they tend to underexpose in bright light. I hope they have fixed this with the Pixel 3.

Mark Levoy, the guy behind this technology, is talking about is in this "How Google Built the Pixel 2 Camera" video on YouTube:

He also has an excellent series of lectures about photography posted on YouTube for those interested in the history and technical sides of photography:

HDR+ is without a doubt the feature I'm going to miss the most going to an iPhone, and I didn't even have the really good implementation from the Pixel line on mine.

You are a fascinating specimen... See, I think iOS is ugly. But it's the simple things that keep people simple. S9 hideous?! You do have some rather different taste don't you.

Thanks, Hannibal Lecter.
But I think you'll find most people are "fascinating" if that's your take.

A notch AND a chin, it’s almost like they don’t know how to bend the OLED screen internally like Apple do so there is no need for the chin for the screen connector. The 3 has a massive chin and forehead. Like a skinny iPad, LOL.
My Android friends say the front facing speaker is worth it.

I use a stainless steel X and I would never put it in a case. Cases completely ruin the sleek, seamless aesthetic, as well as the overall experience for me.

I am sorry, but how the **** is iPhone X design sleek? It's a rocking chair design.

There is also HDR+ Enhanced which works like a traditional HDR.
HDR+ is just the default setting.

"What do you think of the iPhone XS's latest competitor?"
"Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip"

Yeah the answer is.. no, its even slower than last years iPhone X lol
