I think I agree. Is this better than the XR? I guess it's around the same price.

Android is just an ugly, ugly OS. It's looks horrible but has more customisation than IOS.
Android phones in general are just ugly as well. Are Samsung and Google trying their hardest to make the ugliest phone this year? I think Samsung win hands down though. That is one hideous phone the S9.

Apple camera still is subjectively the best in daytime outdoor photos, but still isn't the best for low light photos. It seems much better now than in the past though.

Apart from that and the smart assistant that transcribes calls (Pretty neat idea, yet I bet it's just another way for Google to get info from your telephone calls), I see nothing on this phone that would make you want to use one. As others have said, the notch on this thing is horrible.

Can't wait until notches are a thing of the past.

You are a fascinating specimen... See, I think iOS is ugly. But it's the simple things that keep people simple. S9 hideous?! You do have some rather different taste don't you.

Jesus. Probably the ugliest device ever. Why pick this over a Note 9 or One Plus.

Wow, the hate on here is real! I’d be satisfied with either the XS or the Pixel 3.

LOL whut?
Pixel 3: 5.5", SD845, 4GB RAM, 64GB, $800.
Pocophone F1: 6.1", SD845, 6GB RAM, 64GB, $300.

Google is even greedier than Apple.

Either Xiaomi is taking a hit on each Pocophone, or there’s a lot of fees they don’t have to pay since it isn’t a US release, or some combination of both.

I do have to laugh at the way Android phone makers mock Apple's changes (no headphone jack, notch) shortly before copying those exact changes because they realize that copying the iPhone is the only way they can succeed. I'm not sure why they don't see that this happens every time. Next time Apple decides to get rid or add something, Google and Samsung should just praise it and assure their customers that their next phones will be Apple clones.

Sorry but I don't wanna pay for a device, where I have just a better camera than the iPhone and give all my data for free.

That article doesn’t say anything about selling users information. Furthermore developers of 3rd party email clients like Spark, Airmail, Dispatch and many others are able to “read” your email so that they can offer certain features to their users. Also it doesn’t say anything about user identifiable information. I suppose it could be part of it but I’m not sure. Bottom line is if I install a 3rd party email client I expect them to have access to my emails for the purposes I mentioned above.

Also it doesn’t say anything about user identifiable information.

I mean it literally says it in the quote I replied to you with “leaving 8,000 unredacted emails to be read by employees”. The WSJ article is behind a paywall but if you search and come in through a search engine you’ll find even more explicit confirmation that personally identifiable information was not redacted in those mails.

That article doesn’t say anything about selling users information

Ok, so in the last post you were convinced that selling that information would be the death of Google

Google does not in any way sell your information to anyone. When companies pay Google to advertise, all they can do is tell Google what demographic, age group, sex, geographic area etc...that they want the ads to target. But the advertiser never ever knows who you are. That would actually put Google out of business. It is in their best interest to keep your information as secret as possible.

But now you think they’ll give it away for free instead, which somehow won’t be their death. Makes sense.

Anyway, on-topic. These devices are garbage. 32Gb eMMC tablet for only slightly less than iPad Pro.

Why are all android manufacturers adding the stupid notch? The reason why Apple included that monstrosity on the iPhone is because the FaceID hardware can't fit into a thing bezel...

This post sounded like a Google hardware engineer defending the ugliest phone of 2018.

Seriously, it's objectively hideous and the spyware that is Android is a big enough reason to not buy it.

I'd literally rather use an iPhone SE over the Pixel 3.
Typical way to promote an Android phone: I’m an Apple fan. I have an iPhone, but this [Android phone] is better.

Exactly. I got into an argument with some Android fanboys on another site who want to act like Google is still wearing a white hat while Apple is the one wearing a black hat. I don't trust Google at all. The number one reason I'm with Apple is because of security and then stability. That's why I am with Apple, and as long as the hardware is in the same ballpark with Android phones I see no reason to switch.
Of all the four big tech companies, (Apple, Google, Facebook and Amazon), I’d agree that Apple is the least sleazy

I have an iPhone 7+ I'm looking forward to upgrading, probably to the Max. I wasn't a big fan of the notch design when I first saw it, but I get that it's necessary for Face ID.

But -- and correct me if I'm wrong -- Google's not using Face ID or anything like it.

So it's a big honking phone with a large notch that includes a second front-facing camera for wider selfies? Because I guess what everyone wanted from their own selfies was a wider viewing angle? I say "their own" because let's be honest none of us really want other people's selfies.

And then a chin because front-facing speaker now? Like the only thing more obnoxious than selfies isn't people who don't keep their phones on silent?

Actually, the Pixel XL’s notch houses a second forward-facing speaker. The forward-facing speakers probably direct sound better than edge-mounted ones. Speakers are still useful—and not a nusance in the hands of considerate persons.

I suppose the wide angle selfie lens is for people with actual friends—not lonely narcissists.

Thank god I dont own a $1,500 that has low signal and piss yellow screen.......

I love how you want to make small issues VERY BIG ISSUES. The yellow screen has always been proven to manufacturing and the glue having to heal. If the screen has been bad, apple replaces the phone asap at a store versus Google saying "the screen isnt bad" like the pixel 2 xl that had the worse screen ever AND takes up to a week to get a replacement. I know this cause I had to deal with a bad nexus 5 at launch and i know people who had have DOA pixels and same result.

As for the signal, it was a software issue AND fixed.

I have neither of this issues and many of us owners dont, so what are you complaining about again?

How about you worry about pixel 3 xl back scratching without even being in pockets yet. MKBHD and a bunch of others had micro scratches on theirs without even having it in pockets, mainly just on top tables and stuff. One person had obvious scratches that made NO sense but he found out resting the USB C cable on the back causes scratches on it. Worry about this which is a MAJOR issue and wont be fixed just like pixel 2 xl screen.

They’re trying to maximize screen space, just like Apple. The fact that their notches don’t house as many sensors is beside the point.

Google's Pixel 3 is priced at $799, while the Pixel 3 XL is priced at $899, making both devices more affordable than the iPhone XS and XS Max.
you saved 100$, and having much uglier phone, half the time of software update, cheaper materials (not stainless steel, especially garbage back), low privacy Android
there, I just summed up for you guys

I think I speak for the majority of us here when I say, this is a really, reaally hideous phone.

It seems only Apple (and a couple other companies) know how to not have a chin. And the iPhone X notch is the nicest looking slimmest notch compared to all the copycats. Why is that notch on the Pixel 3 so DEEP? Why is that chin so big? Is it that hard to emulate what Apple is doing? iPhone X/XS/XS Max really are gorgeous phones in comparison.

Google today announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL, which are designed to compete with Apple's new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.

MacRumors was in attendance at Google's fall unveiling event and was able to get some hands-on time with the new devices, and we did a quick comparison to the iPhone XS Max.

The 5.5-inch Google Pixel 3, which has no notch, is similar in size to the 5.8-inch iPhone XS, while the 6.3-inch Pixel 3 XL is similar in size to the iPhone XS Max and takes some design cues from Apple's devices.

As we saw in leaked images and heard in rumors leading up to the Pixel 3 XL's debut, it has a deep notch on the front housing its front-facing camera system. The rest of the display isn't quite edge-to-edge due to a chin at the bottom that's missing from Apple's devices.

The Pixel 3 XL continues to use a single-lens 12-megapixel rear camera system, but Google has implemented an HDR+ mode that's similar to Apple's Smart HDR for combining multiple shots into one much better image. Dual 8-megapixel cameras are available on the front of the device, and Google touted a new group selfie feature with a wide-angle lens able to capture 184 percent more than the iPhone XS.

Inside, the new Pixel smartphones are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip, 4GB RAM, and up to 128GB of storage. The Pixel 3 offers a 2,915 mAh battery, while the XL model has a 3,430 mAh battery.

Google's Pixel 3 is priced at $799, while the Pixel 3 XL is priced at $899, making both devices more affordable than the iPhone XS and XS Max. The new devices are available for pre-order starting today ahead of an October 18 launch.

What do you think of the iPhone XS's latest competitor? Stay tuned to MacRumors because we'll have a more in-depth comparison video pitting the Google and Apple smartphones against one another next week.
