That watch is just a debacle. WTF are they thinking?!?! Even worse than the AW Ultra, and that shouldn't be possible.

To be fair I think Google is edging Apple on the phone hardware front. The design, especially the rear cameras, is just much nicer than the iPhone Pro’s swollen camera bumps. No wobble when placed on a table, the matt aluminium looks great and is lightweight and the subtle curves make such a difference in the hand.

The watch on the other hand is clearly generations behind where Apple is.
Is the bump that much lower? Or, you just prefer them in a line over in a corner?

Even worse is to see a site like GSMArena.com polishing/squeezing the G-nut hard with no less than 8 separate articles or posts on the main page for today ONLY.

I pray macrumors does NOT become like them.
I like the story that says “Google to make a record number of units… aims to double sales”. Not hard given the sales of the prior generation. :)

Hey, Google… My grandmother called and said she wanted her vintage TV bezel back.

The Pixel 6 camera area looks so much better with its one single black piece. Don’t know what they’re thinking with the redesign.

I have had nexus and Pixel phones before, all have been top notch and very up to date, I loved them. These new phones from Google also seem elegant and will work supremely well. Love the watch, the pilots display that was shown in the clip almost looked analogue. The watch looked easy to use and feature rich, the bezel doesn't bother me, same as the notch didn't bother me on an iPhone, it is well disguised.

$350?!!!! Any iPhone owner who buys this over an Apple Watch is an absolute fool! You can actually get an Apple Watch for cheaper than this that still has a bigger screen!

I genuinely expected this to come in right around $199, maybe $249, but that price for such middling performance is just silly unless you must have a Google branded watch for whatever weird reason.

I feel the watch really is just an improved Fitbit, not so much an Apple Watch competitor. A round diameter 31mm display makes it... around... half the usually screen real-estate as the smallest Apple Watch, which in itself has limited utility due to the readability of the screen size. I feel the only selling point this has is "it isn't an Apple product but on paper has most of the same utility".

You don't need to be a professional critic to see that bezel is big because it is THAT big.
“Wehhh the bezel on the iPhone is too big”
3 yrs later:
“Wehhh the phone is too thin. I can’t stand Ive!”
3 yrs later
“Wehhh the camera bump on the 14 is too much”
+
“Wehhh this ultra watch is too clunky…I don’t like the larger wheel”

The Pixel Watch looks beautiful to be honest. But never buy the first generation. Going to wait on the next version.
Understanding gen 2 and 3 products build off of gen 1 products, if a gen 1 product is good, I am certainly ok with buying it knowing the next generations will bring improvements. The Apple Watch Ultra is a good gen 1 product in my book, but not for everyone. Sometimes it’s 👍 ok.

Interesting pill and hole punch shape on the back there…looks very familiar. 🤔

The watch design is abysmal. The bezels and circular design make it look cheap and dated. Smartwatches don’t make sense in circular shape. Took many compromises in showing content.
I would never buy a watch that isn’t circular in design. It doesn’t scream Apple Watch, which I like, and could easily blend it as a standard watch. Still wish Apple would offer a circular design in case I ever do try an iPhone again.

As for content, there’s no compromise in my world. I don’t want to end up reading a novel on my phone. Just the time, a quick glance at a short text (the kind most people get) and relevant notifications in. Quick glanceable information is what a smart watch should be for. This fits that mold.

Now the 4 year old chip is what gives me pause. For that, I shall wait for reviews to drop.

The phone I’m all over, I love my 6 Pro. Gonna see how this refinement of the whole package shapes up in its second iteration.

google hardware is terrible
tbh that's not my experience, what's terrible is their hardware *support* length. For example I picked up a pixel c tablet when they had a developer sale to play with as I needed some android hardware at the time to test some work. The hardware was solid, well built, great tablet. They dropped OS support for it after a couple years, I kept it around using CyanogenMod/LineageOS for a bit, and it's actually currently sitting out waiting for me to play with putting a straight linux distro on it. That dropped support convinced me never to buy first party hardware from google ever again, not because of the hardware but because their length of support is utter crap.

Was looking forward to the pixel watch.

But my Apple Watch ultra is just too damn magnificent and B. 41mm? I am a 6”4, 267lb dude.
Cant wear bae size watches lol

Next year I’ll look their way again.

I own both the iPhone 14 PM and the Pixel 6 Pro. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

I’ll challenge that of software 1yr later between the 13 PM/13P with Pixel 6 Pro or any other previous pixel, nexus device.

Even if we count out how many software projects of production software Google has cancelled in that year time frame - a bad habit by Google. Also we could ignore it here messaging app changes as well.

I don’t think you see what you’re ignoring on the Google side.

Round dial smart watch. Old school watch remastered for new technology very poorly. Prefer the Apple Watch design. Fits the new technology far better and from this perspective looks better. The reason for a smart watch, not so much time, smart functionality. Apple Watch Design perfect.
