I’ll challenge that of software 1yr later between the 13 PM/13P with Pixel 6 Pro or any other previous pixel, nexus device.

Even if we count out how many software projects of production software Google has cancelled in that year time frame - a bad habit by Google. Also we could ignore it here messaging app changes as well.

I don’t think you see what you’re ignoring on the Google side.
The article was talking about the new Pixel phones (and watch), and my comment was about their phones. Google’s phone software is superior. Despite Apple having the clear advantage in hardware, in everyday use the Pixel feels faster. The Pixel Android operating system overall is more advanced by years than iOS. Notifications, settings, widgets, alarm, keyboard, assistant, translation, still camera, to name a few, are better on the Pixel (and it’s noticeable every day). iPhone’s screen is (even) better, and so is its video camera. Apps are overall better on the iPhone, it’s overall more reliable, and its interoperability with other Apple devices all tip the scale (for me) in favor of Apple.

As far as canceled projects, Google is full of them. There’s certainly a lot to talk about on that front. But the iPhone doesn’t have a number row on the keyboard. Regarding phones, we can start there. :)

Several of the jokes about the bezel are truly funny. And I'm in agreement with those who say they would never use any kind of hardware made by Google.

However, I just glanced at my barely two-year-old Apple watch SE, and I gotta say ... it's got a fairly prominent bezel. I love my Apple watch, and its bezel doesn't bother me in the least.

Strange to me that an Apple website is reviewing products other than Apple's. I can't think of another website that does that sort or thing.

Watched Google's presentation as I'm always curious regarding new technology.

But I could not help but come away with the impression that for the most part the event felt pedestrian flat.

Maybe, because Google had themselves leaked so much info out about each of the products there was not much left to talk about.

Only the guy talking about the camera lenses and photography capabilities of the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, seem to have enthusiasm and a story to tell.

I would never buy a watch that isn’t circular in design. It doesn’t scream Apple Watch, which I like, and could easily blend it as a standard watch. Still wish Apple would offer a circular design in case I ever do try an iPhone again.

As for content, there’s no compromise in my world. I don’t want to end up reading a novel on my phone. Just the time, a quick glance at a short text (the kind most people get) and relevant notifications in. Quick glanceable information is what a smart watch should be for. This fits that mold.

Now the 4 year old chip is what gives me pause. For that, I shall wait for reviews to drop.

The phone I’m all over, I love my 6 Pro. Gonna see how this refinement of the whole package shapes up in its second iteration.
Ok you’re a Google Pixel user. I understand why you disagree with me. If I wanted a conventional watch I’d wear one. I want and wear an Apple Watch and prefer having more content, more complications and I enjoy the square design, especially on my Ultra. Different strokes for different folks. Not a fan of the very dated design of the Watch, and I have never liked circular smartwatches.

I watched the Google event…it was like a high school presentation. Some of the features on the phone look interesting, especially the camera and AI, but the rest of the products scream outdated and it was appropriate to have a beige tone during the event. It was quite blah.

Its really a matter of preference really. We are basically in that era again of Mac vs Windows. Sure, in 1984, Macintosh 128K with the pioneering graphical user interface was way ahead of Windows 1.0. It was still debatable by Windows 3.0, but certainly by Windows 95 it got good enough for most users need.

Its the same with the iPhone. In 2007, if you were to present to me a Blackberry vs the 2007 iPhone, I am going to go Apple. But by Android 4.0, smartphones from Samsung and other brands became good enough.

What keeps me firm on iPhone is the ecosystem; especially iMessage. I love that when I take a photo on my iPhone, it seemlessly shows up on my Mac and iPad. Jus the other day, I discovered you can use your Apple Watch to take selfies using the front and back camera. Those synergies remain unbeatable. And, Apple supports its hardware for a long, long, long time.

“Feels” faster - feeling is an emotional and subjective state not a fact. For anyone about anything so I have to ignore that as valid even if that’s valid for you, we cannot debate that fairly and logically.

Notifications - please be clear specific and concise how this is better, not how it’s presented.

Settings - same question as above please. Wi-Fi settings are needlessly complex especially with corporate ssid joining since AndroidOS 12. It’s unnecessary to state not to validate a certificate if doing so is unnecessary- the system should figure this out without user intervention NOT require it. That isn’t being more advanced it’s needless complexity.

Alarm. Again same question to define this please. Having more ok possibly and if that works for many sure.
But the basics: days/week varying alarms, titles of such, snoozing, based on health needs for peacefully being awakened all should be there. It’s an alarm not needed to be over glorify - but if I’m missing something be precises console and specific. Pls.

Keyboard options, widgets, and assistant = you win there. I must say where Google fails on keyboard is in handicap assistance where is lags - particular for no physical input and vocal guidance for those that MUST/NEED to rely on such, Google is behind here.

Still camera - argumentative and I cannot debate this as I’m no shutterbug to even understand the nuances and specifics here. Depends in the model year and subject lighting etc etc. software upgrade as well can significantly affect this. What may appear to be better to some, a few or many could look more artificial to others. The issue with debating camera quality is there isn’t a full proper non argumentative baseline across all reviewers or measurements.

Also regarding camera are we including ProRAW here??? Can the Pixel do RAW natively in the OS or you need third party apps?

Really impressive for the hardware you get for $599, and particularly the trade in deals that they are offering! Heck, they offer $345 for an iPhone X!

Wow you just found out about remote camera pic/video taking of iPhone cameras using the Watch?! Been there since WatchOS 3 I believe.

The ecosystem is lovely ain’t it?

Massive leap with iCloud from MobileMe days.

Well, yes, Apple did the same thing with the first Apple Watch. Once it caught on, then they had a few years to work on how to decrease the size of the bezels and when they had a solution they released it. Then, improved on that a few years later.

It’s just how iterative product development is done.
Right, but was there a mainstream Samsung Watch or any other smartwatch on the market at the time?

Until Apple allows to fully customize the launcher natively, you will forever be a servant to the experience Apple thinks you should have. I have both iPhone and Pixel and the fact that I can bring up my wallet or any important app in the tap or swipe I choose, edges out iOS for me. 90% of the apps I need can be found on both and still have the same functionality.

The phone looks decent for the price point. The watch is terrible, but I think the Apple watch is terrible too, hence I will never own a smart watch, but that's just me, I guess.

Launchers. Yes some are great. Seems after a few seasons another has the popularity and that’s good for many. I tried that in Oreo (4?) and want too impressed especially this that imbedded file managers that took over default ones adding needles complexity. That was early days so I’m sure much more robust implementation is current the last few years.

Still the most major issue and failure where AndroidOS fails regardless of anything you come up to claim it’s better is device support: unless you buy a Samsung, Oppo or whatever is tops now

… those 90% apps are NOT compatible across devices with the same chipset specs, same manufacturer, same limited model range … the. Said apps will NOT work, cause many developers or development houses/teams don’t care to (nor have the $$ to purchase) to support the various models available.

Sure AW started with larger bezels. I think the difference is, you can read more content on the AW, even back in the day. This design being round, with bezels that look to be a 1/4” and a display that looks like it’s between a nickel and quarter size, really looks funny.

Design wise as far as looking like a timepiece, it’s not bad looking. But the bezel makes me laugh.

What an odd video about the watch... "I like it because the faces are designed to not call attention to the massive bezels." Uh, yay? They managed to vaguely hide the ugliness, kind of? It's built dumb, but they don't call too much attention to the dumbness, so I am happy? Odd, man. Odd.

Yeah went to go check out other hands on videos and it is by far the best looking Android Watch on the market. I was hoping to get one but it is Android only. It is Apple level design. Very elegant. This is what I would imagine a round Apple Watch to look like. Simply beautiful.
