It does. I've been coming to MacRumors near daily since I was 14 (32 now). I think I remember logical discussion in the past. Now it's fanboys slurping each other. Really, really annoying and every time I venture into the forums I remember why I stopped making a habit of that a long time ago.
It feels like I'm reading children validate their purchases in the most reductive way possible.
I straight up would not have been able to do this on an iPhone:
(from last weekend)
I have my SIM (well, eSIM) in my iPhone. But I carry a Pixel every time I'm intending to shoot photos at night. Now I have a cool acrylic print Milky Way shot that
I took, courtesy of an Android phone, hanging in my room. That print wouldn't exist if I only had an iPhone.
Apple's computers and other electronics were once aspirational products... Now they have propagated to the point where they can feel rather pedestrian.
Apple still ties a nice bow around most of what they do. They still lead the pack in overall user experience, but the gap between what they offer and the competition has seriously narrowed.
The erosion is frankly a sign of lethargy from confused and frustrated internal struggles. Every company has challenges... but genuinely... I don't see Apple as being in the prime it once was, and perhaps it may never achieve that status again. That said, who else could come into the market and genuinely duplicate what Apple did under Jobs direction? Currently.... no one.
Apple has a truly fascinating story and they have genuinely lead innovation in areas that otherwise would have never seen the slightest bit of structure.
Regular OS updates on phones??? Does anyone even remember what it was like when we just had Windows CE and Palm and Blackberry and Symbian? Good lord.... I do not miss those days at all.
Graphics acceleration on the user interface? Apple did it first and did it best.... until very very recently.
Took years for Android to catch up... and I do mean YEARS.
Windows took literal decades when compared to MacOS.
There is a genuine prestige and pedigree that Apple is born from but that doesn't mean it can't suffer the effects of "inbreeding".
So if any one else offers an alternative design or a potential for innovation.... it should be considered... even if only to simply conclude the way they are doing it is best... but doing an honest evaluation is always warranted.
This BEZEL mockery (as amusing as it is) is frankly entirely misleading. I am curious what Google's approach to the user interface on the watch is. Similarly I am curious about the hardware.
I won't be dropping my iPhones, Macs, iPads or Apple Watches any time soon... but I won't deny myself a Pixel, competing watch or windows or linux or Chrome OS machine. They're all worth a look....
And if you play any games... then frankly... PC (or console) is still the way to go... for now. What ever is "best" as a single platform for any one individual will depend on their needs and priorities... but I still to this day find it too much of a compromise to be isolated to one platform only for all circumstances.
