Hands-On With iOS 27's Siri AI

I accept that as a simple chatbot it’s nothing special and I revert to one of the others for some of what I want. But do you have any Apple products? If so, is there another AI product that can search across all of the messages, emails, photos and files on my iPhone and find a single piece of information that I’m looking for? And then arrange a meeting with relevant people to discuss it? Or one that takes natural language and turns it into a shortcut? If there is, I’d be interested to try it. If not, Siri AI is a game changer.

I have many Apple products and I haven't enabled AI on my Mac mini because there is no compelling case for me to use it at this point.

You can supposedly bypass the wait list and turn it on using this Terminal command. Enter the command, supply your password and restart your Mac.

sudo defaults write "/Library/Preferences/FeatureFlags/Domain/GenerativeModels.plist" "EnhancedSiriWaitlist" -dict-add Enabled -bool NO

Yup, I did just that on my M2 MacBook Air last week and it worked!

Still on the waitlist on my iPhone 16 though; joined the waitlist on Tuesday

Anyone else noticed "Ask" button missing from the screen when you take a screenshot? I used to use it a lot, how do I ask (type in my message) regarding what's on the screen now? Double tap on the bottom of the screen doesn't trigger siri either...

I just tried this and if you mean that you take a screen shot and then ask once it’s being displayed, it works for me.

However, when I took a screen shot of it working it got confused and hung 😟 so I can’t prove it…

Maybe they removed it from iPhones 15 pro max.

I guess that's a workaround, for me this shows apps suggestions etc first. So I need to scroll down to the bottom section (Search in Apps) and then tap on Ask Siri. More effort than just having "Ask" button always there... I used this sometimes to summarise the stuff on the screen, or to compare stuff.
Just to clarify, did you speak to Siri? I'm trying to achieve this just with typing in the message, so I'm pulling the screen down in the middle to show this search bubble...

Just used screen record for the first time 😎. It's a swipe down from the top centre.

I've had access since early this morning.

a) its auto-correction is horrible.
b) it can't generate results in any type of .doc or .pdf
c) its functionality is ridiculously limited compared to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, etc.
d) results seem to scrape from popular sites over relevance to query
e) I asked it what its own top capabilities were. LOL - it referenced 3 popular HR sites and gave me a mini-breakdown ln a format expected in a job interview.
f) I asked it, just now, for a recipe. The damn thing (spoken request) will only tell me about recipes - it won't give me an actual recipe for what I specifically requested. I can't even tap on the result and click-through to a full recipe.

and.. I'm out. This is a gimmick, still, at this point. Let's hope its system integration is where it shines.

They still have a few months to bring it up to speed. And even if it still balks as in your a)-f) discoveries, Apple will not have to worry because 3rd-party assistants can’t compete with Siriai in the agentic department because they will not have access to on-device data for security reasons.
