Hmm, a lot of you are confused about the cable situation.

Our apple products in the past DID NOT come with a usb-c cable. NONE OF us just have this cable from our old apple products.

This should have came with a cable - and the people who are like “you were just saying you had so many,” are wrong.

I’ve done that 10 times on both of my new boxes and still can’t get it to work.
Hmm, worked fine for me. Setup was a breeze..

Might sound stupid, but Bluetooth was enabled on your phone right ??

what does the 128Gb model (that is being delivered to me Monday) have that the 64Gb doesn’t to enable thread support? Is it a physical chip?

Or maybe it was just two entirely different groups of people?
Im ambivalent about the switch to usb c. Seems smart in the long run. Right now, I have a bunch of lightning cables and not many usb c. I do have a couple. It would have been frustrating if I had to buy one because the $150 Apple TV did not include one.

I’ve done everything correctly. Also a hard reset. This is updating the Apple ID after the main setup.

I also don't have a USB-C to USB-C cable. However, I have a hard time believing people don't have a lot of USB-C to USB-A cables and old USB-A chargers lying around that they could be plugged into. So many tech gadgets over the last 8 years or so have used USB-C to USB-A, and even an old 5w iPhone charger would work with them. The ATV remote doesn't need or have much use for fast USB-C to USB-C charging - it's only a 400 MaH battery that charges within an hour even with 5w charging and that only needs to be charged 1-3 times a year.

You can always buy a lightning to usb-c adaptor on Amazon. Two adapters will cost less than $10. They work great. They come with a loop so you can attach it to the end your lightning cable so you can use it when you need it.

While I don't like it, I totally understand the argument for removing wall chargers from new devices, but charging cable, especially Apple cables, they are more consumable than durable.
I have had the included Apple Lightning charging cables last more than 5 years; haven't had a USB-C device long enough to know yet, but I do have an included USB-C charging cable from my 2018 iPad Pro that's still very much kicking after 4 years. It’s amazing what happens when you treat cables correctly — that is, avoid yanking on them, shutting them in doors/drawers, excessive/persistent strain, etc. That's how you should treat any cable regardless of the design.

Yes, Apple should provide better strain relief on their cables (the newer braided cables definitely help), but with proper treatment they're perfectly adequate.

My preferred ATV remote? The one that is strictly an option. With full control via Siri, I never lose a remote or have to charge it. And the cost of the ATV will go down if the remote is an option.

If only the power button on the remote could be programmed to turn my sound bar on/off via infrared, I’d have an excuse to upgrade my old HD Apple TV.
For my TV, I run the sound out of my TV through the Optical Cord. When my very old sound bar (6yrs) receives the signal from the TV turning on it also turns on. Then the Apple Remote uses the IR to control the sound volume on the sound bar.

Had the 2021 model. I bought this 2022 model yesterday to go with my 2018 Samsung Frame TV...and when I connected it the TV automatically detected the HDR10+ capability and the ATV is showing the HDR10+ enabled to definitely glad to have purchased it.

I don't have any.

Not sure why you would assume people have these, especially on an Apple-focused forum. Besides some recent iPad models, I am pretty sure there hasn't been any other iDevices that charge with a USB-C port.

There are probably a lot of people out there that only use a few Apple Products, such as just an iPhone, AW, and ATV, it wouldn't be strange if people like that do not have USB-C charging in their homes.

I have a huge amount of Apple products, but mostly old ones. The only two new devices I have is the iPhone 13 Mini and a Mac mini, and both do not have USB-C charging ports.

My new ATV4K3 just arrived yesterday, and I will eventually get a USB-C charger eventually, but as of right now, I have none.

I paired the original Siri Remote with my new ATV4K3 last night, so I guess I won't have to worry about USB-C charging for now.

Love my AppleTV 4k. But am I the only one who despises the Siri button on the side? It's bad design. If you're right handed and have the remote at your side, it is incredibly easy to accidentally hit that button when you pick up the remote. Then whatever you may be watching gets interrupted and you end up at the home screen when all you wanted to do was change the volume. I have larger hands, but still.

Me as well.

I always hit it by accident, but when I need to use it, which is often, it feels awkwardly placed.

Another issue I have with it is that I often hit one of the D-pad buttons when clicking and swiping.

Between those two issues and the fact that due to the removed sensors in the new design Siri Remote that it can't be used n some apps, I prefer the original design Siri Remote.

I purchased the new 128GB ATV4K3, it was delivered yesterday, and the first thing I did was to swap the new remote with the original Siri Remote.

The original has its own issues, but I enjoy using much more than the new one.

Apple should be providing cables with these "transition" products so people have one free cable+charger.

That said, I fully expect chargers and cables are gone from all electronics products in the near future. The the key goal of standardizing around USBC and reducing ewaste is to... reduce the amount of cables being made. If every product still comes with USBC cables then there is kind of no point in Apple being forced to transition to USBC. People who need cables/chargers will buy them separately, rather than producing a 100 million every year to include in each box.

Personally i´m happy with the A12 Apple TV 4K. It did the main service for purchase (play Fantasian) and now it´s a fantastic streaming device with easy to pair Airpods.

Any audiophiles on here?
One of the reasons I never upgraded from my Apple TV3 (or subscribed to Apple Music) was the lack of Hi-Res Lossless audio support, not even when connecting the Apple TV to an AV receiver over HDMI:
Apple Music Hi-Res Lossless music files are encoded at 192 kHz/24 bit, but even Apple stated that “Apple TV 4K currently doesn’t support Hi-Res Lossless (sample rates greater than 48 kHz)”.

Has anyone tried it, does the 48 kHz limit still apply with the new 2022 generation Apple TV 4k?

Interestingly, there currently is no way in the entire Apple ecosystem to listen to the Hi-Res Lossless music they are offering … in Hi-Res Lossless, not even with the $500 headphones.

Using all my equipment at 90% for music, and about 10% for movies, you can see: Being able to upgrade the entire music food chain to Hi-Res Lossless would be an enticing option!

You 192 guys are wild lol
I’m a mid tier pain in the ace audio/video snob. Uncompressed 24/48 wav or flac sounds terrific to me though, that’s my upper limit of my collection and I feed my music through a UAD Apollo unit. So that works fine for my stuff. I don’t know what I’d do either if I was into the real hi res so I feel for you.

Actually I’m in the same boat in another way. Sadly no one is focused on audio. iTunes movies still only offer DD+ on the upper end. Mostly just basic DD. Ugh. I have a small ish collection on iTunes and still buy Blu-ray/UHD. Just for the audio. There’s no comparison and it takes relatively little streaming bandwidth so I just wish they’d all get together and offer the DTS-HD my ears and system crave

I have a lot of Apple products and only got a USB-C to USB-C cable with my MacBook. Only people with iPad Pro or a relatively new iPad Air have these cables. I would say that most people in the ecosystem do not have these cables.

Apple products aren’t the only devices using usb c cables. Laptops use them. Nintendo switches use them. A family using a mix of apple and android devices should have at least one lying around as well. Even the Samsung T5 drive I purchased came with a usb c data cable (which can also be used for charging).

I really don’t think they are as rare as you are making them out to be.

It doesn't seem to pass through Dolby Atoms compared to the new Fire TV Cube 2nd/3rd gen that I have. Also doesn't pass through Dolby Vision without the HDMI splitter I have. Somewhat disappointed but will repurpose my old Apple TV 4k second gen to another room, no problem.
