I partially agree, but not 100%
I haven't played with Siri too much, on any device, so not really sure about interacting with a machine through voice. Maybe the younger generation will totally love this. But as far as the tv experience, I like the apps. But I think we have a paradigm shift that needs to be looked at.
To your point, our experience is one of channel surfing (I go back to the experience of knob turning). In that paradigm, the idea of having to jump in and out of apps seems all wrong and I would totally agree. But the tv itself was just an app that grabbed content from different airwaves (later cable signals) and presented in a simple format. Hulu and Netflix are examples of pretty much the same thing and allows you to surf. Let's call them the aggregator.
If Siri or some other app can agregate accross the aggregators then we really have something. The experience is a little different in that instead of mindlessly wandering around you have to give some instructions related to genre or mood or actor or whatever.
Lets watch it mature over a couple of years and I think we might indeed have something that really does change things.
Meh. Look, most people know what show they want to watch and jump to HBO Go or whatever and find it fast.
When Apple gets their **** together and can integrate with all services and can eliminate the cable box, I'll be impressed.
Even if the future is no cable and all streaming, Apple doesn't even allow all services such as Amazon. So, it's always gonna be half baked.
Having read most comments I still don't know what to do.
Do I buy one or not? Million dollar question. Do I need one.? Almost certainly not. I can watch Netflix from my TV directly and it has plenty apps. I have a PS4 and whatever services are not available on the TV I can get on the Play station.
Do I want one? Yes, why? I don't know....
can Anybody help?
You said it yourself. you don't need one. You have access to all the services you need. i think you are getting caught up in the "must have new apple device syndrome"Having read most comments I still don't know what to do.

even if they let you sign up via the app, Amazon would likely pull a Youtube and charge you more so they get their whatever out of it
I think this whole thing suffers from the fact that meta data related to content is in general a hell of a mess. For a long time, it's been possible to tie proper meta data to web pages, again seemingly it failed... Metas are either absent, irrelevant or simply there simply as a marketing clickbait (dump of words only semi-related to the page).
There needs a standard that is strictly adhered/enforced for all content producers of any kind (apps, photos, whetever) for producing extensive standardized metadata. If such a thing actually existed, Google would be POINTLESS (it's almost pointless now because web pages are in general a hot mess of jumbled data).
There should also be a standard to mine, built metas from content itself (if the content is changing or is itself an aggregation of other pages), a meta data construction framework... being meta about meta... Oh my ;-). Well, if that's how it got to be.
WELL stated and totally agree. Without the Metadata, creating a good aggregation app is close to impossible. I suspect that Apple's Siri is limited to Netflix, Itunes and HBO for this very reason.I think this whole thing suffers from the fact that meta data related to content is in general a hell of a mess. You just explained it in your response ... Apple wants a cut of what Amazon is selling so Amazon doesn't make the app. Apple is trying to make deals with cable companies, why doesn't Apple at least try to work with Amazon.
I imagine they will if they feel like it's worth it. Or Amazon will give in if they feel like they're really missing out on a market by not catering to Apple TV users (as they are already on iPhone for exactly that reason I'm sure). It will be interesting to see who caves first.
But Apple has fees for a reason, and Amazon just doesn't want to pay which is totally their right. That said, it's not really Apple's responsibility to bend over backwards to make the streaming content providers happy even though they have market incentive to do so, but it is the content provider's responsibility to make their content accessible on as many devices as possible since the customers are paying them for it. That's my take on it anyway.

You are probably (most likely) correct
No kidding. Horrible.
So do we have final word on whether "iTunes" includes searching our own (local) movies & TV shows? For instance, if a movie (not purchased from iTunes) is sitting on our local Mac's hard drive, is properly meta-tagged and is indexed by iTunes soTV can "see" it, will universal search and/or Siri find it when someone searches for that movie? Or is "iTunes" only stuff we can buy or rent or have purchased?
It's just iTunes content. I couldn't get my not purchased from iTunes content to pull up with Siri or search. Big disipointment. Makes Siri a lot less useful for me.
I mean she's not nearly as accurate on the watch as she is on the TV. For me, personally.I'm not sure if you mean it some other way, but Siri is already on the Apple Watch, she just doesn't respond with voice feedback. You simply hold down the Digital Crown to access her, or raise your wrist to the watch face and say "Hey Siri," followed by your query.
Not yet! I have a decent sized movie and TV library all tagged using metaZ. When I search all these TV shows and movies are completly overlooked, which is really annoying.
New Apple TV doesn't work with Remote iOS app - WTF!! Now I have to use stupid onscreen keyboard to enter App Store password etc
Why didn't Apple include Touch ID on the remote and also a dedicated gaming bundle with game controller?!
Dude. Relax. I agree that the remote app should work. Other than typing in a few things initially why would you need to? Just set it so you only enter the password once. Bundle? WFT. I ordered the steel series separately. Most people won't use a separate game controller as the new ATV remote works good as one for most games. Why did not not bother to think prior to making your post?
Why don't you suggest this to Apple TV Feedback? Apple might include that if enough new Apple TV users suggest it!
- Because I don't work for free.

Feedback is NOT work! No wonder kids like you want everything handed to them! How is a developer suppose to fix problems if no ever reports said problems?
