This is not true unless it’s changed as I contacted both Apple and AT&T multiple times to clarify this when series 3 cellular came out 2 years ago.

That's not what these say:

As I see the Watch becoming more of a central device, I’m predicting Apple makes the design wider to add more horizontal screen real estate. I rendered a mock-up.

That's an interesting mock-up!

But having used the S5 for a few days, the convenience of being able to tell the time or see my "rings" without making that deliberate motion with my wrist is something I don't want to live without ever again.
I know how you feel about that. Always on display (AOD) was one of my upgrade reason in addition to 32 gb storage. I never felt I was wearing a watch with my series 4 gold SS and prior series SBSS. I felt I was wearing a wrist computer. It did not feel right with a watch with black empty display while it was not tapped or my wrist raising most of the time like a mini black box strapped on your wrist. The series 4 and prior series watches are not a “normal” behavior watch. They are more a wrist computer with watch capability. I am glad AOD coming out. I just could not handle not the “abnormal” watch behavior on my series 4 anymore. The value of AOD Apple Watch is certainly higher than non AOD watch. AOD is the greatest feature which makes an Apple Watch is a truly complete watch ( like a regular digital watch which is AOD) with computer capabilities unlike series 4 and previous series which are a wrist computer with watch feature.

My most wanted feature for S6+ would be standard lugs. Unfortunately there's zero chance of that happening. For the money they charge for straps they could at least match the connector to the watch to avoid monstrosities like this:

wearing this exact band now and it doesn't have that issue. must be just the graphic designer

I went from a S3 to an S5 and I can honestly say that was a more significant transition than the migration from my iPhone X to the Pro Max.

Once you get to your mid-40s, even if you have 20/20 vision you can’t really read much on the watch when you don’t have your reading glasses on, so it’s mostly useful for voice control, telling the time, dictation, taking the odd call, and notifications - things which don’t need a lot of space. I see a circular model being very popular.

Speak for yourself! I wear no glasses and my arms are still long enough that I can read my watch, iPhone, and iPad without issue! :)

So, since emergency calling seems to work with the cellular watch even without a data plan - does that include the notification of emergency contact? Probably not I presume?

Fall detection works, though, right? But you need to have the iPhone at least in reach?

This is like the only feature for what I'd want celullar and if it's not working properly, I could save that extra money

Hardly any of it consider as distinct changes and only lead to further confusion for the customer.

Cars become new "models" (new year, new model) all the time without significant feature or design changes - or any for that matter - and no one seems to care. It's more a phenomenon of people buying tech and I suspect it's because they need to feel like they always have the latest and bestest ... whether for themselves or to show off...

(I seriously don't get that constant urge from people needing to upgrade something EVERY year....coming from a S0, S2, or even S3 is a significant update)

Personally I disagree that there’s no compelling reason to upgrade from the 4... if the always on display was the ONLY new feature I would upgraded in a heartbeat! It’s the one thing about Apple Watch that has always driven me mad. I have a 4 and I can’t WAIT to upgrade! (waiting for the Nike versions).
I upgraded from the non-Nike Series 4 to the Series 5 and like the 5, but the battery seems to discharge faster and the watch seems to charge SLOWER. Anyone else? Any tips on how to recharge faster?

I am of the same mind. But is there anyone here who has a series 4 and has bought a series 5 and recommends their upgrade?
Too soon to tell.

I thought the Titanium models came with an extra sport fabric band. Mine came with an extra rubber band.. bleh..

I picked up my S5 the morning of September 20 (replacing an S0). The first couple days I was concerned about the battery life but it definitely has improved for whatever reason; I would love to know what is happening here. Last two days, 06:00-22:00, I have finished above 50% with moderate usage.

There are some things that need to download to the watch over time, and likely some other internal housekeeping, together those can make it use power more quickly for the first day or two.

The best explanation I've heard suggested is that there are a lot of apps that want to do background processing, and at first the OS allows this, but then as it figures out what you use and what you don't, it tones down the background use for apps you don't use as much (since there's less of a need for them to immediately have the latest info when they start up). This last may apply more to the phone than the watch, but I suspect there's similar optimizing going on on the watch.

Thankfully the new faces are also compatible with the Series 4. One of my favorite things about this refresh cycle is the Nike Hybrid watch face which allows me to use the neat corner complications AND put a digital display clock prominently in the center of the watch.

Hey, I love that Nike Hybrid face, but Im not seeing it as available on my Nike 40mm AW4. Am Im missing something obvious?

I have the same watch so it's not a hardware thing. Have you updated the watchOS? I had to both upgrade my phone to iOS 13 then update the watch after.

Yeah, I'm on Watch OS6 and iOS 13.1 (beta). Im presuming it's a named watch face and not a customised version of a standard one?

I didn't hate the blank display. It took me back to my first digital watch from the late 1970s, which had an LED display. To see the time (or date), you had to press a button on the side. The shiny black crystal was also useful for me to be able to secretly keep an eye on a minor junior high crush while we were sitting in class.

But it is inarguably more convenient to be able to see the time without moving your wrist (no matter how slightly) to a particular position. I suspect the days of blank watch faces are once again moving behind us.

Yesterday's battery life wasn't too bad today, but I noticed that it was not so good today. I turned off background app refresh, and put it back on the charger. Much better now! I have the S5 aluminium 44 mm gold and I do love it. I came from a Fitbit Charge 3 and no Apple Watch.

One thing some may find useful (if you didn't already know):

I turned off the "screen wake on wrist raise" feature for my S5. I found that this "unlocks" the screen far too often and probably wastes battery life. I would randomly look down at my watch and there would be an email or social media notification open on my screen. I finally figured out it was because the watch was always sensing for the "wrist raise" feature and thus it would be unlocked and the notifications would come in and be open and visible.

I don't see a need for the screen to awaken on wrist raise because the S5 has the AOD. So if I actually need to use my watch and open an email or notification, I'm going to be tapping on the screen anyways. Plus I don't like things randomly being "open" on my watch. This drove me insane for the past few days so I wanted to share with everyone.

Still having battery issues. Using Infograph watch face I cannot even come close to making it through a day. I had some complications that I tried to turn off (like Noise) but not sure this helped. I went back to Siri Watch Face and had better battery, but it died at about 15 hours. My series 3 never once died during a normal day. Almost at a point where I wonder if I need to return the watch for a new one.

Curious if anyone else is having issues with certain watch faces/complications draining the battery.

Did you try turning the watch completely off and back on? That's when things turned around for me.

I just did a reset (holding both buttons down) to see if that helped. Would turning it off and on be any better?
